posting on the Christmas board!

I'm trying to enjoy the summer but it drains my energy and I can’t say I’m sad when it’s over. So just indulging myself today and thinking about the things I am looking forward to, to cheer myself up! feel free to add to the list.

-Bake Off starting. Still love how cosy and calm this show is and I love watching in autumn

-wearing autumn clothes. I struggle with what to wear in summer as my ‘uniform’ is check print skirts, roll necks, tights and boots. Love wearing all my different jumpers and adding scarves and nice coats to outfits

-country walks are nicer when it’s cold, less people about, less flies, less sweaty and ending with a roast in a nice pub with a fire going is a perfect way to spend a Sunday

-strictly starting. I don’t even watch it all the way through but it signals the countdown to Christmas

-reading, candles on and not feeling the pressure to be outside for the sake of it

-the festive nights out and the chance to dress up a bit!

-fancy cheese, baileys & mince pies… yum!

Spending a month making the Christmas cake and watching my kids and husband destroy it in an afternoon 😂

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 17/07/2025 17:45

Christmas baking. Reading Nigel Slater. Fairy lights.

TheEndlessNight · 17/07/2025 18:18

What a lovely thread 🥰 getting all cosy with the log fire on a glass of red wine and a good book. Or my absolutely favourite Christmas thing... having a Sherry whilst decorating the Christmas tree 🎄 and listening to Bing Crosby (am 40 🫣)

ProudCoralBear · 17/07/2025 20:44

I love this thread. I’m just looking forward to dark night and fairy lights, candles, frosty mornings. I can’t wait

AdoraBell · 17/07/2025 20:45

Both DDs being home.

bettydavieseyes · 17/07/2025 20:55

Love this. I'm looking forward to closing the windows in the evening, I live near Heathrow and have plane noise interrupting all my programs at the moment, i have to put subtitles on, that and next doors dog 🙄 yes to cooler walks and wearing autumn clothes, it's too hot to wear my jewelry too! I'm sick of sweating and eating badly because I'm too hot to cook or chop things up. My grass is brown from all the heat. I have mosquito bites even though I wear jungle formula. I'm so done already with summer. It's not yet the school holidays but I can't wait for autumn new uniforms and sending my 2 school again! Cosy soup making, cardigans and boiling oranges and cinnamon for a homemade air freshener! Slippers, blankets on the sofa, dark at 6 and looking forward to xmas!

spookysoul · 17/07/2025 21:25

Thinking about stuff like this gives me butterflies, I can’t wait! Jumpers, scarves, boots, dark nights, autumn leaves, all things pumpkin spice, autumn scented diffusers, candles, horror movie marathons at Halloween, Christmas decorations! I’ve just bought myself a pair of fur lined DMs that I’m desperate to wear.
I’m a moody cynical asshole in the summer but I turn into a proper basic bitch in the autumn 😆 pumpkin spice lattes at the ready!

XmasCrumble · 17/07/2025 22:43

Oh I love all these and glad it’s not just me! And yes, how could I forget the fairy lights! 😍

Ooh what a lovely thread! I can’t wait for autumn and Christmas time. I’ve bought a stack load of vintage glass baubles this year and can’t wait to see them on the tree with my vintage style multicoloured lights 🥰
love a cosy night with the fire on, lamps lighting the house, candles burning and lots of festive activities with the kids

Dozymoo42 · 17/07/2025 23:04

Oh my gosh I am looking forward to everything everyone has mentioned!!!
I always feel as though I am weird for not enjoying summer but I am on countdown til we hit September!
Darker nights ,candles, hot chocolate, Sunday roasts with cake and custard for afters 😊 And of course the big count down to Christmas 🎄

I love the planning Xmas Grin

We (DH, DD and I) are going away for a weekend in December . We went on a Christmas Market Cruise last year which was lovely , chance to dress up for the cold, wander about Bruges , dress up for dinner .
Then actual Christmas is more relaxed,. my DC are adults so we don;t get woken up at 5am now !

We've booked our theatre trip in London , we'll go shopping -because it's a Tradition. Most things will be online but it's essential to do a trip to Bluewater , not at the weekends though , madness .

DD and I have tickets to "Inside Number 9- Stage/Fright ......so excited Xmas Grin

I'll bake some Cinnamon Buns Paul Hollywood recipe . No cakes as no-one eats it . Mince pies from Sainsbury bakery .

No tree , baubles or flame candles due to the cats m but some decorations, LED candles and those tiny lights .
And the Dec 1st Box for DS and DD ......yes it is A Thing , along with Christmas bedding, loo roll and straws .

ITSSSSCHRISTMASSS · 18/07/2025 12:07

Everything about Christmas, my dds love the Christmas buzz the house is full of songs and Christmas jokes. Decorating the house, school events, carol services, looking through shops, dark nights, fire burning, houses sparkling, the days leading up to Christmas is just the 5 of us building up our Christmas traditions. Each year we add a new Christmas themed print to a Christmas photo wall. It starts with one of DH and I pregnant with our oldest and moves through the years of our DDs growing up. I love it all!

