Hi everyone,

Have been on the ttc thread for about 7 months now - a few people have suggested using Persona, however, it is quite expensive.

Thought i would start this thread to see if anyone has finished with their and wouls want it to go to a new home - I promise it will be put to good use.

Ordered one already - This is great.
Does anyone know when you can start using them? will i have to wait until next a/f?

niknik · 29/07/2003 15:48

Jemma

How many days are you into your period if less than 6 when you get your machine then you may be able to just press you m button until you get to the right number of your cycle day.
I have done that before when I came on when I was away for the weekend and didn't have my machine with me. It worked fine I just kept my finger down on the button until the right day for me. As long as you do a test on day 6

Jemma7 · 29/07/2003 15:50

Well i'm on day 5 today so if it arrive's tomorrow i may be in luck! Fingers crossed - couldn't face another wasted month.
God i sound like a depressed mad woman.

Jemma,
Buy your sticks, two packs (16 in all) in readiness, just in case. I don't think you have to do your tests in the morning. I always do for convienience but reading some of the threads your LH is higher later on in the day so I am thinking of switching my time to lunch/afternoons, cos you do get a a 6 hour window to do the test (I think).
I've got my fingers crossed for you that it will arrive tomorrow

quackers · 29/07/2003 16:18

Ooh, hope it arrives tommorow!! You could always just do the tests anyway using persona sticks and wait for the blue lines, does the same thing as an OPK.Good luck!

Jemma7 · 29/07/2003 16:38

Haven't got any persona sticks though Quackers - waiting for the kit for arrive from Boe so i can see exactly what is in it and what i need to buy.
Hopefully OPK will arrive tomorrow as last time i ordered tests from that website they arrived the next day.
Oh i'm soooo eager, even bought 2 pg tests whilst i was surfing - How Sad.
There used to be days where i would surf the net for clothes, shoes and house accessories now it's just pregnancy tests & OV kits!

OP posts:
quackers · 29/07/2003 18:39

Sad aren't we!!! That's good, yes I remeber you got those quickly! The OPK's are much later than persona ie, you won't start testing until day 11 for a 28 day cycle, day 12 for a 29 day cycle and so on, so you still have lots of time to get your OPK!!! So don't worry if it doesn't come for a couple of days or so yet. When you get the blue lines - go for it!! You'll ov in the next 24-36 hours!! You sound so excited!! We were only saying last night how we got really into doing it and enjoyed it and then nothing until week 12!! Hope I still feel up for it then!!

hewlettsdaughter · 29/07/2003 18:44

Quackers and LucieB - thanks for info re blue lines and 'o' sign. Splash and Jemma7 - the Persona phone no. for the UK is 0845 608 6081. They also have a website, here .

quackers · 30/07/2003 08:58

No probs HD, you were up early!!!!

Jemma7 · 30/07/2003 08:58

Thanks HD - will have a look at that.
Quackers, Postman decided to try and deliver my OPK at 6.13 this morning - does he really expect people to be awake at that time?
Needless to say it is at the post office and i will have to collect it later.

Quick question - my cycles are not regular so how will i know what day to start testing on?

OP posts:
Boe · 30/07/2003 09:03

Jemma - stuck it in post yesterday so you should get it today or tomorrow hopefully.

Good Luck.

BigBird · 30/07/2003 09:31

Jemma7...my cycles vary too from 26-29 days so I went by the shortest cycle. Last month I started on day 9 and got a line on day 11. This month I started yesterday (day 10).

Jemma7 · 30/07/2003 09:31

Thanks Boe - been having a quick look at the website - am i right in thinking that a green day is no good and the red days are the best?
Thick i know but never done this before.

OP posts:
quackers · 30/07/2003 09:47

Persona I presume you mean? Yes you do the opposite, you BD on the red days, you'll get many in the first month and by the third you'll probably only get 6-8. I got red days from day 6-15. But I narrowed this down to BD'g from day 10 for me. Everyones different. Do you feel ov? Get mucus? That helps to narrow it down a bit too!!

Boe · 30/07/2003 09:48

Sorry - Jemma is so long since have used it - I presume you are trying to get pregnant.

I always thought red days were bad - but then I was using it as a form of contraception - maybe one of the othr mumsnetters would be more help on this!!

