Hi all. So for the first time ever I will be hosting Christmas Day dinner in my home.

And to that end, I've decided to give my house a massive clean, declutter & reorganisation (very badly needed!).

I've worked out there are 16 weekends to Christmas (well actually 17 but I want to use the last one for food prep) so I'm dividing my house into 16 sections & going to spend one day every weekend on a different section.

I'm starting this weekend. Would anyone like to join?

A heap of paper admin, shredding removal this morning, x2 annual car insurances, bit early but that's ticked off as well, things in garden just drying out on this lovely bonus warm dry day, so will be shortly wrapped in case there isn't another opportunity, but loosely wrapped so can use if need be.

The kitchen has had a pile, getting smaller but still a pile, of admin and outstandings and the goal is to get the whole lot sorted, shredded, or filed by the end of the month. It will create a smooth, easy to navigate or locate admin palace, then we can get on with just the fun jobs, when I say fun I include the ones that make "wow" differences. Admin only really does this mentally, which is great but you need a bit of physically as well.

@70isaLimitNotaTarget
We've seen the play that goes wrong in the west end, and Peter pan goes wrong last October locally...SO funny 😁

swampwitch0 · 20/09/2025 17:57

Having a big clear out...
It's amazing what useless bits of paper, Chargers for old tech, old phones etc you find when you start emptying cupboards!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 20/09/2025 19:29

Ah but it's nice when you find something you lost . Or a £2 coin ,

I found loads of biros and those chunky marker pens
Vacuumed and cleaned the filters
Shoved DH in the attic with my summer clothes and two suitcases

I have Mince Pies for later Xmas Grin

swampwitch0 · 21/09/2025 12:40

Very happy with my new oak chest 😊
It looks fab

swampwitch0 · 21/09/2025 15:06

Someone on fn has collected my old unit.
Need to drop sine things to dds old school.
Not much cleaning done today, but 4 loads of washing are on the line 😊👗🧦🩳👕👖

DH is going to book a removal for some things (in the garage and loft ) sort of things we cannot throw out and won;t fit in the car .

I need to send him up in the attic this week to get my winter clothes down (jumpers , coats , cord leggings ) decide what I;m keeping and sort some things for Charity Shop .

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 22/09/2025 08:05

Just been through DS clothes to see what still fits. Had to buy him new sweat pants because his ankles had fallen out with the old ones. Going to take the grown out of clothes to a charity shop today. All good condition.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/09/2025 09:18

Recycled two bags of clothes that weren't Charity Shop worthy ( ie I would wear them but I wouldn't expect anyone to pay money for them )

swampwitch0 · 24/09/2025 09:28

Well, I think I have a chest infection 😷
Off to the drs later ☹️
I did 2 loads of washing yesterday and I need to make a cake today but that will be all I do.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 24/09/2025 13:40

www Swamp that sounds rough !

Can you swerve the cake making on health grounds ?

swampwitch0 · 24/09/2025 14:02

Got a course of antibiotics.
Cake batter done and on oven...its for dds birthday 🎂
It's just a plain vanilla sponge, so not much effort required

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/09/2025 01:13

What do y'all do with old duvet covers/sheets/pillowcases ?
Definitely not charity shop worthy but I don;t think the recycling places will take them .Sometimes one of the kerbside pick ups will do , I know they won;t take pillows or duvets .

NoWordForFluffy · 27/09/2025 06:39

We throw them in those charity collection hubs (not sure what word to use; those metal collection boxes in supermarket car parks!) as the charities will have easy access to rag recycling where we don't!

Locally to me, animal rescues like them

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/09/2025 00:38

Bag to the Charity Shop.
I am inspired to tidy the pantry tomorrow , I need to check what I have and go through dates .

My fridge is full up with bowls of various things and Alpro milk so I'm not disturbing that . ( F/F was cleaned/defrosted a week back )
Not a Christmas Fridge by any description,.

Looks like it could be good laundry weather so hopefully I can get some done .

swampwitch0 · 29/09/2025 15:34

Well, not much happening here cleaning wise.
I'm still coughing 💊😷
I need to clean the bathroom before dds bf arrives on Friday.
I've ironed the shirts I forgot to do yesterday 😬
That's about it.
I might book the oven in for a clean again

autumnleaves8888 · 29/09/2025 17:10

@swampwitch0 hope you feel better soon ! I need to continue with my jobs , sorting out more old toys . General clean of the house and clean all the carpets . Our garden is just being finished at the moment , once it's done I'll carry on x

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 29/09/2025 19:08

Are your abx doing their work swampwitch ?
You should be feeling the benefit but a cough takes ages to shrug off .

My DD has painful sinuses bless her , she's had painkillers and dinner and now snoozing .
I will be decluttering this week:

Some nightwear
Maybe some bedding

Slow progress but we'll get there

swampwitch0 · 29/09/2025 20:39

I think the 💊 are helping, but the catarrh and cough are awful ☹️
Utterly fed up, and, as you say, this could last weeks ☹️

swampwitch0 · 04/10/2025 20:29

I cleaned the bathroom yesterday, hoovered and mopped up and down
Today has mostly been washing and trying to get it dry!
Tomorrow will be shirt ironing
Stripping beds and washing bedding on monday
I'm shattered so don't feel like doing any of it 😬

Coatsoff42 · 04/10/2025 20:47

This is the best motivation I’ve ever had for tidying and decluttering @Alsonification
thank you!
I’ve been decluttering a little bit every weekend for the last three weekends, and I’m actually sticking to it whereas usually I get overwhelmed and give up.
Three cupboards today and the drawer of doom in the kitchen, very satisfying.

swampwitch0 · 04/10/2025 22:00

I've replaced 2 wastepaper bins as the old ones were too small/damaged.
I've taken loads of old linens/tablecloths etc to dd's school art department, an old overlooked and some beads.
Sadly, they couldn't take all the books - I really need to sort them all out - but I need whoever takes them to collect 😬

IDareSay · 05/10/2025 10:29

Week ending:
21/09 En suite ✅
28/09 Dressing room ✅
05/10 Master bedroom ✅
All three areas now 'bottomed' so just need maintenance until Christmas.

12/10 Bathroom
19/10 Spare room
26/10 Hallway, stairs and landing, incl airing cupboard
02/11 Study
09/11 Sitting room
16/11 Utility room
23/11Larder
30/11 Kitchen part one
07/12 Kitchen part two

Plasterer did not turn up when promised, so DH chasing him. It's really holding us up with other decorating as it will be a messy job.

Keep thinking I can't find more stuff to declutter yet I do! Will get some more things on Vinted today.
