What did you do on Boxing Day?

I find it is such a difficult day. Everyone is tired and grumpy and has eaten too much of the wrong things.

We moped about for a bit (well, I did the moping; the children whinged and fought ) Dh was working which made it even harder.

I managed to pull myself together and made picnic. So we went for a short walk, a paddle in a stream, and a picnic lunch. Then back to watch Christmas films on television

What did you do?

OH no we played on animal crossing.
The boys went to the football with a mate and a cousin.

IAmTheNewQueenOfMN · 26/12/2008 20:30

the kids ate too much chocolate and we all played wii and ate more chocolate and scrummy christmassy things
little two in bed now
big one (8) still up and two adult stepsons here and I am going to have a few drinks

we are still wii-ing

Frizbe · 26/12/2008 20:32

Slept an hour later than usual , fed everyone, walked/dragged everyone to Meridians, ate and drank coffee, walked back, played with kids for a bit, fed everyone, girls to bed, mumsnet! whilst dh and ss play Xbox.

Joolyjoolyjoo · 26/12/2008 20:34

Well, I wanted a nice relaxed, chilled out day, as I am working tomorrow and know it will be chaos. I had thought the kids might be happy to play with the HUGE pile of stuff they acquired yesterday, but having pulled out virtually every present and strewn them everywhere they came whinging at me..."she's hitting me!" "she won't share XXX" "can we have chocolate?" "Can we open this now?" "She's broken this!- can you fix it?"

AARGH!! Ended up very harassed and so upset seeing them take so little care of toys that they only got yesterday, clearing up several times and trying to put all the bits of games etc back in the right boxes so they were actually still playable, while lecturing them about appreciating what you have and looking after it THen dd1 started going on about getting more presents for her birthday on Hogmanay, and I felt really sad at how greedy and ungrateful they seem to be.

Not a great day here!

IotasCat · 26/12/2008 20:34

went to friends, ate, drank , talked , came home and relaxed

Wallace · 26/12/2008 20:34

forgot to mention the wii-ing just before bed - just got it working. Actually I am about to forsake mumsnet and Wii all-by-myself for a bit

  • got ds2 out of bed at 6.50m when he woke, lay in bed with him watching chuggington and then when he wanted to get up sent him to my mum - we had stayed last night
  • went back to sleep for a while (got a bad cold), got up and sat round in dressing gown talking to mum till ex picked the boys up at 10am
  • mum went about 12, had a shower, tidied up a bit then went to town with my dad to get them a new tv
  • sat on sofa with duvet and watched tv

So much for my plans to get the house in some sort of order whil ex had the boys

Wallace · 26/12/2008 20:35

joolyjoolyjoo - that sounds familiar!

We did absolutely nothing, DP and DS1 went to the alootment for te morning/afternoon myself DS2 DD1 did nothing, I did a buffet for when they got back and went to 'have an hour' at 5.00pm. 7.30 I bloody woke up, so now I'm wifde awake and won't be able to go to bed at the usual time tonight

So i'm back upstairs in bed on the laptop as it's such a mess downstrirs I can't bear to look at it. DP is bringing me a cup of tea and he said he'd clean it up

choosyfloosy · 26/12/2008 20:38

oh i like Boxing Day, always have - i feel there's no pressure to be or do anything in particular really.

did lots of housework which is still a pleasure at the moment after building work finishing on 23 Dec; did 2 hour walk with friends and got very very cold; had them back for leftovers lunch in newly finished kitchen ; managed to finish Hama beads thing with ds after spending Christmas Day nearly making it and dropping it 3 times ; watched LOTS of telly; then dh took over at 7 and now is upstairs with ds

Wallace · 26/12/2008 20:41

Just realsed my OP makes it sound like we lie somewhere warm. We live in the Scottish Highlands and the temp didn't go above freezing all day

The paddling in the stream was because we made boats and were sailing them through a tunnel (under the path) and the kids were going through the tunnel too.

I have only left our hosue ONCE in two days and that was to go to the shop.
AM v pleased.

ohreindeerwhatamessysleigh · 26/12/2008 20:47

I went for a really long dog walk with a couple of friends (and no dcs) this morning.

