Good thermal mug recommendations

deeeyewhy · 21/11/2024 09:31

I need a decent thermal mug that keeps coffee properly hot for a minimum of 2-3 hours.
It must also be 100% leakproof so I can bung it in my bag and have no risk of a lid flipping open when I'm walking along.
Bonus if it comes in pretty colours / designs. Approx 300ml capacity.

I have two of these, one for home (football mum days) and one for the office.
They keep things roasting. If I pour tea straight from a boiled kettle int this, it's ~60 to 90 mins before its drinkable. Fabulous cup that is worth the price tag, and lots of colour options.

You commented about needing 100% leak proof. I would say it's pretty reliable and has a firm closure system and a sealed rim... but I don't think I'd ever be completely comfortable throwing any kind of travel cup into my bag and trusting there would be zero leakage. I wouldn't throw this into the midst of my back pack but I am totally happy to put it in the side pocket, or the side of my car door etc

I’m also looking for one. Currently I use a traditional thermos but the cup is so tiny it annoys me. It would have to be totally leakproof too, I’ve already got several good ones that aren’t.

I have one that keeps drinks hot for over 5 hours. It's a Tefal.

My Contigo brand one is a few years old but would buy something from them again if it broke. Seems pretty leak proof and keeps things warm for hours. Lid is dishwasher safe but not the cup. It's similar to this www.mycontigo.com/products/thermal-mugs/glaze-twistseal-travel-mug-470-ml/SAP_2095392.html

Came on to say Contigo, but mine are different. They are completely leakproof and great for commuting, as well as watching football. Keeps the drink hot for ages, and works well in summer too for cold drinks. What I like best is that lock system, and I can use it one handed (just press the button, rather than have to flip open a lid/ turn the lid to open.

Forgot to say- mine regularly gets bunged into my bag at work and it doesn't leak.

We have these. Completely leakproof. Store it upside down, on its side, whatever. Keeps hot stuff hot. It's perfect.

Hmmm I've had a Contigo West Loop Autoseal before but it barely keeps drinks hot for 1.5-2 hrs. I wonder if it was a bit faulty somehow?

The best I've even used was a Thermos 'Direct Drink' one. Almost too good as the coffee was still too hot to drink 4-5 hours later and drinkable up to 8+ hours after it was filled. The lid was a bit cumbersome though.

Just bought a contigo on your recommendations thankyou .

NWnature · 21/11/2024 15:51

I always recommend YETI- keeps stuff boiling for ages.

I think it must have been faulty. My experience with the west loop is like yours with the Direct Drink flask- almost keeps drinks too hot if I want to drink them soon after making it in the flask!

I had a Contigo Autoseal which was also not much cop, but the Contigo Autoseal is much better. It stays hot for about 4 if you put your drink into cold, or 6 if you warm the mug up first. I love it so much I replaced it immediately when I lost it. It's often on offer in Tesco for £10.

Ooh - I might try one of these instead then. Thank you!

I have this, it's great for watching kids football and when I'm on shift. It was recommended to me

PigInADuvet · 21/11/2024 20:55

I use Yeti, I've made a coffee before, forgotten to take it to work, come home 10 hours later and it's still drinkable. The lid I have isn't leak proof but you can get different ones.

Runskiyoga · 21/11/2024 21:42

These are my go to. Totally leak proof and stays scorching hot there's a tall one (small flask size with a sipping mouthpiece) and this short one ZOJIRUSHI SM-KHE36NL Stainless Steel Mug, 12-Ounce, Champagne Gold https://amzn.eu/d/9185cEn

I used to swear by Contigo but last year found that the flasks weren't keeping drinks hot enough for long enough.

I bought a Stanley Aerolight travel mug, 350ml capacity. Completely leak proof and keeps drinks properly hot for hours.

Onlyvisiting · 21/11/2024 22:01

Bodum work for me

ticktock19 · 21/11/2024 22:11

I've got a Stanley quick flip 0.45ml bottle..I've been seriously impressed at how long it keeps drinks hot and cold and thankfully (due to my clumsiness) is absolutely leakproof.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 21/11/2024 22:14

I've had one of these for about 10 years. I can put it upside down in my laptop bag and be confident it won't leak. It also keeps my coffee hot for hours. I actually make it an hour or so before I want to drink it as it's too hot otherwise

Contigo. Best thermal mug I've ever had.

HarrisObviously · 21/11/2024 23:24

My Contico mug keep drinks really hot for hours and it's never leaked.

LonelyBones · 22/11/2024 00:01

For those with a Contigo thats not keeping their drinks hot, if its bought within a year and you have proof of purchase, Contigo will replace it for free.

I had this, loved it, 100% the one I'd trust in my bed to be leakproof out of all the travel mugs I've had, BUT I couldn't clean the lid properly and I eventually chucked it in desperation when it started growing unpleasant slime inside the mechanism that I just couldn't get out 😬

As I don't currently need mine to stay hot for long nor be leakproof I am currently using the cheap bog standard stainless steel type. I sometimes carry extra hot water in a thermos if I am on a long drive.
