In the Waitrose Xmas magazine this year where arch Ponce Syephen Bayley has an article on the design and gemütlichkeit of a Scandanvian winter.
It is really just an excuse for arty red and white shots.

One of these is a real life " serving suggestion" type idea. The picture is of red and white playing cards face down with a cookie cutter on top of it and then a white unlit tea light on top.

Next to it it says " arrange red and white playing cards with a cookie cutter on top of it and then a white unlit tea light on top."

UTTERLY senseless.

...

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 10:29

Why would you arrange playing cards around your house? UNless you were Lord "lucky" Lucan of course.
If anyone can outponce that I will kiss them.

aaah - but what I want to know is - will anyone DO it?!!

NotQuiteCockney · 09/12/2008 10:29

No - really? That's hilarious. Someone must have been pissing themselves, writing that up.

Actually, the fact they couldn't come up with any decent Scandi food reinforces my belief, that unless you really really like weird fish, that part of the world is a culinary disaster area.

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 10:30

Yes although they do have a nice way wiht Salmon and potato salad.

Itsjustsorandom · 09/12/2008 10:30

lol - love this xmas twaddle

Hassled · 09/12/2008 10:31

Brilliant .

I think this year's Christmas centrepiece chez Hassled might be an array of Match Attack cards with a digestive biscuit on top.

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 10:31

I think I may go and look for more, unless I have put it out for recycling.

OP posts:
Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 10:35

what xmas cookie are you?

OP posts:
Itsjustsorandom · 09/12/2008 10:41

imho - The John Lewis upsidedown xmas tree is the most ridiculous thing I've seen lol

Hassled · 09/12/2008 10:42

Ah bless, Martha, I'm a Sugar Cookie. My day is now complete.

Astonishingly enough, I also learnt that the majority of people eat turkey at Christmas. Who'd have thought it?

christMAScomesbutonceayear · 09/12/2008 10:46

I'm molasses ginger bread cookies apparently
Who eats spaghetti for Christmas dinner ?

Anchovy · 09/12/2008 10:48

I have a slightly Waitrose-related uber middle class dilema, although it is not poncey.

Every year someone in our road has a drinks party to which the whole road is invited. Think vol-au-ventastic late seventies drinks party rather than luvverley knees-up style street party. I just got an invitation for this year's one and it clashes with my large Christmas Ocado delivery slot!

Itsjustsorandom · 09/12/2008 10:50

anchovy all your neighbours will see the ocado van at your house

Mercy · 09/12/2008 10:51

What is a croquembouche?

MrsMattie · 09/12/2008 10:51

LOL@ this thread

There was a summer issue of Waitrose magazine where they made a 'charming table display' (OK they didn't call it charming, but they probably wanted to) with about 100 pomegranates. Who is going to buy 5 crates of pomegranates and pile them up in the middle of the tale for art's sake?

F*ing ponces, that's who.

Mercy · 09/12/2008 10:52

and also gemütlichkeit?

Santaisfeelingfunnypeculiar · 09/12/2008 10:53

I am a candy stick cookie (wtf?)
"You're a little complicated and possibly high maintenance, but well worth it"

It is rather scary to discover your entire life can be summed up on whether you eat goose or turkey.....

ComeOVeneer · 09/12/2008 10:54

You are undoubtedly
Candy-Stripe Cookie Sticks.

You're a little complicated and possibly high maintenance, but well worth it

Itsjustsorandom · 09/12/2008 10:57

I'm a "Molasses-Gingerbread Cookies.

You're warm, spicy, and multifaceted."

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 11:05

I was candy striped too.
The choices for xmas breakfast were limited.

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 11:05

I also could only think of Mr. T Soprano regarding the spaghetti option.
LOl at you all.

Wildebeest · 09/12/2008 11:07

Anchovy

Keep slot. Put not on door to Ocado man " please ring this mobile as I want to give you xmas tip in person".

Then flash your tits at him.

Mercy · 09/12/2008 11:10

What does that word mean please?!

MmeHereWeGoAWassailLindt · 09/12/2008 11:16

Gemuetlich means cosy, inviting. There is not a direct translation which is why it is used a lot. It is german, not Swedish afaik