Do you have to do all this stuff when you are trying to get pregnant - I just left it all to chance - sorry to sound stupid but I would like to be pregnant again at sometime in the next 2-3 years and advice would be handy.

splash · 30/07/2003 09:50

hi bigbird, i used another stick this morning and there is barely a line, i think things must have happened on sunday making that dy10, thats early if thats right. will keep using the rest of the sticks just in case. how are you getting on,

Boe · 30/07/2003 09:51

Sorry Jemma re-read thread and rest of your message at the bottom - did not realise that you had been ttc for 7 months. I have not really read any of the ttc threads because of the state of my life at the moment and a baby would not be a good thing but I do hope it works out for you and the persona helps.

niknik · 30/07/2003 10:17

Jemma I pleased you have got your Persona, are you going to try to use it today?
I get my sticks to go with at Boots £9.99 per box. I'm sure that you will be able to press the m button until it is on 6. A yellow light will then show which means you need to do the test.

Jemma7 · 30/07/2003 10:26

Niknik, Postman tried to deliver Clearblue OPK this morning but i wasn't up so he has sent it back to the post office - i will be collecting it tomorrow. Boe has sent me her Persona which i should get today or tomorrow.
I'm on day 6 now so wont be able to use persona but Quackers said that you can start to use the Clearblue OPK's much later into cycle.
Anyway, think DP is going to be happy this month, if i can't start using Persona or OPK until next a/f will just have to make sure we are at it at every chance - at least it will only be for 1 month.
What's happening with your life Boe - wanna talk about it?

OP posts:
Jemma7 · 30/07/2003 10:30

Didn't meant to ignore u then Quack - can't say i've really noticed about the mucas etc before.
I know we have been ttc for 7 months but that has just really been trying as much as possible not really looking into what different things mean..............
How do i find out about increased mucas?
I don't usually feel OV but i did have a 1 days bleed last cycle - a/f did arrive so not really sure what this meant.

OP posts:
BigBird · 30/07/2003 10:37

Splash, I'd say you are right. At least you bd'd anyhow! Would you not hold on to the sticks till next month and then start on day 9 ? They are so expensive. I bought the clearblue 7 pack and it's lasted me 2 months so not too pricey! I had a faint line yesterday and haven't tried today yet. Can you notice CM also ? that might help you out. Between opk's, cm and temping I'm pretty well covered!

BigBird · 30/07/2003 10:42

Jemma7 - you can read about mucous (among other things ttc related) on the Fertility Friend Handbook

I am taking starflower oil capsules this month to increase it. Not sure if it's worked. You only take it from day 1 to ov though. Or you can try Robitussin cough medicine for chesty coughs again from day 1 to ov. That only works for some people and didn't for me.

quackers · 30/07/2003 11:17

That website of bigbird's is great Jems for advise on mucus etc.. I was actually worried I didn't see any last month and thought - well that's it then, but it wasn't I think if you don't see any you have to er... feel!! Urrgh!! Anyway chuck, you ahve had so much good advice here! It's great isn't it! I know you;re a little irregular - is that right? The instructions will tell you EXACTLY when to start testing. Even for an irregular cycle. Boe, big hugs, hope you're ok?? Hey Big bird!! How's you?

Jemma7 · 30/07/2003 11:27

Yeah i have had loads of great advise on here quackers.

I just can't wait for the little bun to be in the oven................it seems to have taken sooooo long.

I've decided not to tell DP about the OPK's and Persona - not trying to be decievng but i hate getting his hopes up every months for what then turns out to be no reason.
Would love to be able to tell him that he is going to be a daddy and the best one at that.

Ahh bless - i'm so excited.

OP posts:
quackers · 30/07/2003 11:42

Oh bless you - you sound lovely!! I wouldn't tell hime either to be honest. He'll also feel under pressure to perform!! You know what men are like. YOu gently 'persuading' some action will achieve a better result and you'll enjoy it more! I only told my dh cos he ssaw persona sticks in my drawer!! Thought I was trying to stop us having a bubba!!! It's exciting - you'll give yourself the best chanceof conceiving - don't worry if it takes a while. Only 25% get it first month but 90% get pg in 6!! You've got a good chance though cos you'll know when you're ov'g!!
