What have you got for your dad?

I'm trying to find something to add to my dad's gifts - hot water bottle and hot chocolate selection atm. Have been considering a decent travel mug (he likes to go to a local ish park for a walk & pops in the cafe for a cuppa to drink on his walk).

I'm not really coming up with much else 🙈 he tends to buy what he wants but put back the hot water bottle he was going to buy the other week, and wouldn't buy himself fancier hot chocolates.

What have you all got your dad? Maybe something will inspire me 🤔 I did see someone mention pine cones that light up different colours when burned, that I might get for his log burner 🤷‍♀️

A bottle of whiskey and some squirrel food.

Last year I got my 82 yr old dad a heated throw. He loves it and uses it all the time. This year I've got him heated airer, and I think he'll be chuffed with that.

I used to struggle for my dad too, usually it was a nice brushed cotton country style shirt. For his last Christmas (he was really really poorly) I got a wooden crate, used DH burner tool thing and personalised it and filled it with country/wildlife and gardening mags, a new lovely mug, lots of bird food, bird feed, bird house... you get the idea. It sounds naff but it was really lovely when finished and he was over the moon with it.

What a lovely gift. So much love and thought went into that.

If he likes walks then scarf/hat/gloves, and the cup you suggested.

I bought my Dad all sorts of things, got a bit carried away. One was a random find on here, the endoscopy kit off Amazon - it may or may not come in useful, but he’s always helping me and my siblings with jobs around the house and cars.

Might he like a hamper? I’ve made up these for my dad in the past, with a selection of nice things I know he will enjoy rather than a pre-made one.

A theragun!

@waffleyversatile1 what a lovely comment, thank you ☺️ since he's not been with us I donate to The National Trust each Christmas to plant a tree in his memory, I think he'd be happy with that even if he was still here.

Dads are notoriously hard to buy for but yet mum is a different story altogether, I actually have to reign myself in on her presents.

BestIsWest · 21/12/2023 08:25

Just seconding the hori hori if he likes the garden. I got one last year and I love it.

ImTheGoat · 21/12/2023 08:35

Chutneys from the market for mine as he loves the stuff, plus a couple of books he asked for and a box of chocolates. For DH (who's also a man of a certain age so might be helpful) a pair of those North Face tent slippers, a bottle of whisky from his favourite Scottish Island, a Scrabble set in a language he's learning, and a 3 pairs of trousers as he never buys clothes for himself and was down to his last 2 pairs.

Chewbecca · 21/12/2023 08:41

My Dad is a nightmare to buy for as well so is getting a voucher if I am not inspired in the next 24 hours. Maybe watching this thread will do that... He wouldn't like anything mentioned so far!
Hates clothes and only reads books from the library. He does enjoy golf but 'has everything he needs for it'.

ChilledToTheBone · 21/12/2023 08:43

Nothing because he is into NOTHING. Ill give him cash.

inappropriateportioncontrol · 21/12/2023 08:46

GoodlifeGlow · 21/12/2023 08:56

A mushroom growing kit! He likes growing his own veg but has never done mushrooms. It’s a good indoor project for the winter when not much else is growing.

CornishPorsche · 21/12/2023 08:58

A new bunnet.

Topbird29 · 21/12/2023 08:59

Fil loves books- so 4 books. And some bits to share with mil - shortbread, gin and nibbles. A sherpa throw went down well last year- singles for him and mil as sit on different chairs. Alcohol free beer selection also went down well - he doesn't drink beer alas much now, but like the taste.

AtillaTheHon · 21/12/2023 09:00

Mine is decluttering his house so doesn't want any more things. I've got him a nice hamper

capgemleopis · 21/12/2023 09:02

A T-shirt in his favourite colour and a voucher for our local Indian restaurant

Bertiesmum3 · 21/12/2023 09:02

I ask my dad for ideas, he always says nothing!
Then he thinks of something and lets me know, usually a big list 🤣
Leather belt
jumper & tie
torch
pedomEter
pen knife

hes a keen baker so one year I bought him a recipe book stand, also got him a voucher for his favourite takeaway and his favourite place for a carvery

snowlady4 · 21/12/2023 09:32

A soup maker! (That he doesn't want!)
An airfryer cook book.
Ryanair voucher.
He's in his seventies.

Roseinbloom20 · 21/12/2023 09:37

His favourite (expensive aftershave) which I got a really good deal on in Boots and also his football teams branded raincoat (also got a good deal on) and I always get him a box of old spice as a joke present so he's sorted! Absolutely love my dad so I'm happy to spend a little bit more on him as he does so much for us

Jk987 · 21/12/2023 09:52

A pair of Sketchers Slip Ins shoes. My Dad can't bend down and touch his feet anymore so I'm hoping this is a good solution!

Mammyloveswine · 21/12/2023 09:59

Ive got my dad a newcastle shirt and a painting of sycamore gap plus his favourite aftershave.
