Gift wrap……anyone else enjoy wrapping?

I often hear people moan about wrapping gifts, or leaving it until the last minute. Is there anyone else here that absolutely loves wrapping gifts? And if so, do you go all out with the ribbon, string, labels etc…?

What gift wrap are you using this year?
Do you have a theme?
Do you have different wrapping for each child/person?

wrapping haters need not comment 😉…..unless you want me to wrap for you.

I used to hate it as I wasn't any good at it, but, practice makes perfect (Ok, not perfection! 😂). I now really enjoy getting my supplies together, wrap, scisors, selotape, tags, pen, drink and make a few hours of wrapping with Christmas tunes playing to help me along and feel in the spirit. I did try one year with matching the wrap colour to the tree and matching ribbons but it wasn't for me. I do the same as when I was a kid, lots of different rolls of paper (With Santa's on, Snowmen, reindeer, etc.) and all wrapped with them. It''s very colourful under my tree!
How about you @Moonlightfrog ? Do you colour coordinate, matching bows, etc?

FiddleFigs · 13/11/2025 16:37

I love it! I don't do a theme because I can never decide between all the lovely options. DDs gifts are always wrapped in the same paper, so that she can immediately spot hers under the tree. The rest get a mix. But always ribbon, tied in a bow. I love wrapping - I usually stick on a Christmassy film, and crack on.

BatshitCrazyWoman · 13/11/2025 16:38

I absolutely love wrapping. Every year I seem to have a theme, but it's not intentional, more that I'm drawn to certain colours that year. And yes, ribbons, tags, making gift bags out of wrapping paper, I do the whole lot 😁

DinoLil · 13/11/2025 16:38

No. Just no. If I can cheat with a gift bag and tissue paper then I'm very happy!

Ineedanewsofa · 13/11/2025 16:40

I hate it, DD loves it and now has a lucrative slideline income wrapping things that I don’t want to 🤣 She finds it relaxing…

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/11/2025 16:41

No. I hate it. As @DinoLil gift bags and tissue paper are the way to go. I have had presents gift wrapped before in a department store, not sure if they still do this. I happily paid for this service.

I enjoy it. I enjoy having a nice selection of different Xmas wrapping papers, including a special one covered in Santa faces for pressies from the man himself! I save cards to cut out for gift tags from the previous year. I love writing Xmas cards listening to Xmas music with my tree lights on and ideally a warm glass of mulled wine!

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 13/11/2025 16:45

I love it, we went and picked out our wrapping papers this week! I'm going to make a start soon 😍

OutandAboutMum1821 · 13/11/2025 16:46

Ooh and my children enjoy using Christmas stampers and stickers to decorate brown paper bags ready to pop out homemade Xmas chutney in for teacher/TA/family gifts 🎁

SixSeven · 13/11/2025 16:47

My ex boyfriend loved wrapping presents and did it beautifully. I miss him at Christmastime 😂

ILoveLucite · 13/11/2025 16:54

I love it. I watch wrapping videos on Instagram to get ideas and can make gift bags and envelopes. I’ve even crocheted my own bows this year.

Every year in the run up to Christmas I send DH out for the evening, queue up a Christmas movie and wrap presents with a big glass of Snowball. It’s fabulous.

TrolleySculpture · 13/11/2025 17:03

Yes, we love it. Dh and I take over the dining room and put on Christmas music. We have our own scissors and tape, we divide the gifts up and my children get different wrapping paper to each other. Father Christmas gets his own wrapping paper too. He does stocking gifts, my children are 22 and 19 and their stockings still go up for the man in red.

Then my side of the family get one pattern and in laws get another. That way we know we have got all the presents in the large Christmas bags we have. We take those into our families' houses and use those same bags to transport all our stuff back home.

We have wrapping paper from Costco and it is really good quality so no ripping corners but also it is double sided so you get 2 patterns on one roll. We have stocked up over the years so have all different ones.

If I am doing ribbon I don't wrap it around the present and tie it. Instead I cut it and tape it to the finished present on the back so it comes off with the wrapping paper, no fiddling about trying to stretch it off the gift.

Lennonjingles · 13/11/2025 17:05

I like it for about 30 minutes, then I get frustrated and give up and start again another day.

