Ideas for duck themed Christmas

I would like ideas on how to make this Christmas duck themed. Why you ask?

I decided I would (based on an idea I saw here) hide some small rubber ducks around the house on Christmas day and the kids get £1 for each one they find. Just a way to make giving them cash a bit silly and take a bit longer.

The kids asked for a hint for one of their presents and I made a quacking sound. They seem very excited by this and sem to think I will be doing a hook a duck.

So now I am thinking I could make all the ways they get their presents duck themed.

Its just me and 2 kids age 10 and 14. Their presents are smaller and more expensive every year! We don't have any other family and I want Christmas to be fun activites as well as opening presents. We all love escape rooms and puzzles.

So I wondered if anyone else had any ideas for how to fun ways to find their presents and/or ways to make Christmas duck themed.

So far the only extra ideas I have is a duck shaped Pinata and a treasure hunt with duck themed clues. Could dress the dogs up as ducks I suppose?

So oh wise Mumsnetters - how can I make Christmas duck themed?

Duck eggs for breakfast
Pin the beak on the duck
Make blue jelly for pudding and put ducks on
Make a duck competition using modelling balloons
Decorate duck biscuits
Wear duck earrings
Watch Howard the duck or duck tales
Make blue cocktails and put a mini duck in
Play board games but swap the pieces for ducks

You obviously need a duck on the top of the Christmas tree instead of a star 😂

cheesypinwheel · 27/10/2024 08:50

Have a competition to see who can draw the best duck with their eyes closed. I would buy a special notebook for it and get everyone who visits the house during December to do one and sign it (people you know, not Tesco delivery person etc 😆). My grandmother had a 'drawings of pigs made with eyes shut' book that practically everyone she'd ever met had added to, I have absolutely no idea why!

Amazon have duck advent calendars too, very reasonable and will get them into the duck theme earlier......

I’d go one up from the bath and go for a tropical island type paddling pool/drinks cooler for the ducks - bet you can get them in the end of summer sale still, just about.

Duck shaped cookie cutter and decorate gingerbread ducks on Christmas Eve?

this book from the works looks good?

Add a couple of ducks into the duck hunt which have forfeits on them, eg 10 star jumps or something.

There is a company called Just Geek that do Tubbz. They're ducks in different characters from TV, films and gaming etc and make cute presents. My DC is getting some FNAF ones for Christmas and maybe some Resident Evil ones too.
Sorry I can't do a link

The ducks will have their initials on. Only 'thier' duck wins them the money.

DS2 would have found everyone's ducks and hidden those of his siblings 😂 Make sure you allow for this.

Thommasina · 27/10/2024 09:36

I find Christmas stressful enough without bringing ducks into it but hopefully you'll have a good day. I think I'd just do a duck hunt and one duck themed cake or something. Maybe a funky rubber duck in their stockings.

Rubber duck advent calendar?

I would also make the word 'duck' a banned word for the day with a consequence jar of silly things they have to do if they say it. Like quack for 30 seconds or something. But we really like being silly 😂 might not suit everyone!

Sethera · 27/10/2024 09:46

There are a couple of duck-themed strategy games 'Abducktion' and 'Deduckto' that you could check out if you like escape rooms and that kind of thing.

AdaColeman · 27/10/2024 09:54

Duck decorations eg strings of duck silhouettes, mobiles with ducks.

Prize for the best origami duck.

Go out to a park and feed the ducks.

Duck snacks....duck samosas, duck spring rolls, duck pâté or rillettes, M&S probably do all of these.

Singleandproud · 27/10/2024 09:58

After dinner walk to go feed the ducks

Was only a matter of time before the thread fell fowl of the pun lovers

Baker Ross do rubber ducks dressed as Christmas characters ( 🎅 , ⛄️ etc) as well as sone cute ones that look as though they got tangled in Christmas lights.

Biscuiteers ( always expensive though 😬) do personalised duck biscuits ( like a big gingerbread cookie) in a gift box under their new baby gift section. Their biscuits are expensive but tastier than most bought iced biscuits.

Calliopespa · 27/10/2024 10:25

And chococo do a chocolate duck , again boxed for gifting.
