What are you NOT giving up for climate change?

As in, something you know would be beneficial and you actively refuse to do it.

I refuse to take 4 minute showers. My showers last 15-20 minutes, 30 if I've had a really bad day. A nice hot shower relaxes me and I can't abide the thought of feeling stressed in there trying to wash before the clock runs out.

To balance this out so that you don't all think I'm a terrible person, I was vegan for 10 years 🙈

Just wondering what others are clinging on to?

I won’t give up my car. I drive to work because it’s 20 minutes but would be an hour on a bus plus a 20 minute walk from, then back to, the bus station in the town I work in. No trains. I haven’t flown abroad since 2016 though & never flew much before anyway.
We have a water meter so very quick showers, I would love a lengthy soak in a deep bath.

LovingLivingLife · 02/08/2023 23:10

Travelling
I love to see the world, experience new places, new cultures and meet people from different walks of life. It's one of my biggest pleasures in life and I would be very reluctant to give it up.

Nothing, but I don’t drive and I’m child free by choice so I don’t feel especially guilty.

MomentOnTheLips · 02/08/2023 23:13

Tbh I don't do anything that would cause me much inconvenience. But I've got no kids so that's already a much bigger impact than pretty much anything else I could do.

tescocreditcard · 02/08/2023 23:14

Nothing. It's too late now anyway.

caringcarer · 02/08/2023 23:20

I happily recycle. I buy local produce whenever I can. I don't fly much as we travel on the ferry so we can take the car. However I won't give up my car, or eating meat.

TaraRhu · 02/08/2023 23:25

Disposable nappies.

crackofdoom · 02/08/2023 23:29

Cheese. Got about halfway to being vegan, and ground to a halt at cheese.

Ineedwinenow · 02/08/2023 23:32

My car, we live rurally without any suitable reliable public transport! We get one bus every hour during the daytime ( which goes in the opposite direction to amenities) and it stops at 6pm! So as much as i should give it up for the planet, I can’t until public transportation has made it to the sticks!

On the plus side we don’t have kids and part of my job is conservation and ecology so I do give back in other ways!

Ineedwinenow · 02/08/2023 23:33

Oh and I wouldn’t be Vegan, I couldn’t give up my electonics! 😆

olivehaters · 02/08/2023 23:33

Holidays. Live for them, I was born and brought up in a hot country and the weather in the UK gets me down. Need to feel the heat in my bones.

SoRad · 02/08/2023 23:36

I’m not going to murder my children

BarelyLiterate · 02/08/2023 23:36

Meat. Far too enjoyable to stop eating the stuff.

My petrol car, at least until the charging infrastructure to support electric cars is fit for purpose, which is still many years away.

My foreign holidays. Flying is wonderful, particularly in Business Class.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 02/08/2023 23:37

My car. Public transport is shocking, expensive, unreliable and takes an age to get anywhere except the centre of the nearest city. Heaven forbid you want to go anywhere else. If we actually had a decent public transport network I'd happily consider it.

I rarely travel abroad these days but I am still craving a holiday abroad. It's been years and I used to love travelling.

SantiagoSky · 02/08/2023 23:39

Drinking coffee

pastypirate · 02/08/2023 23:41

Holidays abroad. I haven't been since 2017. I'm going later this year though.

My car. I didn't drive until I was 30 so I reckon I've clocked up some credit.

I'm not taking 2 minute showers ffs.

MomentOnTheLips · 02/08/2023 23:42

Me with my pickup truck.... 😐

Starlightstarbright2 · 02/08/2023 23:43

Literally nothing unless enforced by law . I miss plastic straws to the point I don’t buy McDonald’s milkshake - don’t have a dishwasher so reusable straws aren’t really an option .
I do recycle .. even take empty meds packets to Superdrug .
I don’t believe I make that much of a difference compared to businesseses

crackofdoom · 02/08/2023 23:47

Nobody has to give up holidays abroad, just (preferably) flying!

Drinking coffee

Oh god, I'm an addict. What's wrong with coffee?

not giving up anything.

Businessflake · 03/08/2023 00:22

Travelling business or first class.

My SUV.

VeridicalVagabond · 03/08/2023 00:22

I'm with you with the weird military showers Mumsnet is obsessed with. If I'm washing my hair I need 15 minutes minimum, and honestly I like spending time just standing there soaking in the warmth with my eyes closed and relaxing. I'll keep my long soothing showers forever.

heartofglass23 · 03/08/2023 00:42

Meat
Car
Occasional flights
Nappies
Having a warm house in winter
Tumble dryer
Oven cooking

Codlingmoths · 03/08/2023 00:45

I have long showers I admit. I think of this with regards to the house planning I’m doing - for renovate/buy/ knock down rebuild in about 5 years. Both in the use of new materials and the sustainability of the design worry me- we can use recycled bricks , and ‘low carbon concrete’ (which would just be better than regular concrete, not good) and then of the design- efficiency vs living impact.
