Being holocausted?! I think this displays ignorance on a huge level.
Judaism is a non proslytising [ excuse spelling] faith and people have a right to live where they choose with who they choose.
They have been persecuted immensely over time in many countries.
Christians also live in los of countries as do muslims and yet they have countries they would be 'safer' in!

socialpariah · 01/01/2009 12:36

And hamas' homemade weapons have torn people apart and maimed lots to. Nails do that don't you know!

i don't understand how anyone could be 100% on either side.

i think the main problem is that internationally, countries/governments have taken sides and that's why this situation has spiralled.

there have been many opportunities lost.

ReturnIsAbasicHumanRight · 01/01/2009 13:03

rev the only surprising thing when the real debatable issues are mentioned they get shunned and channels are changed ........hehe how funny

well i arrest my case ........lol keep the flame burning and sympathy is innevitablestrange but it works.

Why would European Jews go to Utah in 1947

Rev, Return - what would be your solution? Land for peace clearly doesn't work.

I agree. I think its disgusting and an insult to those who lost relatives in the holocaust. I thought this was illegal anyway?

littleducks · 01/01/2009 19:27

i saw the deleted comment early this morning and felt that it wasnt worth trying to debate on this thread anymore

i'm definately supporting palestine in this conflict but i think that comments like that debase my arguments and make anyone who is supportive of palestine appear stupid and foolish to believe proganda of such 'comspiracy theories'

moondog · 01/01/2009 19:35

Ignore offensive comments and please carry on on MN. It is educational to us all to have people on who know what they are on about.

jojosmaman · 01/01/2009 19:47

Return- I won't even warrant your ignorant comments with an educated response.

Littleducks- I have discussed this on another thread which has moved on now so I don't want to go back to it but what I did say (and to which Piffle gave a very helpful to I notice, tres intelligent) is that I don't know how, sat here on the other side of the world in our relatively comfy society, we can say we support either side in a conflict when both sides are carrying out military attacks on innocent people. More for me actually, how can one show support for the Palestinian cause when they openly elected a ruling party that actively carries out abhorrent acts of terrorism and as lisalisa says, celebrates deaths caused to innocent people by these acts, it smacks of barbarism.

Don't get me wrong, I understand the history and why they feel like they want to reclaim their homes, who wouldn't, but I just cannot bring myself to "support" a people who either carry out or allow innocent people to be killed and maimed.

jojosmaman · 01/01/2009 19:48

Oh and meant to say "here here" to moondogs comment, I learn so much from threads like these.

gaussgirl · 02/01/2009 11:04

I feel the Palestinians are as much hostage to their Muslim neighbours as they are to Israel.

Am I right in thinking- was it Syria? - where many of the Palestinian refugee camps were situated- made absolutely sure the Palestinians couldn't integrate into Syria and were kept in 'refugee camp conditions' as the Syrians wanted them to 'keep up the fight' against Israel, effectively making them pawns in a dispute that affects the whole region.

The Palestinians do seem to have an unerring ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They elect a government who refuses to recognise the legitimacy of the State of Israel, they were seen dancing on the streets when the news of 9/11 broke. Hamas site their rocket launchers in residential areas so Israel is more or less obligated, when retaliating, to fire on 'civilian' targets.

I feel very sorry for the rank and file of the Palestinian people. I believe the vast majority of them want peace and prosperity, and statehood- I also believe the vast majority would support the existence of State of Israel if it meant they could attain these 'rights'. But I also believe the people are being manipulated in an ideological war in which they are no more than bit players, fighting out Biblical Epic whilst others sit back and let them carry on. The 'Middle East' supports the Palestinians, The West supports Israel. The US needs a 'friendly' base in the Middle East which Israel supplies.

And speaking of biblical, I believe the Jewish people may have suffered some expulsions themselves over the millennia! Look up 'Jewish diaspora on Wiki.

Finally, personally I believe the Palestinians and Israel could reach an acceptable working solution themselvesitself if it weren't for the rest of the world taking sides.

higgle · 03/01/2009 21:06

Please can you post this stuff in the correct place, I'm afraid people who try to hijack threads for political ends no matter how justified they feel minimise any chance of empathy from me.

gaussgirl · 04/01/2009 20:17

Are people hijacking or responding?

higgle · 05/01/2009 14:08

This is supposed to be all about Christmas - not about current day middle eastern politics. Why don't you start a new thread somewhere else so that those that want to be involved can be so in the right place.
