Anyone else starting to panic?

Deliveries are taking ages to arrive - just had an update for one for my DD2 that it may arrive between 24-27/12! I ordered it 2 weeks ago.

Not done any treat shopping properly yet, still have to ice the cake, not bought wrapping paper/tags nor written a single Christmas card.

I still have to buy for my Dad, brother and DH. I hate buying for men as it’s same old same old - jumper/whiskey/socks/chocolates. Can’t muster up the energy.

At least decorations/trees are up but I’m probably the least organised I’ve ever been.

Anyone else? Or is everyone here on the poncetastic thread and all done?!

I have bought my DH main gift TWICE and it hasn't arrived (originally bought over a month ago so plenty of time). No one responding to emails and its the waste of time thats bothersome as most things will be at risk of not arriving in time now.

I have ordered a 3rd one now but a smaller cheaper version today still panicking that won't come and its saying it could ship any time between now and the bloody 20th and its not even the one I wanted + things are selling out and prices have now shot up. I'm just annoyed at this point.

Nope, no tree or decorations, only half of people bought for, haven't started on stockings for the kids, no idea about food, husband threatened me with physical violence yesterday, so leaving him ASAP, don't even know where we'll be on Xmas day. Heaps of work to do, absolutely exhausted. Might have to write off this xmas completely. Feel like a terrible mum and a complete failure as a wife and everything else.

Hope you are okay. Tensions can sometimes run a bit high at this time of year. Maybe he can leave instead of you if there are long standing issues? 🌺

For the first time in my adult life (and I'm 74 next week) all my presents are wrapped and under the tree.

It's quite amazing what possible death may do to you 😂. That's light hearted by the way 😁.

I’m moving house so haven’t had the time to be organized. I made a huge leap forward going to one large shop and being decisive. I think online searching, ordering and tracking was taking us more mental energy than the hour in the shop did.

This may be a light bulb moment - you're so right!

Time40 · 13/12/2024 22:08

I can't seem to get myself together to think about it yet. I've done nothing. The Christmas plan (where we would be spending it and who with) only came together yesterday.

RubyRedBow · 13/12/2024 22:25

I said to my friend the dread of how much I need to do over the next week is setting in.

One of DDs main presents has been returned to sender after Yodel had it three weeks. It took me ages to find stock in the first place 🤯

Gowlett · 13/12/2024 22:40

Meanwhile, men are at the pub having a laugh. Not worrying.

Saw loads of them in Town today, just enjoying Christmas…

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 13/12/2024 22:43

Wrapped my last 2 prezzies today. Tbh op it’s the most unorganised I’ve ever been over Christmas. Usually done beginning of December so I can enjoy the month.

TurkeyDinosaurs2 · 13/12/2024 22:45

I've never understood the need to wrap presents weeks before Xmas. Normally I wrap presents a couple of days before.
Each to their own I suppose.

SilverDoe · 14/12/2024 07:28

I have 3 kids, my partner and a few family members to wrap for. Kids have quite a few presents each; if I leave it to a couple of days before Christmas, I'll be wrapping well into the small hours of Christmas Eve/Day.

Who needs that when they've got kids to see to and a huge meal to cook!

I did used to leave wrapping (which is why I know I'd be up wrapping till 3am on the day) but quickly realised it's not worth it. It's very much a task that can be done in advance.

If everyone was grown and getting one or two presents I would maybe leave it, but for most people with kids it's not viable or preferable.

Not a single present bought, not a single sheet of wrapping paper, no cards, no tree up, no decorations up.

literally the worst procrastinator 😢

I had this with one of my DPs presents 😞 difficult to source niche volume, volume 2 released this year. Ordered them both, was messed about for ages with volume 1, eventually was told parcel has been lost and looks like I wouldn't get either of them. Now eventually Vol 2 has been dispatched, but Vol 1 is not in stock anywhere at all, has to be ordered direct from publisher, so he won't be getting it but will get the second part 😫

I was so pleased to have found them too, dammit.

Behindthethymes · 14/12/2024 07:34

I was always super organised, until my df died taking my Christmas mojo with him. I’ve dragged myself through two Christmases. This year, I’m not missing him as acutely, but we’ve been beset by a run of bugs, and I’m just behind. I’d feel behind anyway compared to old me who had most of the dinner cooked and frozen in November and was chilling in December, but I’m really falling behind now.
I’m looking forward to St Stephen’s Day when it won’t matter anymore!

DustyLee123 · 14/12/2024 07:36

I’ve ordered random things and bunged them in the loft, so I’m not sure how much I’ve actually got. I’m busy at work next week so no time to shop more. Hopefully the Tesco delivery will be complete , if not I’m stuffed. Roll on Boxing Day!

