codswallop · 17/10/2004 07:42

the hotels are all booked up for that weekend.

tigermoth · 17/10/2004 08:02

can I just ask, as I won some Alton Towers tickets in the spring, what's the cheapest way of getting to Alton Towers from London? 1 adult and two children? Our car's gearbox needs some attention and I suspect it is not fit for motorway driving at the moment. Do any coaches go up that way?

Thanks Sue W. I have just checked Virgin Trains for Stafford. Did not realise Derby is close as well.

Total longshot of a request here. Is anyone driving up to Alton Towers on the 28/29/30/ October from anywhere in London? If you have three spare seats for me and two grateful sons, I will share petrol costs, feed you and say endless thank yous....

hey tigermoth, you can get virgin train from london euston to stafford and bus to alton towers said for £35 i think it is. Me and dp are doing this. Theres only one though, which leaves early in the morning and you have to leave about 5 i think it is. I would drive up but have never driven on motorways before and only passed my test in aug so will be a nervous wreck.

unicorn - I'm sure the youth hostel and your kids would get on just fine! As for closing up time, I think you have to be in by 11pm, but I'd ask to be sure. Hth.

compsmanager · 17/10/2004 15:44

I am sooooo sorry!! I seem to have mixed up some emails!! don't know How that happened? Can only appogogise, lack of sleep has made me make a complete hash of things!!
The Prize is not Alton Towers Maternity Wear!! (what a frightening concept!!)
But as it says on homepage, Alton Towers Fireworks and Spooktacular On Ice Family Tickets.
You will be allowed to choose which day you want to go.
Certain rides will be open until 9pm.

Sorry again for the BIG mix up. Will resend you email. (correct one this time

tammybear · 17/10/2004 15:46

pheww thank goodness, was thinking I would have to get pregnant again!!!

tiptop, that Yh looks good (and nice price!).. but my kids are too young

Any other accomodation suggestions?

tammybear · 17/10/2004 16:31

Ive been looking round, there are hotels or b&bs nearby, but most are full, or the expensive en suites are left, unless you can get there by car and drive about 20 miles to get to Alton Towers

krocket · 17/10/2004 16:48

thank you! very excited

roisin · 17/10/2004 18:29

Unicorn - we stayed at a Travellodge on the M6: this one - as motorway services go, it's a nice one: set back from Mway in trees, big lake with path road, waterbirds, children's swingpark, etc. About half an hour to Alton Towers, I think - maybe 40 mins.

There is a nearer Travel Lodge at Uttoxeter.

tammybear · 17/10/2004 18:32

uttoxeter is full on the 29th. i was told that the nearest one from there is newcastle on lyme or something like that

unicorn - There are family rooms available at Ilam Hall youth hostel and it's okay to have under 3s. This is further away from Alton Towers, though. Also, you have to be a member of the yha, so this cost has to be added on to the accommodation. I have a relative who lives in Alton. If you have any specific questions, I can ring her and ask for you. Oh, and I rang my sister and left an answerphone message asking which B&B she used to stay in. I can ring her again for you. Hth.

unicorn · 18/10/2004 15:33
