What are you doing for Christmas this week?

Disclaimer - yes I know it’s early, but this is the Christmas Board.

Over the years I’ve worked out a 12 week plan for myself so I can get it all done a little bit at a time. Last week was for reading back over my notes, starting my lists, putting aside money for gift cards (I don’t buy them until December but I put the cash in a card now), and dropping off a bag of unwanted Halloween bits from last year to the charity shop.

This week I have to have the who’s going where conversation so I can get stuck into menu planning. We typically host or visit one set of parents, and then have another family get together on each side too. I need those dates on the calendar so the teens can fit their much more exciting social lives around them.

What will you do for Christmas this week?

I’ve bought two presents for one child, thought of the perfect thing for the other and advised grandparents what they should get.

potato08 · 21/10/2025 17:32

Wrapped a few more gifts, found my stash of Christmas cards, ordered the turkey.
I'm done now for gifts until the dreaded twitch arrives 😬
I did my grocery delivery slot as soon as they opened up.
Got a lot going on up to Christmas so really need to be organised this year 🎄

warmhands · 21/10/2025 17:59

Im doing nothing for xmas same as its been for years I will be on some beach somewhere with a good book.
I`ll come back when all the faff is over.

dontcomeatme · 21/10/2025 18:03

I'm finished for the 2.5yo and started ordering a couple of bits for the 7month old today. I've already got some presents for nieces and nephews hidden in the cupboard. We're having a job weekend so I'll get the spare bags, cards and wrapping paper out of the loft and make a list of what I need vs what I have. We always stock up on Xmas cards and wrapping paper in the January sales 😀

And yet you're on a thread in the Christmas topic?
🙄

Why not.

handsdownthebest · 21/10/2025 18:47

Nothing yet. We’re still on holidays and won’t be back til mid-November.
I’ve never not got it done and I’m hosting and am really looking forward to it

Bit pa to come on a specific Christmas board and bitch about it, but, hey, if that's what floats your boat 🤷

mamagogo1 · 21/10/2025 19:03

Nothing because it’s still October and only just back from my summer holiday. First job is to negotiate with mother dearest over the arrangements, she as always is insisting on doing everything but she’s not a spring chicken now and it’s not just us her kids going, there’s our dps and the adult grandkids and their dp’s! Once that’s established I’ll order the food I’ve managed to persuade her I’ll bring from the butcher and deli in her town.

CharlotteCChapel · 21/10/2025 19:38

Ive bought some spekulaas, and some lebkuchen. Also picked up a couple of salted caramel chocolate "oranges"⁷

TheDenimPoet · 21/10/2025 19:40

I've been trying to get something along with the weekly shop for the last few weeks, so a bottle of wine or a box of chocs, to try and spread the cost a little bit. Today I unexpectedly got a credit card refund for something that happened ages ago which left me with a negative balance, so I went online and bought a couple of gifts with that. It's looking good!

BlueWorkDay · 22/10/2025 09:49

We bought a packet of florentines (M&S).

And then we ate said packet of florentines.

I'm considering it a taste-test.

Quality control is a tough job but someone has to do it!

Only the best quality snacks required at Christmas! Xmas Grin

GameOfJones · 22/10/2025 19:17

I've made the stuffing balls and then also two batches of sausage rolls as I doubled up the stuffing mixture. I've also made the pigs in blankets so they're all safely stashed in the freezer.

I picked up six bottles of wine and fizz in Tesco today because of the 25% off deal. I probably need another six if they do the deal again before Christmas and that should be enough to cover us with hosting etc. I'm trying to spread the cost so am doing things a bit at a time.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/10/2025 19:29

I have 5 litres of Bailey's coming in tomorrow's shop! 😁

I've got about 24 bottles of fizz / wine in the garage from the Sainsbury's 25% off 6 deals recently already.

LatteLady · 22/10/2025 19:37

I have been cutting out and sewing together decorations for my Christmas tree, organised a pre-Christmas high tea with an old friend... am expecting an Advent calendar from the US to arrive this week, plus my Yarn Advent calendar. I have booked my shopping for a few days before Christmas and have been stocking up on batteries. I am on track.

Batteriesoptional · 22/10/2025 20:41

Jumping aboard this thread as I’m in need of joy at the moment. Today I took delivery a box of new decorations picked up from Brand Alley; I now have felt mistletoe, 12 day of Christmas golden tree baubles, an advent nutcracker soldier and Christmas tree lights. I’m also going to go earlier than normal with the tree and decorating the house but think I can hold off 1st December.

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 22/10/2025 20:43

I went through the Christmas cupboard today and made a list of everything I have still to buy.

AmicaNemica · 22/10/2025 20:55

I nipped onto Solstren Green and bought a few nice garland cards, some ribbon, tags and a felt Christmas mouse for the tree.
Last year I went into SG nearer Christmas and it was hell!

caringcarer · 22/10/2025 21:08

I've started getting bits for stockings, I ordered a shaver for foster son, a V shaped pillow and pillowcase for DH in the hope it might reduce his snoring, I've ordered a fleace hoody for eldest foster son, smoke grey jeans and slippers for MiL. Friday I have 10 percent off my shop at Lidl so I'll be picking up shower gel, deodorant and anything else I spot for stockings.

Taurielwasntinthebook · 22/10/2025 21:26

Just finished off my Dunelm Christmas tree gifts. ✔️ Managed to get lots of lovely art supplies for one and wooden cars and mega blocks for the other.

I’m about halfway through DD’s advent calendar fillers. And I think I have enough to fill DGD’s.

And just ordered DH’s Ralph Lauren with a good deal on Boots as well as using Everup to get cash back ✔️

SkinnyOatFlatWhiteForMePlease · 23/10/2025 19:43

I utilised the boots 4 for 2 offer in store today and got four BYOMA sets for the Christmas appeal then went to primark and got 4 packs of fluffy socks, 4 make up headbands and reusable cleansing pad sets plus 4 pairs of pyjamas. I always worry teens are forgotten.
