ds is 4 and this year really gets Christmas for the first time, i have bought all the pressies and sent cards, putting decorations up next week. I love this time of year, the build up seems better than the day itself.

thought this could be an excited thread!

Thanks Lissielou for the Santa link it's lovely!! The kids loved it! I had tears in my eyes as well!
By the way I went to see "A Christmas Carol" today with DD (5).
It was A-MA-ZING!! I mean truely breathtaking.
Really scary though especially the ghost of Marley! I had to cover DD's eyes through the scary parts.
But otherwise she loved it too. Really true to the novel!!
Whatsmore, it was cold in the room, so when we got out we got 2 free tickets! I'm going to see it again with DH this time!! Can't wait I'm gonna see it in 3D this time, and I have to say DD constantly spoke through it bless her, asking me questions so it will be great to watch it with no interruptions.
It put me in a real Christmassy mood it's absolutely lovely I recommend it.

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 29/11/2009 18:11

aw, i really want to see it, but ds is that bit too young. my ds's snowman dvd has been dispatched today, constructing the advent calender tonight and trying to decide whether to see santa next sunday instead of the 20th. we are puttingf decs up then so thought it might be nice and festive.
glad you enjoyed the santa video. ds was entranced by his!

toffeeapple · 30/11/2009 13:39

Oh cool, we're putting ours up on saturday afternoon.
Can't wait, got my sherry today!
Actually, regarding A Christmas carol, come to think of it, if I had to do it again I wouldn't take DD to see it. It's too atrocious, I think it's more suitable for adults.
I felt really guilty because before she went to sleep she said: "Mummy I'm thinking of the ghost of Marley, his face..."
and she couldn't get to sleep. She did eventually and had no nightmares or anything, but to be honest, last night I was thinking "what the hell possessed me!".
Really stupid of me actually, although I was hiding her eyes for the scary bits (most of the movie basically, or at least during the ghost of Marley and the last spirit), even if she didn't think she was going to be scared.
I didn't think it was appropriate, too much info for a small child I think. Death and all that. I should have taken her to see a nice fluffy Christmassy film, entirely for children.

toffeeapple · 30/11/2009 13:44

By the way, we're going to see Santa on the 13th of December at a theme park. Ds is really aware of it all this year, he is 2 years and 8 months.
Dd can't believe it's the 1st of December tomorrow (ie permission from Daddy to do Christmassy stuff )

Marne · 30/11/2009 14:22

I'm soooooooooooooo excited .

I have spent way too much on presents and decorations, almost finished and wrapped everything and there is still almost a month to go.

I can't wait .

Dec's will be going up next week end (if i can wait that long, dh is working all day sat so it will keep me and the dd's busy and then sat night is dh's x-mas party (the one time we get to go out all year).

I can't wait for the dd's to break up from school and nursery so we can do Christmasy things (make mince pies and cookies).

Last year dh and i were ill over x-mas so it was a bit of a let down, fingers crossed we will be healthy this year.

bigchris · 30/11/2009 14:26

I have nearly bought all the presents too
now have to sit on my hands to stop myself buying any more cos of the £££ spent , lol

how can you fill the stockings now though? dont you hang them up empty on xmas eve?!!!

Marne · 30/11/2009 14:35

All my stocking fillers are in a shoe box hidden away ready to put in the stockings (we hang them up empty).

I have managed to buy some useful things for stocking this year like tooth brushes and flannels.

I really mustn't buy anything else for the dd's, i must stay out of the shops until after x-mas. I keep forgetting that i have ordered things online to until they turn up .

Bucharest · 30/11/2009 15:40

Can I join in please?
Dd and I are making Nigella's christmas fudge as soon as her h/w is finished, I have an Amazon basket that is going to need my own personal lorry for delivery (more so now I've just read this thread and been and chucked all dvds and books into it!)

I love Christmas and all carols and even the fecking coke adverts make me cry!

One of my best memories of all time is walking home from my Gran's with my Mum on Christmas Eve, soooo cold, and looking up at the stars and almost exploding with excitement at how good life was....nothing has ever topped that little feeling. (I was 6 I think and t'was the Christmas I got a doll, a pram and homemade baby furniture from my Grandad, that he'd been making all Autumn in his shed. )

Cards are being vistaprinted as we speak, dp will be doing his magnum opus with the nativity scene next w/e (although a suspicious dribble of hay in the corridor makes me think he might already have started)

I just love it all!

