What have you bought your 14 year old daughters?

I realise I am officially now ‘uncool’… not that I ever was! I don’t want to waste money on things that aren’t really ‘in’.
Are Adanola sweatshirts still in or old hat? If so which one? Uggs… cool or uncool?
In terms of style are there any influencers that I should be following?
Help?! & links very much appreciated. I literally have bought her nothing other than a few stocking fillers!

Sorry, didn't mean to quote PP

Oreyt · 20/12/2024 07:32

I bought dd 14 uggs for her bday. But she only ever wears trainers.

leia24 · 20/12/2024 07:34

Yes to uggs and adanola

She's got an Adanola tracksuit, tasman uggs, a kaiia tracksuit, some iets frans joggers and tops (cool in the dance world apparently). Tickets for Olivia rodrigo and tate mcrae. Charlotte tilbury makeup, I think mascara, eyeliner, filter, blush and lip kit, a miss dior perfume, new Adidas campuses, a new dance costume that she didn't need as she has a million, new shiny black crocs, some byoma skincare

MavisPennies · 20/12/2024 07:38

Billie eilish tickets
Jelly cat soft toy
CD player
Signed JVB CD
Sky high mascara
La niege bronzer
Face roller
Billie eilish CD
Chocolate orange
Ear rings

MavisPennies · 20/12/2024 07:39

Also wide legged Adidas tracksuit bottoms

ShiftySquirrel · 20/12/2024 07:42

I have 13 and 15yo DDs. This year has been the trickiest so far.

They're still want lots of "bits" but also have an eye on more expensive things so it's a mix this year. Budget is about £150 per child, which does not go far!

Youngest has hair straighteners, white fox hoody, PJs and crafting bits and lights for her room. Also a January birthday...

Eldest has Lego (requested - instead of gazelles!), white fox hoody, PJs, some skin care stuff and books.

Oreyt · 20/12/2024 07:43

@Passthecake30

Wow, reading these I’m glads my 15yr old isn’t into clothes or fashion!

We can't help what are kids are into. I wouldn't know what to get dds if they didn't like clothes or beauty products.

Oreyt · 20/12/2024 07:47

@Loselocket

As you say they have been popular for years but now they are especially so. DDs 12 and 14 only asked for one this year. Maybe it's a Tik Tok thing?

XelaM · 20/12/2024 08:03

Loselocket · 19/12/2024 22:23

Why are they all wanting jellycats all of a sudden? I know this has always been a popular brand and I’m sure some will comment saying their DD has got one every year for Christmas but I’ve never seen so many on lists for this age group. What ones is it? My kids have asked for them too but I can’t bring myself to pay £30 for a teddy!

Yes, I wondered this too! It's the first year my daughter asked for a Jellycat. I don't see anything special in them over a normal plush toy. 🧸 Must be some TikTok hype.

My daughter also has almost all the stuff mentioned on this thread.

chillimice · 20/12/2024 08:05

I doubt these are boarding/private school kids (mine isn't) and I've seen Charlotte tilbury on lists for much younger children but this age group are much more discerning and would appreciate that it's special and expensive.

DD14 is getting

Hoodie and leg warmers (H&M)
Ribbon laces for doc martens
Jellycat snowball (she's delighted it's actually cool to like JC having LOVED JC for years)
Benefit mascara (this is a treat! But bored of finding mine missing)
SDJ body spray
Socking: ELF lip stuff, camera film, replacement phone leads/powepack, cute Asian snacks, book)

She would also love fluffy socks, candles, art stuff or Lego flowers

ThatKhakiMoose · 20/12/2024 05:06

Dare I say it, such amazing and expensive products seem to be a bit wasted on children! The Simple range is more suited to that age group, I think. And the likes of Tilbury make-up is just sooo expensive for kids. Plus, they're going to get sticker shock as young adults when they realise how much this stuff costs when you're paying your own way!

Completely agree.

@XelaM
The mini perfume sounds fabulous
Can you post a link. DD would love perfume but I had a whiff at the sol de Janeiro and was not impressed.

