I was dumbstruck by the prezzies my hubby's aunt and uncle got us - the massive packet, among other stuff, included a pair of boxers and socks for him and a pack of cheapy knickers and tights for me!! They're nice people but they've only met me twice (including on my wedding day)! And DH prob only talks to them once a year! I don't even wear tights! And I get my underwear from figleaves and becheeky thank you! Very random

Also, DS got some red long-johns with a hearts pattern and a top with 'mummy's sweetheart' in pink on it. We've no idea who that's from as it was unsigned. Well. I would like no.2 to be a girl but we've got long to go till no.2 yet!

I know socks are prob the no.1 I wish I never got THAT present but I don't remember EVER getting knicks even from my mum! Haven't bothered my arse to even check whether they're the right size

What was the weirdest thing you got?

This year I got a very cool prezy, a Priscilla queen of the desert mug with pink PQOD ping pong ball inside.I love it.Hurra!

My father used to come in pissed when we were kids on xmas eve and leave us house bricks/kipper ties (It was the 70s) and lumps of coal to unwrap in the morning mixed in with what santa brought us.
Of this lovely old famly tradition, whats left of it is a Daniel O'Donnell CD that has not been taken out of the Cellophane wrapper to be played, ever.
It has been given by my father to members of my famly or friends every year to be returned the next year to him, freshly gift wrapped.
This has been going on for a number of years now.Its the gift that he keeps on giveing and we all keep returning.

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 26/12/2009 01:50

wow to the mug
now that's an idea, maybe I should return the favour to auntie-in-law? I won't send her the very same knickers (bit boring) but I might just look for a pair of vintage stripy pink frilly pants knee-length. With a drawstring!
Might take some looking, tho

My MIL gave me a book titled 'Doggie Treats - healthy homemade treats, seasoned with affection'.
Now I love my dog and I do genuinely enjoy baking but I rarely find the time for 'normal' baking these days as I have a toddler, am 31w pg and am starting a new business.

CremeDeMenthe · 26/12/2009 08:45

DS2 (7) received a packet of blutack from Santa...

which was later declared to be the best present ever

bran · 26/12/2009 08:51

My MIL gave me costume jewelry - from Readers' Digest. Think of the trashiest fake diamonds you've ever seen, this is uglier. I suspect she got it free with a subscription.

DS (5 yrs) took a shine to it and insisted on wearing it to dinner. MIL was , I'm not sure whether it was because I wasn't cherishing the gift enough or because wearing it would turn DS gay.

bran · 26/12/2009 09:00

And poor old DS got a big book of bible readings from MIL (from Readers' Digest again), one for each day of the year. He's five ffs. He was so disappointed.

sockmonkey · 26/12/2009 09:01

Creme - My DNephew asked for blu-tac one year. It's great stuff.

CremeDeMenthe · 26/12/2009 09:03

DH got me a Soccer AM Soccerette t-shirt.I suppose I should be flattered, but as I am neither 19 nor blonde nor a football suppporter it was a bit random.

Colonelcupcake · 26/12/2009 10:50

TheArmadillo · 26/12/2009 10:53

ds asked for wrapping paper adn gaffer tape from FC - he got both adn was thrilled.

He also got to the last present in his stocking and was praying it was envelopes. Luckily we know him well enough and it was

Jellymummy · 26/12/2009 11:02

A packet of 35 plastic plates!

oldraver · 26/12/2009 11:03

DS would of loved red heart long johns. Cant think of anything random I received but I bought DS2 a retro Crayola calculator.... he had wnated one for ages

TrinityReindeer · 26/12/2009 11:05

A vodka flavoured lolly with an edible scorpion inside it

and he will expect me to eat it

MrsBlackbeard · 26/12/2009 15:07

My DD just came over to ask what I was laughing at,so far its blue tack, a small boy wearing spangly earings with his granmother scowling at dinner table and giftwraped plastc plates.

Flame · 26/12/2009 15:09

MrsB - I have a priscilla ping pong ball too

BananaPudding · 26/12/2009 15:14

I think the axe given to GentleOtter by her DH has got to be the most random and strange gift I have heard about this year!

Do you think he's tryng to tell her something?

humptynumpty · 26/12/2009 15:15

I got a fridge magnet with a picture of the bayeux (sp?) tapestry on it. wtf???

MayorNaze · 26/12/2009 15:18

my MIL got me some garden twine. and i LOVE it (is in a poncey tin )!!

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 26/12/2009 18:54

lol at blue tac
actually when I used to work in a school all kids there were mad on blue tac - forever peeling it off walls and posters. Of course as a highly poisonous item it was forbidden fruit. Which is why they were in a perpetual hunt for it

I got a 'wake up naturally' bedside light/alarm.

I mean seriously...I have a 7 week old, like I need a frigging alarm clock...

WhoSleptInMyPorridgeAndBrokeIt · 26/12/2009 19:14

errr--- how is an alarm waking naturally???

One other thing I got was a filigree silver heart pendant, from DH. The randomness of it is that it's exactly the same he gave me last year only last year he got me one bc he just liked it, and this year he thought it was a locket and I could put DS's picture in it. This year it also came with matching earrings I'm not gonna tell him tho coz he meant well

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours · 26/12/2009 19:16

I got a box of elephent poo.

It does come with some rose seeds and it was only a small box (not a full helping ), so it was a rather nice present, but for a moment is was beginning to wonder what I had done to piss DH off!

Theresalwaysroomforpudding · 26/12/2009 19:19

It's a light and an alarm. It wakes you by slowly getting lighter and lighter so make your body 'wakes up naturally' rather than a radio or a buzzer.

I'll let you know if it works...sometime in 2012.

minervaitalica · 26/12/2009 19:28

DD (18 months) got a hiking/camping towel and an eco-torch from GPs.

They give her lovely pressies normally so I really do not mind - but it was definitely random...