Lallybroch · 13/11/2025 17:10

I love wrapping presents and have set myself up a wrapping station this year. I have a dedicated a cupboard just for wrapping paper, cards, etc so that I know where everything is. I don't usually have a theme but enjoy making each gift look special.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/11/2025 17:12

I love it. I use brown parcel paper and accesorize! I don’t like the garish prr ye into and flimsy wrap.

Cherryrainbow · 13/11/2025 17:40

I wrapped the kids stuff with my mum at her house. It was nice! Cuppa tea, chat, she makes fun of my rubbish folding of corners, but it's good fun x

ConnieHeart · 13/11/2025 17:48

Yes I like it and my cat does too! All that lovely scrunchy paper & pretty ribbon 🤣. Though I've come close to wrapping her up too in previous years

I just use whatever wrapping paper I have to hand. Always use ribbon tied in a bow but on Christmas Day when we unwrap I have to say "just pull the ribbon" a few times at least when someone is trying to get the ribbon off the present in a very illogical way

Defiantly41 · 13/11/2025 17:55

I love it - sadly we have a small family and no little children so very few parcels this year. I might volunteer for a local charity that delivers presents to children that otherwise wouldn’t get any, I’m sure they’ve advertised in previous years for helpers

GooseyGandalf · 13/11/2025 18:19

I love it!

This year I have a gorgeous dark navy printed kraft paper that I picked up in a charity shop last year last year and navy, light blue, grey and red ribbons to pick out the details, and keep track of who each gift is for.

There’s a few things that elevate wrapping: good quality paper that doesn’t tear when you breathe near it, double sided tape, cutting the paper to size, folding sharp edges as well as corners. And ribbon! Lots and lots of lovely ribbons!

ShodAndShadySenators · 13/11/2025 18:41

I LOVE wrapping. Each year I buy more rolls of wrapping paper even though I have some left over every time, there's a big bag in the loft with, and I do not lie, nearly fifty different rolls. I did have more but had a bit of a cull and got rid of some that I knew I wouldn't use (they were mostly dull ones). I prefer the ones with the cutting guide on the reverse.

I really look forward to the day when I've got all the presents. Stick on some Christmas music, cup of tea and a festive treat, make sure the cat isn't hiding in the room so she can come out and "help" with the paper. Then crack on!

I even wrap stocking fillers, I have many tissue papers for that.

SliceofTosst · 13/11/2025 19:03

Love it! So therapeutic. I get all the stuff out (paper ribbons, bags etc).
I get myself a wine or beer and put some Christmas tat on TV.
Separate presents into 'who' categories and stick to one paper pattern for one person per household.
Then put them in Christmas bags for life per household (these are usually the ones our presents were received in last year).
Feel great after!

Danikm151 · 13/11/2025 19:07

I used to love wrapping and did a theme until I had a kid. 🤣

now it’s whatever paper is at hand. Still very neat but deffo half arsed wrap as quick as possible

Peppermintcreamz · 13/11/2025 19:33

I love it, although I don’t think I’m very good at it! Here’s how it has turned out so far. No particular theme but I do love bows 😁

Gift wrap……anyone else enjoy wrapping?
VikingLady · 13/11/2025 19:58

I used to love it. A different paper for each recipient, ribbons or coloured tape, everything in a colour theme, all absolutely perfectly finished off and labelled in a contrasting metallic pen.

Literally no one cared what effort I put in, after my dad died. I hadn’t realised he was the only person who saw it the same way. My kids don’t like things wrapped (ASD), DH doesn’t care and will hand things over in carrier bags, and my friends are broke and stressed and don’t want to exchange gifts.

Moonlightfrog · 13/11/2025 20:42

I am glad to find others that enjoy it too 😊

I usually have a theme, last year I picked different paper for each of the dc. I don’t have many small children to buy for so it’s mainly adults. I think this year I am going to use brown paper or maybe something with a simple print, I have some nice woodland themed tags and various different string and ribbon.

I have always loved wrapping gifts, when I was a child I used to wrap presents for all my dolls and teddies. I love seeing other peoples wrapping too…….for ideas.
