Curse the sadists that work at Playmobil...

or my alternative title, "why did none of you warn me????"

...when i carefully choose DS1 the Playmobil Knights tower. We open the box this am and my heart sinks as I realise I am staring at about 1000 teeny tiny pieces. None of which are in the same plastic bags relating to the corresponding instruction number... 2 1/2 hours later, with cuts all over my fingers, I'm still sticking plastic flames into plastic flame holders and attaching them with microscopic black dots to plastic walls. Bless my poor DS, who patiently played with only the knights for what seemed like an eternity, whilst watching me muttering curses and running out of the room sporadically shouting "just got to turn the roasties darling, be back in a minute to build the portcullis (sp?)".

Anyone else heart sink when they opened their LO's presents, as they naively hadn't calculcated into their plans how much time the toy would take to build?

do a search! lots of despairing people warning everyone to start days in advance with playmobil or rose cottag over the last few days. then they resort to alcohol...you need an older cousin. can you borrow one over the holidays?

lilymolly · 25/12/2009 19:52

LOL My dp took about an hour to build playmobile stables whilst dd played trashed it 5 minutes later

cue dp storming off in a huff announcing "he was going to sit his arse on the setee"

All we got to pay £60 for the pleasure!

And we have realised that the teeny tiny little pieces are just an accident waiting to happen when ds (9months) swallows them

Roll on January when she has 2 more playmobil kits to play with

we're avoiding playmobil in this house...i can't handle losing small bits!

smallorange · 25/12/2009 20:07

We were still constructing ours at 11.30pm on Christmas eve.

Friend has knight's castle- she actually rang me to warn about the 'sodding shields'

swanriver · 25/12/2009 20:08

Dh spent four hours this morning building the hospital for a 7 year old - still not old enough to really do it herself..she did help though
We knew we had to build it - hadn't factored the four hours though.., but she was very very crestfallen when she opened the box and realized she couldn't play with it straightaway...
Had to explain that some people liked constructing things..
She is loving playing with it now though

AnAngelWithin · 25/12/2009 20:15

DON'T....GET....ME...STARTED......

I bought a set for dd2 last christmas. Had to put all the sodding individual flower heads on each stem, and swore so much and vowed never to buy any again....so this year I didn't...but she has had THREE big set given to her today by other people

IlanaK · 25/12/2009 20:16

We gave ds1 and ds2 two different playmobil pirate ships. It did take most of the afternoon to put them together, but then the kids are playmobil veterans and patiently waited!

MollieO · 25/12/2009 20:43

Have done the police boat and rib and have just started the police headquarters. Ds has been quite happy to wait, fortunately.

whoopstheregoesmymerkin · 25/12/2009 20:53

I just got ds a stocking filler teeny cops and robber kit that you would think would only contain a cop and a robber and a gun or something.
Oh no. Shed loads of miniscule money, ridiculously small handcuffs etc etc.
No way are we getting any more...

MmeherewegoawassailLindt · 25/12/2009 21:24

I posted about Playmobile several times in the run up to Christmas. I HATE the stuff and wont have it in the house. Stuff of the devil.

DS got a Scalectrix set today, and it was put together in no time.

mamasmissionimpossible · 25/12/2009 21:40

We bought the playmobil recycle truck for ds. Seemed quite easy to assemble, and no small parts for dd to swallow. Perhaps we were lucky with our playmobil choice.

i will direct dp to this thread tomorrow for moral support for building the police headquarters, me thinks he will need it .......

JonahB · 25/12/2009 22:36

Lol at the "sodding shields" - i can empathise!!! Glad it isn't just me.
I really like the playmobil stuff, however when when i looked into the bags containing more teeny tiny stuff (not opened yet), i can feel the palpaltations starting already. It already stresses me when i lose half the pirate ship booty. I'm not an ideal PM mum, am i?

The church took us 2 soddin hours to put together and we still have the flowers to do(or maybe not)

Also spent an hour this morning putting teeny weeny stickers onto Sylvanian Family acessories and folding microscopic gift boxes and books. And still more to do..

CardyMow · 25/12/2009 23:40

RAA!! ruddy PM dinosaurs!! Can anyone with experience putting together the (extremely complicated) 'moss type stuff' for the side of the small volcano with the 'long neck' (god only nows what the proper name is, DS2 loves land before time, hence 'long neck'). PLEASE HELP!! I've spent 2 hrs trying to melt it with my lighter put it together, as has my new DP AND my 11 yo DD. That's 6 hrs between 3 of us and still the f'ing moss is in bits. . done all the rest, even the big volcano with 'sarah and her daddy' (triceratops's), but this moss, well, the instructions look like an M C Esher drawing.....
