Christmas jigsaw

Once a year, because I don't have time the rest of the year, I treat myself to a challenging but not impossible Christmas jigsaw.

This is my only indulgence whilst doing most for all. So I am very keen to keep up the chill time with Baileys I have carved out.

The image is important.

Ones that have made me most happy are:
Northern lights over a Christmas icy log cabin scene
Nordic houses with ice skating in front
Snow trees with houses with inviting lights on

Santa, twee at a minimum.

The ones I can see this year so far are either
Too easy
Too twee

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

If that was 1000 pieces it would have been in the online basket

Forest Lights - Hobbycraft or have a look on Amazon at the Vermont Christmas Company range .

That is a contender 😀

Another thought (if you have a high quality picture of a jigsaw puzzle you want to do) is to get a custom puzzle. I've used this website before and was really impressed by the puzzle. I know Ravensburger do custom puzzles too but haven't tried it myself because it didn't work for the aspect ratio of the picture I wanted, so used PuzzleYou instead. There are always discount codes floating around.

I’ve got a lot of wentworth jigsaw puzzles from Vinted and also there is a Facebook group where people sell and swap them. 1000 piece ones come up less often but it’s more like £20-25 for the 250 pieces, £40-45 for the 500 pieces, so you can get several of those.
I find a 250 wentworth would take me two sittings of a couple of hours fyi. But I’m not a jigsaw master!

I love the Wentworth puzzles but I always have the Extra Difficult ones due to the piece shapes:

I really like the Wentworth difficult castle one but it's £75 for 500 hundred pieces, plus 2 bottles of baileys

So for me, and it's hard but a decision has to be made, unlikely to be this evening, perhaps I have a baileys later and view them under constructing conditions

But I think it's either the Brooklyn bridge fairy lights and just accept the extra 500 pieces

Or these two

It's never this difficult

One teen home better pretend to be doing something productive!

I love a Christmas jigsaw, it’s become my personal Christmas tradition. I usually opt for Ravensburger, 1000 piece.

We should keep this thread going to share ideas and show completed puzzles! (Mine are in the loft atm so can’t photo them yet.)

Look at www.blockart.co.uk for horrificly difficult jigsaws featuring maps...but not very Christmas themed I'm afraid!!!!

Has to be Christmas this one, I settle with fairy lights on the tree, baileys in a coffee, elvis belting out his, quite substantial, christmas catalogue, and the jigsaw needs to be fairy lights/snow/ice scene to fit in.

But I am keeping all challenging jigsaw links bookmarked

I have hung laundry, put a ton of clean dry away, made pizzas, cleared kitchen, apart from this evening's last crockery.

Almost ready to plug laptop back in, after a couple of glasses of smooth red, and explain my jigsaw dilemma in depth to H, until he loses the will to live and says "get what you like"

And balance will be restored 😃

I have a brand new one I don't want. It's not opened and it is a Christmas scene. If you're interested let me know.

There are some lovely people on Mumsnet - and you are one of them!

frozendaisy · 04/10/2024 21:08

A discussion was had.

Tape measure was required for outside measurements (to fit on jigsaw construction board with drawers to sort pieces), taking into account all aspects, as it will become a Christmas decoration, and people may join in.

This has been purchased.

But I might get another as back up or for next year. And happy to gaze at everyone else's choices. It borders on a fetish!

A separate thread for a similar process for the Christmas crackers then?

Loving the Eeboo puzzles - they are always brightly coloured and shiny. A big choice of puzzles too.