For DD17 the main present is driving lessons for which she is also paying some amount
I have got her a stocking and a fake oodie, drink me chai latte, Philip Kingsley minis, a head band and some fancy bathroom toothbrush holder

Lookfantastic had a festive mini perfumes set of luxury brands and they also gave you a £55 voucher for perfume, but unfortunately I waited too long and it got sold out (it could be back in stock though if you're lucky). So I had to buy the mini perfumes individually, which is much more expensive. Here are a few of the ones I bought:

https://www.directcosmetics.com//black-opium-eau-de-parfum-neon-mini-7-5ml-ysl-yvessaintlaurent-p5987/s5987

https://www.directcosmetics.com//212-heroes-forever-young-for-her-eau-de-parfum-mini-7ml-gwp-carolina-herrera-p5408/s5408

The mini Miss Dior and J'adore I got from the Mobilefragrance shop, but it looks like they closed their orders until after Christmas, so ebay or facebook marketplace are the only options I think. I got Scandal off ebay. Superdrug and Boots have cute inexpensive perfume sets as well though (Ariana Grande, Versace etc). They come in the cute mini bottle versions of the bigger bottles, which is the main thing for my daughter 🥶

My daughter also doesn't like the smell of Sol de Janeiero although she says 68 is better than the other sprays and she has that one.

Black Opium Eau de Parfum Neon Mini 7.5ml YSL YvesSaintLaurent

It's good to see your never too cool for a jellycat 🥰

Shoopstoop · 20/12/2024 03:05

In my forties and I can’t afford half this shit (for me) 💀 was convinced I was spoiling my kids and I am but at least now I know others are doing a far more thorough job of it. Hoping these are boarding school darlings and not normal kids though. If not the ante has been upped too far.

My child certainly does not attend private school but it’s Christmas and I have the spare pounds to up the ante.

I have no idea, it just appeared on my daughter’s list! Her mates have asked for one too…

Iv ended up getting her two as they had both in stock on John Lewis and I couldn’t decide which one

She got this one and the same bear but he has Xmas pjs on instead 😂

An Essentials hoodie, a projector so she can create a cinema in her room, a polaroid camera, a throw for her sofa with cushions, some satin pyjamas, cosy socks, lip gloss, body mist. A few other bits and pieces. These were all things she asked for.

RainyDayCoffee · 20/12/2024 15:58

@XelaM
Thanks for the links. Too late now for Christmas but I shall try to remember for her birthday.
Xx

Feellikeafailurenow · 20/12/2024 16:02

My daughter is 14 & is somewhere in between all the others on here. Into make up but not overly & no skin care (i’ve never used much, never had many spots & got decent skin at 40 so not pushing that) & i don’t allow fake tan or highlights (wants for her 15th) also a bit geeky though & loves reading & plays sports.

i said do a list for me to choose from (she also likes surprises) & she put calvin klein jeans, nomination bracelet, adidas campus & vixtoria secret pjs. She’s vegetarian so not into uggs but most of her friends are getting them or have them & i feel a bit better seeing some of the replies on here as it’s similar to her group. She too has randomly mentioned jellycats 🤷‍♀️

i got her the trainers, pjs, bracelet & a few charms but not the jeans as thats too risky - i’ll give her some momey & she can chose / order / try on / return. I’ve her a pandora charm &
earrings. Some perfume she likes, laniege lip bits, a jellycat (bunny) couple of books, straightner accesories (heat spray, mat) then stocking bits from lush, fluffy socks, mascrara, costa syrups & reuseable cup) & few other bits.

There are serums in several of the teen ranges.

It's just marketing to make you 'want' stuff. They really don't need it even if they suffer from acne, in which case they need medicated products not commercial, off the shelf, seen on TikTok stuff. HTH.

MinistryofThyme · 20/12/2024 17:53

Imagine getting a new iPhone and then all the other stuff besides! Bloody hell. Just because you can afford it doesn’t mean you should…

Itsaswelltime · 20/12/2024 18:01

We have no cash so DD has some new slippers, a giant (about 10cm. diameter) chocolate coin and a lip balm. The slippers and lip balm come from Normal (like an Action type discount shop, don’t know if it exists in U.K. yet) so not designer or coveted name brands.

She’ll also have some leggings for sport in the post Christmas sales.

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 20/12/2024 18:07

My 13yo is getting

Taylor Swift cardigan
Charlotte Tilbury contour wand
A Jellycat
Fluffy socks
Mini brands
Perfume
VS body pray

Other small bits and pieces

She is desperate for Miss Dior perfume but that will have to wait. The one I got was at duty free after our holiday - she smelled it and preferred to to Miss Dior (and it was way cheaper)

NotSmallButFunSize · 20/12/2024 18:28

Adults and children don’t need a lot of things but they still want them. It’s Christmas so parents buy things that kids don’t need. HTH.
