What to ask for for Christmas?

I know it's July but I can always hear the family members "what does DH want for Christmas", "what do you want for Christmas"? I honest don't know for myself and my birthday is in December too so I don't know for my birthday either? Any ideas

Tbh I think once you've reached the point where you can't think of a single thing you or DH need or want, it's time to talk about giving up on the gift exchange. I know that doesn't help you, but it cuts out so much stress trying to think of what to get for everyone else, never mind stressing over what you might want.

CharlotteStreetW1 · 15/07/2025 08:11

I ask for JL vouchers (to go with the ones we get from work) so that I can treat myself to some expensive nonsense I could never otherwise justify. Over the years, I've bought a Le Pliage bag which has earned its living over and over, a Kate Spade bag (which hasn't 😬), Chanel and Dior nail varnish, designer sunglasses, Clarins mascara etc etc etc.

NoDuckyDucksGiven · 15/07/2025 08:14

Oh that is a good shout actually. It still feels special for the giver since it's more upmarket, and you can go in every so often and get something as and when you want or need it.

Do you have a pet? My 21st present was a beautiful painting of our dog on a pendant. It’s one of the loveliest gifts I have ever been given.

Unfortunately we don't as she is in uni and I am away with work so there's no one to look after them

Rather than gifts, DH and I treat ourselves to a nice day/meal out or weekend away then just a token gift to open. Somewhere nice you wouldn't go just any weekend.
Foy DD's 21st I would go for a nice piece of jewellery

stayathomer · 15/07/2025 12:45

I got a voucher for a spa experience and a hairdressers (both people apologised for the amounts but actually I got a massage and a blow dry on the same day and it felt like the best day ever!!)

Boots voucher

A lovely body scrub or cream?

fluffy slippers or a bath robe?

A book?

posh gloves?

ErrolTheDragon · 15/07/2025 13:07

I usually ask DH for an item of garden weaponry such as loppers or a hori hori. I think I’m due some new secateurs this year.

hereforthecraic · 15/07/2025 19:55

For 21st, Tiffany necklace?

Darkling1 · 05/08/2025 12:59

I tend to keep a list of things that I like throughout the year. If I still really want them around Christmas time, then I’ll ask for a couple of them.

If I don’t keep the list, I’m likely to forget!

I do normally but me and DH have gotten to the point where we don't need anything, any little things we buy through the year. This year we have decided to do a nice meal rather than gifts.

Still needs held for DD 21st!!!!

21st is nice and special age though- so you could get something like proper jewellery that’s classic, diamond stud earrings, a watch, or work handbag if shes in final year.

stample · 05/08/2025 20:19

for us it would be
artwork
meal vouchers or Amazon vouchers
games console or accessories
kids bedding (or something they will get use out of not necessarily something they will grow out of quickly)

one year we genuinely asked for house bits to help us out with out new house, as we moved just before christmas.
parents got us a crockery set and in laws got us new pots and pans. Practical. Something we needed, and wanted!
tbf last year Xmas we got a carpet cleaner as we wanted one…

successful gifts we’ve got other people have been
massage gun
RFID slim wallet
odd ball
pull up bar
sand art moving pic
gruum gift set

Any gigs or concerts she would be interested in attending? You can get her tickets or something from the official store of her favorite artist(s).
Also if you have enough photos of her, you can make a cute birthday slideshow with all of her childhood and teen photos.

Answering your first question, though, I think at this point you might really stop with the gift exchange and plan a short trip instead. Or think of upgraded versions of what you already have, such as fragrance, makeup products, maybe some tech items, etc.

She's already booked 5 concerts but she paid for them herself by saving up. Love the idea of upgrading current products!

Me too. I am after a Haws watering can this year !

NoDuckyDucksGiven · 06/08/2025 10:25

It's getting closer!

I've decided what I'm going to ask for: from DDs I will request some Royal Copenhagen mugs. From DH, a Georg Jensen tea pot. These are the last few things on my long term wish list.

Alternatively, a little tree ornament of their choice from each of my DDs, and a pair of earrings from DH.

FountainofTruth · 06/08/2025 14:17

I've got my birthday in October find it hard when people ask for ideas with christmas so close. I think I'd like the new hotel chocolat velvatiser which is released in September. I used mine loads over the past 5 yrs, but it vanished when we had a new kitchen fitted (I think it accidentally got binned ). And a dreamland faux fur heated throw In Mocha.

Just because it's a significant age doesn't mean you need to spend hundreds of pounds on a gift.

ChiaraMontague · 07/08/2025 18:44

I tend to ask for replacements of things I know I’ll use - cosmetics, skin care, shampoo & conditioner etc - it feels like a double present because I get something I’ll use and the additional gift of not having to buy it myself for a few months. I’d like vouchers for hair and beauty treatments but not sure if my usual places do them.

DH and I are also going down the experience route, a spa day in the run up to Christmas sounds amazing and we’ll exchange token presents on the day (like a T-shirt or pyjamas)

mumsiemoo2 · 07/08/2025 19:48

My husband and I are the same, we usually ask for simple bits like nice gin, or our favourite chocolate. My mum still buys my favourite perfume each Christmas which is ideal.

as a joint gift, we have asked for meal / cinema vouchers (babysitting) for date nights

or something for the house, like nice new bedding.

im a cosy kinda girl so always love new socks, slippers and pjs too !

SunnyPrague · 07/08/2025 20:20

21st present for your daughter:
A ‘good’ handbag?
Jewellery?
or a trip somewhere amazing?

You:
Posh bubble bath/ hand cream/ hair mask

CharlotteCChapel · 20/08/2025 19:48

This year I want a leaky space blob tshirt iykyk, and a Rocky one (not stallone)

SerendipityDiamond · 22/08/2025 22:13

My list would be:

Good gardening gloves
Bobbi Brown Facebase
Jo Malone perfume
Tony’s chocolate bar
Voucher for a head and neck massage
Nice wine
Turtledoves fingerless gloves

My dd (22) loves vintage jewellery.