Must also do the Santa video thing with dd. (remembering to have camera ready!)

toffeeapple · 30/11/2009 16:26

Bucharest i know how you feel about the coke advert it's really really lovely and exciting.
I feel so much less of a freak with this thread!!

em83 · 30/11/2009 16:30

i will empty the stocking befor i put them up, was just checking to see if they were full enough lol

pigleychez · 30/11/2009 16:58

Glad to fins this thread!

I used to work in a nursery before i left to have DD so would always get excited with the kids about Xmas.
I was the one sent up the loft to get the tree down so I was the one the kids all came asking to about mid Nov!
I loved doing it with them and the whole of dec was just a fab magical time.

Now I a SAHM to DD (16mths) and equally cant wait. DD is becoming interested in it all this year as she was only a baby last xmas.

Shes already loving the decorations up in the shops. The trees and celing decorations are "pretty" aparently. Cant wait to get our decs up next weekend as she love helping decorate the tree, Although how long it lasts is another matter altogether!

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 30/11/2009 17:03

Yep, getting excited here too, no decorations yet, but cake, pudding etc all made and maturing nicely!

Went into Oxford briefly yesterday and DD's 6 & 4 saw some mechanical reindeer and were totally in awe.

The best bit is we go to EuroDisney with them on Wednesday for 4 days, and the have no idea.

Can't wait to see their faces, I think I will burst.

monkeyfacegrace · 30/11/2009 17:24

Oooooooh me me me Ive just done my decs! 3 6ft trees, 2 3ft trees, and lights everywhere! Im getting my main 9ft tree next Tuesday as I get a real one (others are fake), and I want to give it a chance of living till xmas! Ahhh I cant wait any longer!

teameric · 30/11/2009 17:28

I've started feeling very christmassy and excited today! me and my Mum have spent this afternoon ordering our presents online, and we are putting up the tree tomorrow, and starting our advent calenders (I have one too ) We are going to see Father Christmas on the 23rd!
Hope you have a fantastic time at EuroDisney BoiledEgg I bet it's lovely there at Christmas

Marne · 30/11/2009 17:46

monkey- thats a lot of trees , i couldn't fit that many in my house, it must have taken you ages to decorate them all, i take hour just to do one.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 30/11/2009 18:34

Thanks teameric.

monkeyfacegrace · 30/11/2009 19:24

A tree for every room of course
I have my crimbo cd on loud, and dance while decorating!

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 01/12/2009 07:51

boiledegg, am v of you! that will be fab. expect a full report young lady

monkey, lol

well, 1st dec so ds has opened his first window and is starting to get excited now the countdown has started!

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 01/12/2009 08:59

Lissie I'm starting to feel a bit sick with excitement.

I think I will be worse than DD's, I hope DH can cope with all of us.

toffeeapple · 01/12/2009 13:52

Ah ah!! Why is is that men don't seem to get as excited, what's wrong with them?
I thought men were supposed to be more childish?
Dd and I call DH mr Scrooge!! His answer to that is "I like Christmas, just not in the middle of bloody November!!".
Anyway, from now on we have free reins, and we can start enjoying December!!!

Peachy · 01/12/2009 13:58

I love Christmas

and ds4 is pushing two so whilst not getting it, is full of wonder at everything.... ds3 is 6 but excited as any 4 year old as thats where he is developmentally- in fact he might stay primary so heck, he can be excited forever about Christmas, that's a bonus for him!

Not all pressies bought yet but well underway, food ordered and cards dne. DS1 is 10 Thursday so got to focus on that first.

DS2 is singing qwith his school choir at the local Cathedral tonight, should feel seasonal afterwards for certain

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 02/12/2009 10:00

how did ds's concert go peachy? we are getting our decorations down today to check lights etc, dont know if i will be able to resist putting them up though!

definately going to see father Christmas on sunday (as long as I'm not still ill) but have had to cancel trip to shrewsbury as dont think i'll be well enough by then

where are the festive smileys btw?

GoldenSnitch · 02/12/2009 13:33

I bought us a reasonably expensive wooden Advent house this year (£30) cause I was so excited. It's beautiful.

Or at least it was - DS (2.7) has just pushed it off the window ledge and one corner of the roof is now all bent and split

I know its my fault for leaving it in his reach but he was being so gentle with it cause he loved it so much. He just pushed it off!

I'm heartbroken. It's only December 2nd!

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 02/12/2009 14:27

oh no

lissielouskissingsantaclaus · 03/12/2009 17:04

well, ds has found one of his pressies. am NOT impressed!
