Before we all forget what we actually would like next year, what was your favourite gift that you received?

I am very pleased with the very naice bottle of fino sherry I received from a naice looking posh West End booze shop, from my Secret Santa. I am looking forward to opening that when the weather is a little warmer.

I am also going to cheat and add another one, as it is my birthday today, and I am thrilled with the Penhaligon scent library my husband gave me for that too.

I’ve seen this kind of thing advertised on instagram and been tempted - but how do you transfer/extract the acorn once it’s sprouted? Do you need to break the vase?

It’s not too difficult to gently pull all the roots through. We did one a few years back and we now have a mini oak tree in a pot! We will need to think about planting it in the ground at some point.

Ah thanks! That’s good. I didn’t fancy the idea of breaking the vase or damaging the roots to get the acorn out.

A beautiful pearl pendant necklace and my worst present was a big tub of Rose body butter from the Body Shop which is a huge disappointment as I used to love their body butters.

I got loads of lovely things, but my joint favourites are a vintage brooch from my husband (just costume jewellery but I love it) and a specialist cake tin and accompanying recipe book from my mom - that's a joint gift for me and my talented daughters and has already led to her producing some great cake!

Toss up between my back massage cushion and the goose neck iPad holder that can fasten to a table so i don't need to hold it or sit staring down at it straining my neck.

I got 2 beautiful presents and I ruined both of them within 2 days. A gorgeous merino wool jumper dress which I wore Christmas Day, threw in the washing machine the following day and now it wouldn't fit my dog. A beautiful cashmere jumper which I wore on Stephens day, leaned over to turn off the gas fire and melted the arm of it on a candle. I am obviously not wired correctly to own nice things.

and for @Kangarude

I bought myself Lego Tiny Plants. They look cool, were fun to make and passed the sofa sitting time at the inlaws nicely!

@elQuintoConyo That’s a lovely present to receive.

My favourites were Skechers slippers (old lady emoticon) and some unusual vintage silver earrings

DominiqueBernard · 04/01/2024 18:27

A lovely necklace from DH.

Was treated to some absolutely amazing gifts, I've been very lucky, but actually the most used so far is a vinyl record player from my youngest DS.

I've been playing music every night... re-living memories and kitchen disco dancing!

Reliving my youth.. ordering my old Britannia Music Club tapes on vinyl ... bit more than 99p nowadays 🙄😅

... and he said "Mum, I never have to buy you candles again"!!!!!
Kids.. 🙄

educatingrati · 04/01/2024 18:28

Hat and gloves the kids gave me. Especially useful given the sudden dip in temperature.

fedupwithbeinghot · 04/01/2024 18:28

A Nirvana spa voucher. I've already booked my visit!

Thank you @longtompot Flowers

I just went to enjoy a bath with the Lush Christmas set I got (not overly keen on the overpowering scents but I do love bath products) but when I went to unwrap it I discovered it was from last Christmas and made in Sept 22. I did wonder why there wasn’t an overpowering smell coming from the box. I’m using it anyway but other than making the water pink it did little else. No fizz, not much smell. Oh well!

PeskyPotato · 04/01/2024 22:15

Slippers!

Google Nancy Birtwhistle shrunken jumper. There's a video of how to loosen up the fibres and stretch it back!

DeadButDelicious · 04/01/2024 22:24

I got a really nice version of The Wicker Man on blu ray and a coffee table style book about the making of the film. It's between that and all The Exorcist bits I got, it was the 50th anniversary this year so I got a book that came out and a fancy version of the film on blu ray.

Next year I have my eye on a Hammer Horror book that's coming out.

TrickyD · 06/01/2024 21:24

DS2 and his delightful DP spent a weekend in the town I know so well from my childhood and youth.

They spotted and bought a watercolour of the Castle and the path and the wooded area below it. I was so thrilled when I opened it, I couldn’t have had a nicer present.

What they don’t know, nor does DH, that when I was 17, I adored a certain boy. Finally he suggested we go for a walk around the castle. We found a bench to sit on and he said “Can I kiss you, Tricky? “. We were so polite in those days - I am 79 now. The watercolour is a view of castle and ‘our’ path.

Though so many years have passed with marriages and children and grandchildren, I still have a warm place in my heart for that boy.

Didn't get anything

I'm sorry. I got one present, which was nice as it was from my nephew. But I get (almost) what you're feeling.
