DD was born 10:10 on Christmas morning 21 years ago, she was 10 days late so I didn’t care what day it was 😂.
This year she made us proud joining the Royal Navy.
This year she won’t be home this Christmas, not because she’s deployed/working but for she’s spending it on a beach in Phuket.
We’ll obviously miss her but she’s only young once and needs to live her life
We’re also mindful it will be the 21st anniversary of the Boxing Day tsunami in Thailand

Dd was due Christmas eve. . Those previously eluded pelvic floor muscles kept her in until New Year's Eve!!
Other dc were worried I would miss Christmas...
My midwife was called Noelle having been born on the 25th!

hiredandsqueak · 14/12/2025 11:45

I was born at 11.58pm on Christmas Day. The midwives had been "encouraging" dm to go into labour for a week as I was due Christmas Day and I was to be a home birth but I wasn't budging. I had perfect timing supposedly, parents brother and sister had a full Christmas day, dm cooked a Christmas dinner and after the kids were bathed and in bed she went into labour. My Dad had to go and rescue the midwife who was on a pushbike as it had snowed and she couldn't get to dm so she arrived in the works van with her bike in the back and I arrived soon after. My siblings slept through it all meeting me next morning.

Unfortunately DS is often forgotten in the Christmas rush. Quite a few relatives forgot on his first birthday, not even a card. Growing up he is still often overlooked and sometimes has received a £1 selection box for his birthday. Makes me sad as I see no effort is put in to getting him anything when I have always bought for their children.

Oh bless him, how old is he now?
We’ve always made the point it’s DDs birthday first and Christmas 2nd.
Presents are wrapped in separate wrapping paper etc

I can sympathise. My DS is an Xmas day baby. It’s amazing how many adult relatives “forgot” his birthday or remembered as an afterthought. Even on Xmas day they were disgruntled they had to share Xmas day with his birthday. In the end we stayed at home and celebrated his birthday properly, as it should be.

ILoveMyCaravan · 14/12/2025 14:48

Yes my first born was Xmas day. One week late. He loved it as a child, not so much now as an adult as he’d much rather celebrate with his mates, which probably won’t happen as they’re all with their families or partners on the day.

MissyB1 · 14/12/2025 14:56

My ds (about to turn 17), was born 23rd December, I came home from hospital on Christmas day (I'd had a C section). My nephew was born on Christmas day. Its really tricky to celebratee their birthdays with everything being about Christmas.

gogomomo2 · 14/12/2025 14:59

congratulations to your daughter on joining the navy. Proud navy mum here too, also deployed but not anywhere like that!

Leavmealone · 14/12/2025 15:13

I was born at 11.32pm on Christmas night. Apparently my older sister (who was 4 at the time), was given strict instructions that I was not, under any circumstances, to be put in the new doll's pram that Father Christmas had brought her.

so match their efforts? stock up on selection boxes, and give them out over the year for their birthdays? it will make the point.

DD will be 19 on Wednesday, I’m making the decorations for her cake now, inspiration image below! She loves being a Christmas baby and always told me that she liked to imagine that the lights were all put up just for her. We’ve made a big deal of her birthday over the years to keep it separate from Christmas.

ClassicBBQ · 14/12/2025 15:48

DS was due 20th, but born 23rd. I was desperate not to have him on Christmas Day, so I tried everything possible to get him out.

MrsSpencerCharnas · 14/12/2025 15:57

DD1 was due 25th. Spent 9 months saying it will be fine, no-one is born on their due date. She was!!!
I actually found Christmas day was a great day to give birth. I was offered it all. Water birth, birthing ball etc as it was really quiet.
She will be 18 this year.

I found that she was the one most likely to get her birthday remembered by extended family members. My other 2 DCs just got forgotten about on their birthdays.

As a family we have always let her open her birthday presents (wrapped in birthday wrapping paper) on Christmas Eve and she gets to choose what we eat.

She’s still in phase 2 at Sultan so off for 2 weeks, she’s in Fleet Air Arm so hopefully won’t be a sea too much

DS2 was due on the 16th of January, he was born on Christmas Eve. Two years ago he and DDIL announced they were expecting and her due date was the 18th January. I said “ooh a Christmas baby then…” DGS was born on Boxing Day, three weeks early, just like his daddy!

We’ve always made sure DS2 has separate birthday and Christmas presents, different paper and a card. We did a party for him when he chose too. DGS is going to get the same.

It’s DS1’s birthday today, so December is a very expensive time for us.

JustPlainStanfreyPock · 14/12/2025 16:14

I was born at home on Christmas Day, love having a Christmas birthday as it's always a special day, and my parents always made sure I had presents for both Christmas and birthday. The only drawback as a kid was that I hated Christmas cake and marzipan, and as my mum wouldn't make a sponge cake as well as all the other Christmas food, I was stuck with the fruit cake for my birthday.
Now I'm in my sixties I still love it and have learned to like Christmas cake and marzipan, now made by me 😊🎂

TheToteBagLady · 14/12/2025 16:16

My dd was born just a couple of days before Christmas. It was so lovely, hearing Christmas carols being sung near the labour ward.

My sister’s birthday is on Christmas Day. I think it was often forgotten about by wider family and friends.
Some people gave her one present, whereas other kids got a Christmas and birthday present.

My other kids all have summer birthdays. I think it’s nice that they get a special day, just for them in summer.

My mum is January. Nobody wants to do anything for that - everyone is broke and on a diet after Christmas.

DD loves chocolate cake so it’s always a yule log for her 😂

I always made DS2 a chocolate fudge cake so we’d have that on Christmas Eve, and there would be plenty for those who didn’t want Christmas pudding or Christmas Cake. He still gets one.

I hope your DD enjoys her holiday to Thailand and has a successful career in the Navy @BobbySox71. DS1 is in the army so I’ve not seen him on his birthday today, and he’s been away for three Christmases. It’s hard, but he makes me incredibly proud.

My daughter was due Christmas Day 2008.
She came at 6am on Christmas Eve morning, at home, on my couch (props to midwife for containing the absolute tsunami of water when she shot out!)

She still gets annoyed at me for giving her such a shit birth date 🤣