You will be okay 💪💖

My mum never put the tree up and stuff until we broke up for Christmas holidays like 3 days before Christmas 😅

It was a crazy exciting furore and we all loved it, it will be fine! Don't beat yourself up about it.

Nolegusta · 14/12/2024 07:40

Our christmas is very low key, in fact it mostly always was, even when DS was little. We didn't ever do santa, so no ridiculous expectations or last minute asking for things that we couldn't get. We live remotely so gift orders were made by the end of November, as they do take longer here. Posted gifts to family by end of November too. In-store food shop not much more than normal, with a few added bits here and there. It's not worth stressing over one day.

Simplelobsterhat · 14/12/2024 07:41

I sympathise OP, having similar issues. Again a busy weekend when I could do with the time to get stuff done. And this is only the second year since having kids I work full time, and I haven't yet adjusted to rendering I don't have a day off mid week when kids in school for wrapping etc. I also feel my house needs a really good clean before guest start arriving bit no idea when anything other than a surface clean could possibly happen now. We have a birthday on our house just before Christmas and Christmas guest who usually arrives a few days before Xmas, so essentially I feel I need to be all ready apart from the fresh food click and collect from 21st onwards, because there will be visitors everyday from then, but it's crept up on me that this is the last weekend before then.

I think I'm going to have a lot of late nights this week...

One thing I am planning to do is take my cards to sit and write in the car while ds does sport today - would that be an option for football for you OP?

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 14/12/2024 07:43

I know this doesn't help you now OP but i always go buy wrapping paper, tags and boxes of cards in January, they are on sale and I'm then ready for next Christmas so one less thing to think about doing

I absolutely love this idea. We have a big Asda near us and I was thinking last time I went there, you could definitely just knock everything out in one go - there's food, toys, clothes, home stuff, stocking fillers, literally everything you need in one store.

notacooldad · 14/12/2024 07:48

We did the decorations last night.
The only present I've bought is tbe secret santa.
I'm not panicking though.
I'm not relying on deliveries.
I dont put pressure on myself for things ike icing cakes.
Dh will do the food shopping next weekend and I'll do the present shopping today and on Monday.
Just keep it simple. No need to stress. Christmas isn't about rushing round like a maniac.

Minihero · 14/12/2024 09:50

I'm laid up with bronchitis. All plans out the window. Shopping done but everything everywhere and nothing wrapped. It'll happen eventually!

mumtotwo11 · 14/12/2024 09:58

I was on track .... gifts bought and wrapped. Food mostly in, just need fresh stuff.

I'm not panicking but my dad was taken into hospital with chest pains (mild heart attack) on Monday - is eating for a couple of procedures but no bed available at the hospital they need to transfer him to.

Fil is being a bit of a pain saying he doesn't want to stay over now (they normally do) so DH will have to collect him and MIL on Xmas day and take them back.

My own dd is disabled and currently going through a bad spell which I thought she'd be over by now but isn't.

Feel just a bit like I CBA now 😢

2chocolateoranges · 14/12/2024 10:06

I was beginning to panic however got wrapping paper, sweets, wine and pyjamas along with my food shop and yesterday I blitzed Christmas shopping, I went after work and got everything I needed, was determined I wasn’t coming home u til it was finished! Took 3 hours but that’s it, things I’ve ordered for delivery are collection from stores as was worried they wouldn’t arrive at my home in time.

Threewheeler1 · 14/12/2024 10:27

@Prettydisgustingactually
I've also done nothing. Dragged Xmas decs out of loft yesterday. Will put a tree up later.
Have no presents, not a sausage, and no idea what to get anyone.
Nobody has any idea what they want either, so we might just be going unbelievably low key this year. It's very appealing right now!
I'll need to go to the supermarket next week at some point to get (all the) food, a dawn raid type thing, otherwise I'll probably melt in the aisles.
I feel as though I've hit a wall this year.

@jumphigh24
You're not a failure, not by any stretch, you're doing the right thing.
Christmas can wait, there's always next year and hopefully it'll be so much better for you.
Good luck, stay safe and look after yourself xxx

And to all PP's having a tough time, hoping life improves soon xxx

Aposterhasnoname · 14/12/2024 10:55

Not to be smug, but everything is bought and wrapped and in the kids sacks, (we have four identical ones so two hung up, to be replaced by the two full ones), all the food is in the freezer and booze in the booze cupboard/wine fridge. The only thing left is fresh fruit and veg and we get that free from work, so it’s all good.

Ok, I admit it, I am smug.
