Tree up already ludicrously early - are we first?

Put the tree and Xmas decorations up today including wreath on door. Was a reason, am normally bah humbugush, are we first? Will the neighbours laugh at us?

Strangely, it was less stressful than normal (normally last minute panic arounf December 18th) so maybe is better.

Way too early! No wonder people get fed up with Christmas. I don't even think of decorating until the week before. The poor tree would be bald!!!

Mumi · 24/11/2008 00:52

STOP!!! This Christmas is not ready yet

Buda · 24/11/2008 10:42

Far too early for me. Ours will go up on 5th Dec this year - only because we are having a party on 6th and I want the house to look Christmassy. And then we go away for Xmas anyway!!!

Mercy · 24/11/2008 10:51

We had our first Christmas card last week

Flightattendant4 · 24/11/2008 10:55

I'm doing ours either on the 1st or thereabouts.
I'm excited now, love having tree etc, makes it a festive feel to the house, then as soon as Christmas day is done I can take the darn thing down and get everything back to normal!!

I am working backwards from the fact that I always have a mad, insane urge to throw it out immediately after Christmas, if not during, and it's a bit of a waste if it's only been up for a day!

So swapped the plan last year and got it on 1st Dec. It was lovely.

piscesmoon · 24/11/2008 14:26

Its no wonder people have finished with Christmas on 25th and are off to the sales! I get really annoyed; I refuse to go shopping on Boxing Day-I am just starting Christmas! I don't think of doing anything before about 15th at the earliest.

EarthwormFrittataBugEnchilada · 24/11/2008 14:38

Personally I don't like to see Christmas stuff up at the beginning of December. It's a Christmas tree not an Advent tree

We get our tree on the last school day before Christmas hols and put it up the first day of the hols. But recently we've been thinking of going ultra traditional and not putting it up until Christmas Eve.

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 14:39

I completely agree - I will notleave the house on boxing day and refuse to go shopping until January at the earliest, same with all the xmas music in the shops too early too! saying all that the tree does look quite nice and the dc are enjoying it .....

Too early. It's not even Advent yet.

Lotster · 24/11/2008 14:56

November. Too early.

Tree might not last till christmas if it's a real one.

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 14:58

Fake so no worries {shame}

I'm judging you. Now. Can you feel it?

mogs0 · 24/11/2008 15:19

Mine goes up early December. I'm having a party, too, on the 6th so it'll probably go up the day before when ds comes home from school (assuming I've cleared all the junk from my lounge by then!!).

It is a relief to put it away in January though!!

FarmerChristmas · 24/11/2008 15:20

Those who wait til Christmas Eve, are you super organised?
I find I'm manic then and no time to faff putting the tree up

Lotster · 24/11/2008 15:21

Actually, thinking about it, you should leave it up all year round, just to freak people out.

Play lots of Cliff Richard and make it clear you expect presents from every visitor.

cheesesarnie · 24/11/2008 15:21

whhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyy?take it dont right this second!

ours dont go up till after ds2 birthday(19th dec).

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:24

good idea. i am already attempting this with Birthdays. the Happy Birthday banner has been up in the dining room since ds2 birthday in Spetember and now there seems no point in taking it down since ds1's birthday is coming up at the end of December.

Actually, since having kids, the whole birthday party / Xmas stuff does seems to have taken on gigantic proportions and I do seem to spend the latter part of the year thinking about it / organising it etc so you're right, maybe it can be permanently birthday/xmas day in oyr house??

(okay, being silly now - broke out the Roses today so am having a bit of a sugar rush)

Yes, also put a Simpson's (Flanders) type display outside the house too.

You will be known locally as the "Grotto" / or "them Christmas weirdos" and the local paper will do a piece on you.

southeastastra · 24/11/2008 15:29

just seen my dad, he's put his up too!

MatBackFeck · 24/11/2008 15:30

Sadly I would be excommunicated from the RA round here for so much as an outdoor fairy light - really does not go down well in these parts. We were the only house to have a pumpkin, no trick or treaters and last year my xmast star lights inside the window was the only externally viewable evidence of it being Xmas at all.

Actually I am a massive hypocrite - I used to be exactly the same, you just get more into it post-dc don't you?

Still draw the line at the outdoor decs though.
