I realise I am officially now ‘uncool’… not that I ever was! I don’t want to waste money on things that aren’t really ‘in’.
Are Adanola sweatshirts still in or old hat? If so which one? Uggs… cool or uncool?
In terms of style are there any influencers that I should be following?
Help?! & links very much appreciated. I literally have bought her nothing other than a few stocking fillers!

OP posts:

Not my DD but teenage relative told me her Christmas list the other day.

Jellycat keyring
make up - glossier
perfume / spray - sol de Janeiro
Rhodes phone case
Primark vouchers

Peaceandquietandacuppa · 19/12/2024 21:32

Oh and Pandora! Looking at these replies it’s literally all the same stuff, how funny 🤣

DesiccatedCoconut · 19/12/2024 21:50

Flippin' heck. My 14 year old is so far off being interested in make up and fashion. I don't think she has any idea who Charlotte Tilbury even is! Should I be worried???

She's getting...
Hamilton book by Lin-Manuel Miranda (after seeing it twice this year and becoming obsessed)
Stranger Things-themed Squishmallow
Stranger Things-themed t-shirt
Rick Riordan book from Percy Jackson-adjacent series
Hamilton-themed tote bag and pencil case
Board game
Kind of puzzle-solving book
Phone case
Earrings from Materia Rica
Macrame beginners set
Couple of Peanuts comic strip books
I will let her buy and download a Switch game of her choice on Christmas Day

I'll pick up a few other bits for stocking tomorrow...chocolate, possibly a Pandora charm and a Lego something or other, though my wallet is starting to protest...🙁

Loselocket · 19/12/2024 22:23

Why are they all wanting jellycats all of a sudden? I know this has always been a popular brand and I’m sure some will comment saying their DD has got one every year for Christmas but I’ve never seen so many on lists for this age group. What ones is it? My kids have asked for them too but I can’t bring myself to pay £30 for a teddy!

Badknitter · 19/12/2024 23:22

Mine is getting
Billie Eilish hoodie
various perfumes as hasn’t picked a favourite yet
various books
stick on nails in a variety of lengths and colours
make up
they had a fossil advent calendar as well

last year was mammoth teeth fossils and Iron Maiden tickets

Mamaghanouch · 19/12/2024 23:45

Littlemisscapable · 19/12/2024 00:33

These are all very lucky girls!!! My dd is getting some of the stuff from these lists..budget about 200 though..

Yes my heart sinks at most of the items on these lists. Mine are younger (older primary) and not so clued on trends. I imagine that will change when they get on sociAl media?

SassK · 20/12/2024 00:03

I've ordered my daughter a jellycat pup (thanks to this thread 🙈😂). I chose RM next day, so hopefully it'll arrive in time.

Lucky 13- and 14-year-olds, getting luxury brand beauty products like Clarins and Tilbury! I had to wait until I was in my mid-to-late twenties for stuff like that. As a teen, it was Body Shop and Avon all the way!

In my forties and I can’t afford half this shit (for me) 💀 was convinced I was spoiling my kids and I am but at least now I know others are doing a far more thorough job of it. Hoping these are boarding school darlings and not normal kids though. If not the ante has been upped too far.

TickingAlongNicely · 20/12/2024 03:42

My 13.5yos list...

  • hedwig "oodie" (from Tesco)
  • Harry potter mystery wand
  • hufflepuff travel cup
  • sorting hat squishmallow
  • Boulderball (a cross between a climbing trainer and puzzle)
  • sports leggings
  • lighter hiking backpack (for daytime)
  • calligraphy set
  • double bedding
  • lego
  • board game

This is from family, not just us. No interest in make up, or clothes outside of comfort.

Plenty of other gis like her at school, although plenty with the brands etc as well.

Natsku · 20/12/2024 04:16

My DD is very nearly 14 and she's made it clear she only wants money and chocolates for Christmas, so she can use the money to buy the clothes she wants and not risk me buying the wrong thing. Seems sensible to me. My parents are also giving her money instead of a present.

I have bought her some long socks though, but I know she was planning to buy them herself once she got her money, and a t-shirt I know she'll find amusing.
Oh and she did ask for Just Dance for the switch so I bought that.

Dare I say it, such amazing and expensive products seem to be a bit wasted on children! The Simple range is more suited to that age group, I think. And the likes of Tilbury make-up is just sooo expensive for kids. Plus, they're going to get sticker shock as young adults when they realise how much this stuff costs when you're paying your own way!
