woodpops · 16/10/2004 21:23

You'll all have a fab time. We loved it yesterday. The Tweenies show was fab. Ug Land is currently closed for redevelopment ready for next year.

codswallop · 16/10/2004 21:24

krocket · 16/10/2004 21:25

tammybear · 16/10/2004 21:25

i did ring up alton towers earlier to ask when the firework displays are, and they didnt say anything has been cancelled. he also said the family ticket gives you access to all the rides during the day. hope so, and im not passing on false info

Stay at the splash landings hotel codswallop. We popped in there yesterday. It looks great. There is also a winter offer on at the mo. Sunday to Thurday adults are £50 a night diner bed and breakfast and kids (4-11) are £35. I didn't think that was bad.

tammybear · 16/10/2004 21:32

do u think we're allowed to chose what day to go? i can only go on sunday 31st

OP posts:

Yeah, a champagne reception. We thought it was something different. Some of the rides are open all year round for hotel guests.

The splash landings pool looked better than Center Parcs.

tammybear · 16/10/2004 21:44

oh i didnt know some of the rides were still open, which ones?

OP posts:
unicorn · 16/10/2004 21:44

but why would you want to stay in a hotel there if the park isn't open?

Hopefully we will all get to find out what we have won... soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ooooh i'm so jealous, i haven't beenm to Alton Towers since i was at school.

Must remember to check the comps more often.

The display is still being advertised on t.v so i would assume it is still on.

woodpops · 16/10/2004 21:55

The spooktacular ice show was deffinately on yesterday. Cause the entrance to it was by old macdonalds farm. We were on the tractor ride (very exciting) as a crowd of people went in. Thought ds and dd would be a bit oung for it.

Like I said earlier there were big vans fencing areas off around the lake where the fireworks are normally set off from. And a load of bloke laying cabling out.

tammybear · 16/10/2004 21:56

good good, just wish mumsnet would hurry up and give me the details!! pretty please!

Congratulations to all the winners! We've stayed in the area a number of times and have stayed at Youth Hostels. The nearest one to Alton Towers is Dimmingsdale, 2 miles away. When we stayed about 5 years ago, it was very basic but the kids loved it. If you think it's worth a look, try www.yha.org.uk. Tel: 0870 770 5794. I don't know if Dimmingsdale is open all year round. I'd say it's fine for the family that loves camping trips, but not for those who like a bit of comfort. We make a lot of use of our membership. It might be expensive if this would be your one and only hostel visit, though I should mention that you can get discounts in some shops ie Millets using your yha card. Hth.

unicorn · 16/10/2004 23:53

thanks tiptop.. a very interesting idea..

I just wonder if my manic kids could withstand a YH.. or rather the YH could withstand them!!

btw.. how late can you arrive back at a YH?.. I imagine this extravaganza (if it happens) may be lateish.