Spent this afternoon icing Christmas cake (better late than never [blush)), doing jigsaws with ds1, reading to the dcs, playing with dcs and new toys, and refereeing countless fights between the dcs (all based around one ds touching the other's things).

This evening we've had a barbeque (yes, really ), and now I'm pootling around on the internet whilst dh plays an xbox game. Going to watch yesterday's Dr Who soon then go to bed.

AugustusGloop · 26/12/2008 20:47

Ha! we bbqed tonight too!

BONKERZ · 26/12/2008 20:50

my boxing day started with a fry up. Then played on wii for bit. cooked a pile of buffet food and have spent the day eating, drinking, playing on wii/xbox (nephew bought his round so set it up in conservatory!) listening to music, and just enjoying the day really!

TWINSETinapeartree · 26/12/2008 20:50

we always go walking or similar on boxing day, today took dd fishing with her new rod.

AugustusGloop · 26/12/2008 20:50

What is wiht this buffet thing?

Lizzylou · 26/12/2008 20:50

Woke up by DS1 shouting, my Mom (who was staying) got him and DS2 into bed with her, then I got in bed with them all and we had a snuggle, which was lovely.

Had breakfast, boys played with more of their toys which we set up this morning, MOm left. Went out to find (more) batteries.

Dropped DH to watch the football and meet his mates. Came home and had a great time playing with lots of previously unopened presents with the boys, loved the lego!
Made Chicken and hame pie, fed boys, got them to bed then rang my Mom, had a chat and got the Sherry open (DH had called to say he was staying out late).
Have control of the remote and can MN in peace.

dinny · 26/12/2008 20:50

we did the best thing I've ever done on Boxing Day and went to the pantomime in Wimbledon with lots of family (Cinderella with Gareth Gates and Stacey one off G&S) and it was FAB.

I normally start feeling all cooped up and mad on Boxing Day, so am definitely going to do it again next year!

schneebly · 26/12/2008 20:52

we had a restful morning watching TV while the kids played with toys they hadn't gotten round to yesterday then this afternoon we used vouchers we got for Chrisdtmas to take the kids to the cinema and we watched Bedtime Stories which was very silly but pretty funny all the same! The we came home, ate leftovers, played with a hotwheels track and now the kids are in bed. Was a nice day actually apart from having play-doh trodden into the carpet. Thankfully it was the one we are ripping out in Jan anyway so I didnt make too much effort getting it out!

Hassled · 26/12/2008 20:53

I've spent the day lounging on the sofa and watching DS3 box like a loon on the Wii. He's beaten everyone in the family including DS1 (21 and ultra-competitive).

And I've eaten a ton of cold turkey. My next snack will be Christmas Pud fried in Brandy Butter - I lurve Boxing Day

IllegallyBrunette · 26/12/2008 20:54

I got up about 9, left all 3 dc sleeping. Washed up the mountain of dishes from the night before.

Ds woke about 9:30, so I did him some toast and then took toast and juice up to both dd's (I am sure it should be mne getting breakfst in bed).

Dd's eventually got up and we just lazed around really, tidied some toys away, played on the wii, oh and both dd's played outside for a bit.

They are at their dads now until after lunch tommorow.

tassisssss · 26/12/2008 20:57

wow wallace, picnic sounds lovely

i nipped to the sales this morning, came home and dh made fab fry up brunch, then lazed around and had a bath and we all watched lots of TV, ds played new games/toys. Then when my girls woke from their naps we had a quick walk/bike ride before it got dark. 4 of the 5 of us had to get out of jammies to dress for walk! Then tea, pjs again for last nights wallace and grommit before packed 3 littlies off to bed. Dh has lit a fantastic fire, and we're supposedly sorting photos but he's nipped off to watch Dr Who!

singyswife · 26/12/2008 20:57

MIl came round and cooked dinner then we played many games with dc's and had a laugh and drank lots of wine (while dh slept as he is not well). Good day.

LittleChristmasCracker · 26/12/2008 21:00

Had a lazy morning in bed, left dcs to their own devices .... to play computer games/eat chocolate etc

Got up by 10:30 and packed their cases.

12:00 ex came to take them for a week

Since then I have eaten ham sandwiches, chocolates, drunk tea and wine, snoozed and 'putered (oh and played Little Big Planet)

lovely day