Oh yes ! Just can't wait on getting the Elf on the Shelf out again !!!

Actually this is true :)

Dd works in a local school ( TA in Early Years ) and has done it for the last 3 years, the elves are increasing :)

I too now work in the local school and between us and another lady, we run the after school club so this will now give dd the time to get the elf ready for the next day.

Number 4 will be arriving this year. We have 7 in total so by the time the original children reach year 6 all the elves will have arrived.

' our ' eves are good and kind, no pranks.

We have white / black / asian / male and female and even one that could be gay.

and if anyone knows where I can find an Asian female one, I will be seriously delighted.

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 18/07/2025 12:22

On a more serious note, we do enjoy watching Bake Off !

SlatternIsMyMiddleName · 18/07/2025 22:11

My largest boards on Pinterest are 1. Christmas 2. Halloween 3. Autumn and 4. Winter.

i much prefer the end of the year.

TheEndlessNight · 19/07/2025 02:15

Sorry @OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon Elf on the shelf makes me shudder. We have two and they are kept in a box within a box. Honestly I've had nightmares and everything about them 🤣

I work on a farm where people with LD and MH issues come for day services. It’s been lovely working there this summer, outside in the sun. However I caught myself thinking yesterday how amazing it will be in Autumn. We have an orchard with 750 apple trees in it and we pick and press the apple for juice and cider, grow our own pumpkins for sale and do lots of Halloween bits. I’m so excited that I want the rest of the summer to hurry up now! After that we move on to Christmas events and craft and I can’t wait for those too!

Sounds lovely , I always wanted to go to Tulleys Farm for their Hallowe'en and Christmas events , it looks about 90 minutes drive , but we never got round to it !

DC are grown up now so missed the boat .

First day of the school summer hols here and I'm really now switched off from summer. As far as I'm concerned, it's nearly August which means it's almost autumn. It's so dark that I've lit a cheap n cheerful Christmas candle in the house and I'm loving it. Even just the smell from blowing out the match flame made me get a little frisson of excitement.

I've just ordered some autumn and winter brown leather biker boots because I usually leave it too late and I wanted some nice ones to wear with some new dresses.

I'm also currently making things for our scarecrow festival in september so my brain is automatically switched on to pumkins and autumnal themes. Very soon I'll be starting on the Christmas stock, so candles and soaps with winter scents. Lovely!

Waves to Piscofrisco 👋

Looking forward to

Absolutely cannot wait! Roll on September, Halloween then Christmas. Visiting the amazing garden centre with all the lovely Christmassy stuff. Lighting candles. Blankets over the settee. Strictly starting. No kids screaming outside. No flies. No insufferable heat. Utter bliss

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/07/2025 14:13

Costco start bringing in their Christmas ( or "Holidays as they call it) stock in Sept about two weeks after the DC go back . It's all gone by December though .

HomeSense/TKMaxx is another early birds shop , I love their Christmas and Hallowe'en stock

I used to look forward to the Lakeland Limited catalogue through the post in Sept .

September is mellow , I watch the animals -( cats now , used to be the guinea-pigs) get themselves furred up and chubby for winter .

Whingeing to DH about the cold at night and he "doesn't feel it" but I put the winter bedding on , he can push the duvet off him if he wants .

Buying jumpers

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/07/2025 14:18

I also do my DC Dec 1st Boxes ( don't judge) and buy their Christmas chocolate , see if there's anything nice or new out there
They don;t do the chocolate advent calendars now which is a shame but one less this wasted ( they still eat the chocolate but when they remember not one a day )

I have my Christmas Notebook ( fake filo-o-fax) to list things I want /bought/to buy/ to do/don;t buy / what;s been planned etc

The 'ber months, have always been my favourite time of year. But I'm hoping this will be the best ever. We're due to complete on our new house on the 1st (all being well 🙏🏻)
We've worked so hard for this move.
The new house has a huge bay window in the lounge - I'm finally going to fulfil my dream of a Christmas tree in a bay window!! I'm actually planning on buying a new one to mark the occasion. Christmas is also extra special as my DD's birthday is also at this time. I'm going to make sure it's the best ever for us all, because we bloody deserve it!
It's the best. I'm looking forward to hopefully enjoying our new garden over the school holidays, but summer's over for me, the second my DH's birthday is out of the way in mid September 😅

minitigs · 19/07/2025 15:04

I also do a 'December 1st/Christmas' box for DD.
Never seen the point in Christmas Eve boxes, when they are about to get a stocking/sack and presents the next day.
I love collecting bits for her box. It's normally new Christmas pj's, books, her elf and his welcome message, maybe sticker books and/or colouring books, and other craft things to do in the lead up.

How lovely for your family!

I have a bay window and love sitting my Christmas tree there so I can definitely understand your excitement!

We are in the middle of a house renovation having our attic converted so I am hoping to be all done for August then we can get everywhere decorated and nice ready for “ber” months 🥰
