I have 50 people to buy for, with a donation of £100 from the boss and I could probably contribute another £25 so about £2.40 per head! Can't do gambling or alcohol so those out of the question! Would be grateful for any suggestions, there are women and men to buy for! Thanks!

Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to get a coffee maker for the staffroom - the one whre you put the cartridge in. I think they have a half price one in argos so I will have plenty left for cartridges and nice tea bags and biccies for the non-coffee drinkers.

They have the tassimo at argos, I've just bought one - had to chase one through a few stores though!

bramblebooks · 20/12/2008 22:23

(sit down and work out how much it would be for 50 of the cartridge things though, so that at least everyone can have one drink!)

geisha · 20/12/2008 22:26

tassimo, that's right. Was it half price?

£48.89 tassimo

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 20/12/2008 22:38

aah have just read moneysavingexpert and apparently the refills are really find and there have been several machines like it before which have been left to gather dust because they stop selling refills.

jingleMAMADIVAsbells · 20/12/2008 22:42

Apparently this one is very good Dolce Gusto

geisha · 20/12/2008 22:56

mmmm, maybe a cafetiere then?

Candles?

bramblebooks · 20/12/2008 23:06

Found loads in tescos and sainos, my mate's had her machine for a few years - just to confuse things! But you would have to work out how to fund more of the pod things when the initial 'fund' was exhausted.

sorry I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill with this. If I was really unsure , I would just put up a litle festive poster saying "Happy Christmas from Drs so and so, we have £100 to spend, what would you like done with this?, please list below, will choose the best option in the new year..something to lookforward to, thank you!"
Then if electrical equipment like coffee maker comes up, that's fine, it will have been something they definately wanted and you can discuss the issues of ongoing cleaning and supply. There will be plenty of nibbles and chocs anyway in the department given by other patients and relatives. Give them something they can take away or ask them what they want, if even if it means they don't get it straight way.

Gosh, I'm a nurse and that's really generous of your consultants! Usually all the recognition you get in the NHS is having to work on the day and a free mince-pie.

I wouldn't buy food cos it'll all get scoffed by the staff on shift and some won't get anything. Plus, some people wouldn't be able to eat anything nice (anyone on a special diet for instance) and might feel a bit .

I would go with the above poster's suggestion with a notice, and a joint decision. Personally I'd be quite happy to purchase a new battery for the dynamap so you don't have to plug it in next to every patient as you walk round the ward. That would be a present I'd be grateful for all year round!

geisha · 21/12/2008 08:42

I am really unsure, think partly because I have only been there for a couple of months so don't know people well enough to be able to make an infomed decision yet. I will put a sign up. Decided. Done.

lol meebles about the battery for the dynamap - the worst thing is climbing over the visitors and having move the locker to get to the plug and then find no plugs left because the two available plugs have a pumps plugged in!
