Climate Change

What are you NOT giving up for climate change?

As in, something you know would be beneficial and you actively refuse to do it.

I refuse to take 4 minute showers. My showers last 15-20 minutes, 30 if I've had a really bad day. A nice hot shower relaxes me and I can't abide the thought of feeling stressed in there trying to wash before the clock runs out.

To balance this out so that you don't all think I'm a terrible person, I was vegan for 10 years 🙈

Just wondering what others are clinging on to?

But you saying why are you all on here saying why you’re killing the world- most people are listing one thing, and for all you know in every other aspect of their lives they are fighting to be as environmentally conscious as possible. I do do 4 minute showers and use soap instead of shower gel and use hair soap too, i don’t use sprays, I recycle, have solar panels and a pellet burner, watch electricity where I can, try not to use single use packaging and walk where I can (crazy difficult as we’re rural) but I have kids, the car, eat meat and because I live in Ireland and our house isn’t super warm and the weather is crap, have to sometimes use the tumble dryer and hair dryer too much. To all those saying you can’t change the trajectory, when we all stopped flying over Covid they found the ozone layer improved somewhat so I do think it’s better we try

There are way more posts, and way way more posts complaining about the weather, and the most active thread on climate change is people bleating about how reluctant they are to make any changes.

With attitudes like that we really are fucked.

Car. We are all disabled so it's a lifeline for us.

However, we don't fly abroad.
One of us is almost vegan,
One almost vegetarian,
Sadly the other one makes up for that.
We are not big consumers of stuff other than yarn.

We don't use a lot of heat as the flat is warm.

If we all made changes , the easy wins for us, and reduced what we can't/don't want to give up it would help.

Eg I could drive less and more efficiently, stop at shops on the way, walk when I am well etc.

Daftasabroom · 30/08/2023 07:22

@BlackeyedSusan no one is suggesting you give up your car.

@TheBeesKnee I think about how awful this thread is at least once a day. I wonder at what stage you and people like you will finally understand the danger we are all in and the damage we are doing to the lives of our children.
