ds is 4 and this year really gets Christmas for the first time, i have bought all the pressies and sent cards, putting decorations up next week. I love this time of year, the build up seems better than the day itself.

thought this could be an excited thread!

Aah, of course! Thanks lissielou, feel a bit silly now for spending the last 10mins searching the sky guide for a xmas channel

OracleInaCoracle · 28/11/2009 14:28

OP posts:
toffeeapple · 28/11/2009 14:41

It'll be busy Lissielou, but it'll be great.

I think preparation is the key. I've baked the Christmas cake and made the Christmas puddings, I've just finished wrapping the sausages in bacon and put them in the freezer along with the Chicken (none of us like Turkey) and some nibbles for Christmas day. All I have to do is defrost them in time and Mum will come round and cook them on the day while I chill out in my PJ's feeding my new baby

All I need to find time for is decorating a cookie with DS to leave out for Santa (we've had kits in the past but this year it'll be writing icing and sprinkles on a rich tea - just as good and cheaper) We'll leave it out on the special plate I made for DS with a beer for Santa and a carrot for Rudolf. We'll also sprinkle 'Reindeer food' outside the front door for the other Reindeer (porridge oats with glitter mixed in) to tempt them to our house.

It's going to be great

What a fantastic thread!! I feel as though I am alone in my excitement at this time of year! But I am not!!!!

We went to Winterwonderland in Hyde Park on Friday which definitely helped to get me all Christmasy.

All presents have been bought. Christmas lights have started to go up and decorations are out. Am trying to hold off on buying the tree....but may cave by Monday...and switch everything on on the 1st!

Lissie - thanks for that link to the santa video...looks great!

And I start to get excited as soon as Starbucks bring their red cups out. From there on in it is a struggle not to give in to the Christmas spirit!

OracleInaCoracle · 28/11/2009 17:53

oooo love the idea of decorating a cookie for santa, might try that with ds! agree that preparation is the key, i have been mocked for the past 6m for getting presents etc, now everyone is panicking and i am v smug!

mistletoe, ikwym, for me its the Co-Op ads, they really get me festive. oh, and Love actually!

Cookie Decorating is great fun and can be done at pretty much any age. We've had posh, shaped biscuits in the past but I think a plain rich tea will be good fun too. Once it's covered in some icing and sprinkles/sweeties, you won't be able to tell the difference

And it's something personal to leave out for Santa. Just make sure you get a photo every year so you can see the masterpieces before they get eaten - usually by DH in our house!

toffeeapple · 28/11/2009 20:28

Does anyone like Nativity scenes? I've got 4, and every year I seem to buy one.
I love them. I'm not going to buy one this year though, people who come into my house might thing I'm a complete psycho (like people who collect dolls). And DH would go mad.
What I'll do though if I find a nice one is buy a nice "mary, Joseph and Jesus" figurine set where you can put a tea light IYSWIM.
I bought a really nice ceramic all white one last year from the range and it looks AMAZING. Can't wait to get it out this year.

em83 · 28/11/2009 21:40
