It's my step dad's birthday at the beginning of January, so I'd love to know what the present hugs were for the men in your life?

Inspiration gratefully recieved!

My partner- Patrick Stewart's autobiography- nearly all the things he got he asked for but he seems particularly pleased with this.
A s'mores kit

My dad was pleased with baklava as an alternative to chocolate

Eekmystro · 27/12/2023 08:11

Set of mini single malt whisky’s for a father who likes whisky but isn’t a big drinker.

smooshraspberry · 27/12/2023 12:35

There must be more!

I got my dad a hamper with cheese, wine and Christmas cake. He seemed to like it.

My dh is notoriously difficult to buy for. I have done things like a pizza oven, various very nice items of clothing, books, games. All of them either get returned if they were expensive or he doesn't use them and they eventually get decluttered. I switched to only buying him edible / consumable stuff years ago and he announced this year that he didn't want that either. I got him an ice scraper for his car 😂. He's happy with that and even happier that I haven't got him anything else. My brother is the same. We don't do gifts for each other now as he really doesn't want anything. Sorry if that seems unhelpful but it is just how men in my family seem to be!

Very niche (and not his only gift) - a rubber cable protector for the cables he has lying across the garage floor so he doesn’t trip over them. Another year, it was a very small fire extinguisher for the car.

Always get DH something to do.

This year it's 2 x tickets to an inflatable assault course

Giggorata · 27/12/2023 13:33

I paid for his new tyres and a Private Eye subscription. He's a pain to buy for and at least I knew these were things he needed/wanted.

Needmorelego · 27/12/2023 13:35

Airfix kit and some beard oil stuff (which he bought himself - I bought my pressy myself too 😂)

BurntOrange · 27/12/2023 13:45

Amazon Alexa car kit

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 27/12/2023 13:47

A big Lego car-kit, of a car that he watched during the Le Mans 24 race.

mnahmnah · 27/12/2023 13:47

Ring doorbell and a Tassimo machine.

Cotswoldbee · 27/12/2023 13:54

Have my (late) father an annual subscription to MMM magazine (Motorcaravan & Motorhome Monthly).
OH has the same as we are also MoHo enthusiasts.

Gardeningtime · 27/12/2023 13:55

Amongst other things, I got him an indoor golf putting thing, it is actually really nice quality, you get cheaper and more expensive. We are fortunate to have a play room/second sitting room, so it’s out In there, and this seems the gift he is most pleased with.

secomd fave is a heated Gillet. Again you can get cheaper or more expensive, he can use it for golf or gardening.

My DH was very pleased with his Japanese whisky and my Dad who was also with us at Christmas was quite envious of it! I also bought DH the David Mitchell 'Unruly' book which my Dad has said he wants to read afterwards!

Also a cheese-making kit and 'cheesy feet' cheese board went down very well!

Aparecium · 27/12/2023 14:28

Dh had tried on a Berghaus Claggan jacket and loved it, but felt he couldn't justify getting it as he already has something vaguely similar. So I got it for him - and he hasn't taken it off except to go to bed! Dh is a hillwalker, so the jacket is also a practical gift.

Another very successful present was the House of Games Question Smash book. For the past 48h we have been constantly ambushed by a Claggan-wearing man cheerfully challenging us with bonkers questions.

Aparecium · 27/12/2023 14:31

One of the most sick gifts in recent years has been a wet-shaving kit: 'badger' brush with stand, and shaving soap in a box. Dh thought I was mad, but within a day he was totally converted from his squirty can stuff. Apparently it feels really nice to lather your face up with a brush.

Aparecium · 27/12/2023 14:32

Successful, not sick!

(Or maybe I'm really down with the yoof, and sick is the right word?)

gooddayruby · 27/12/2023 14:41

An M&S oodie for their many camping trips, beer making kit

Rocknrollstar · 27/12/2023 15:11

Box of cheeses
Mixed box of bottles of beer (can be non-alcoholic)
Weather station
Good quality wellingtons
Bird box with camera that links to tv/mobile phone
Bat detector - was the most successful present ever

timtam23 · 27/12/2023 16:09

Headtorch beanie (the light is LED, USB-rechargeable and can be removed to wash the hat) this went down really well for what I thought was a very simple and unexciting gift
