Good Christmas romcoms (not hallmark)

Anyone suggest any nice christmassy romcoms to watch - not cheesy hallmarks (which I also love, but not looking for that right now). Am thinking things like The Holiday and Love Actually.
Thanks

The Apartment.

Eta: the 1960 film. I think there might be another recent film with the same name.

Is this a Christmas film?

It's arguably a stretch to call it a Christmas film, but does have a Christmas scene in the middle, and at the end - About a Boy.

We always watch Nativity when putting the tree up. And sometimes watch Nativity 2 at some point. We try to forget about any other Nativities.

Well probably not technically, but the core of the story is set around Christmas and New Year, so it could fit IMHO!

Another vote for “the family stone “ it’s a lovely film with some great actors in it also “the holdovers “ it’s not a rom com as such but it’s a good feel good film set around a boy’s boarding school at Christmas .

I've never seen it but I will do now! My "advent calendar" for this year is a Christmas film a day. I'm trying to mix it up with genres, old favourites and things I've not seen before.

Love this one!

About Fate is pretty enjoyable, not strictly a Christmas movie, but includes Christmas and I think concludes on NYE.

The Family Man
The Holdovers
NOT The Family Stone. Awful film.

Last Christmas is really good. Especially if you like George Michael.
The new Michelle Pfieffer one on Netflix - i only lasted 10 minutes. Awful. Maybe my age though, 🤔

No, it’s not you, it’s awful. So much potential with that cast but omg.

We turned it off after 15 minutes, it was excruciatingly awful (and that's from someone who has watched all the Christmas Prince films)

Oh I'm watching that tonight. It can't be as bad as hot frosty.

GreenGodiva · 05/12/2025 16:00

Just friends with Ryan Reynolds. I laugh out loud every single time and it’s a winter staple.

I just zoned out. I watched it last night. It was just weird.

Surviving Christmas with Ben Affleck, Christina Applegate, Catherine O'Hara and James Gandolfini.

Laugh out loud and very underrated, imo. We watch it every year.

Single all the way

Thanks for this tip, watched it last night, genuinely funny.

Please let it be known I’m now way behind on arranging Christmas. I have had the best time watching film after film, mostly ones I haven’t seen. Been a perfect few days. Keep them coming. 🎄

Just watched ‘Man Up’ and it is laugh out loud funny. Loved it. Sharon Horgan in the cast. Did she write it?

Any similar movies? To be honest I didn’t spot the Christmas references!!

Thank you!! So many recs for The Family Stone on this thread I ended up watching it yesterday. Horrible film! Horrible family, bullying, judgemental and flat out cruel in parts to someone who’s a bit different to them and they’d made their minds up about her before she even entered the house. Not a film for Christmas spirit if you’re looking for that sort of thing.

Christmas with the Coopers has a similar theme with an “outsider” love interest - he’s a conservative, Christian, army officer. But he’s portrayed as a thoroughly decent guy with a different value system to the family - the teasing goes both ways and no one is made to look ridiculous.

I much prefer it for that reason.

Screamingabdabz · 07/12/2025 09:51

Can’t stand most of these 🤦🏻‍♀️ But I love Holidate and Nativity.
