We bought ds a pirate ship last christmas when he was 2.10 and he loves it!

Elk · 17/10/2008 13:29

My dd aged 5 loves playmobil. The campervan is excellent. I am getting dd2 the Noah's ARk for her 3rd birthday as she loves playing with animals.

nappyaddict · 17/10/2008 13:29

i don't really know anything about playmobil. does it come already built or do you have to build it? ds would like the recycling truck and police boat i think.

bodiddly · 17/10/2008 13:32

think you have to build most of it ... you certainly did with the pirate ship ... most of the large pieces were together but dp spent hours sorting out the sails etc. Well worth it though!

Marne · 17/10/2008 13:32

Both dd's like the camper van, police car, bus, park and take along house.

I have bought dd the circus tent and a few of the circus sets for x-mas but i think thats age 5+ (alot of tiny bits)

I like the pony ranch and the forest lodge but i dont think we have enough room for any more playmobil.

ohh i forgot, dd's apsalute favourate is the rubish truck

nappyaddict · 17/10/2008 13:45

marne - what's the rubbish truck like? does it stay together? a lot of the playmobil at toddlers seems to fall apart when anyone tried to play with it.

bodiddly · 17/10/2008 14:02

I saw the rubbish truck reduced to £15 in tesco the other day ... am considering it for ds!

Marne · 17/10/2008 14:03

We bought the rubish truck 2nd hand its like this but ours is green, it comes with wheely bins which clip on to the back to be emptied. It seems strong, dd2 tries to sit on it ,there is'nt as many small parts with it like most of the other sets.

AbbaFan · 17/10/2008 14:14

I think playmobil is actually better for slightly older kids, as it's so delicate.

My DS's both love it (8 and 4), the camper van, areoplane and ambulance are a big hit in our house.

frazzled74 · 17/10/2008 14:15

thanks, would the take along house be ok for a 5 year old do you think?

OP posts:
Marne · 17/10/2008 15:39

The take along house has alot of small bits like cups, plates etc.. so maybe not as good for younger ones, dd got it last year when she was 3, she has played with it alot but not as much as some of the other bits.

I like the look of the carwash and the pony ranch bits

Dd has the ambulance which gets played with alot and seems to be well built.

chapeloffearstickchick · 17/10/2008 15:42

my ds play with ours a lot we have a castle and a dinosaur dig thing -they take ages to set up tho - i got ours dead cheap in woolies fter xmas .

apparently you can buy damaged box sets direct from playmobil at half the rrp.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 17/10/2008 15:44

And the top tip if you're giving it as a present is to get it all put together in advance, so you're not having to do it half cut on Christmas day in the afternoon with the DCs hovering, desperate to play with their new toy.

We gave DS airport and plane for 3rd Birthday. It's a huge hit with every child that comes in the house including several 5 year old girls. Def gender neutral. Also have from older cousins hand-me-downs of recycling ruck and ambulance and a fort with nights. Again all massive hits. Girls I know aged 3 and 5 have the ambulance and hospitally stuff and absolutely love it.

Advice to put it together night before or even earlier is crucial, airport took us HOURS. I've also taken some of the really fiddly bits away, they'll either be choked on or lost, but will come out one day and will add again to the experience etc.

threetinytots · 17/10/2008 21:22

Definately not too old at 5 and maybe a bit young at 2.5. The take along house is very good value for money, but has quite a few very small pieces. You can take these out though, and I don't think it hinders play value for younger ones. Campervan is great, my niece has the pony ranch and the grand mansion which get played with daily and all my dcs spend hours with it when they visit.

I'm secretly hankering after the modern house but dd1 has asked for sylvanian this year. The playmobil website have the modern house and room sets on special offer at the moment at £99 plus free delivery.

tissy · 17/10/2008 21:23

I want the pyramid, and I'm 45

changer22 · 17/10/2008 21:24

Now that everyone has raved about it, anyone know of any special offers around?

tissy ... I love the look of the whole egyptian set ... ds is 4 in february so I am holding out to see if it is on sale in the UK by then. But it is soooo expensive!

bodiddly · 17/10/2008 22:02

the pyramid is on sale in germany .. I think they get the new stuff a year before the UK

tissy · 17/10/2008 22:10

ahhh.....the only reason I know about the pyramid is because I just happened to be in KaDeWe in Berlin this week. I even brought back a German Playmobil catalogue with me.

Grr.

was hoping that dd might change her mind and ask FC for one rather than a feckin' Rescue Pal!

gemmiegoatlegs · 17/10/2008 22:13
