Can you please help me make a shopping list please? What do you serve with Christmas pudding - I don’t like it and I don’t really know!

Thanks 🎄🎄

Just custard for me !

ApolloandDaphne · 19/12/2023 18:18

Brandy butter, custard or cream. I prefer cream with mine.

tedgran · 19/12/2023 18:19

Brandy butter for me!

NameChangeToday80 · 19/12/2023 18:19

The options are:

Custard
Cream
Brandy butter (or similar)
Brandy sauce (or similar)
Brandy cream (or similar)
Vanilla ice cream

I go for Brandy butter.

I think getting custard + one other option is easily enough.

HippeePrincess · 19/12/2023 18:20

Brandy butter, double cream, brandy cream, vanilla custard, plain white ice cream. Whatever you like!

MintJulia · 19/12/2023 18:22

Cream or ginger ice cream.

bakedpotatoforlunch · 19/12/2023 18:26

I married into a sweet white sauce with Christmas pudding family (many moons ago now) so I armed myself with pot of brandy butter every Christmas Day as that's what I'd been brought up on. I won one or two converts and for my part I grew to appreciate white sauce as a complement to the richness of the pudding.

Nowadays I tend to have a bit of both! 😋

Skykidsspy · 19/12/2023 18:30

Thanks very much. Double cream or single cream? Or both?

Double cream for ds1 and I, brandy butter for DH, spray cream for ds2 (heathen)

I don't understand having custard with it. I've only ever heard of it on MN and it's WRONG.

gotomomo · 19/12/2023 18:37

Double cream is perfect

Double cream is perfect

Yes it is.

LoveTheDarts · 19/12/2023 18:58

Double cream and brandy butter 😋

Chewbecca · 19/12/2023 18:59

Extra thick double cream if possible

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/12/2023 19:07

Home made brandy butter, and cream for those who like it.

Ohmylovejune · 19/12/2023 19:10

Clotted Cream.

ScottBakula · 19/12/2023 19:10

Brandy cream for me .
But make your own , good quality cream , about 500mls and a good slug of brandy ( or rum) and whisk it.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/12/2023 19:15

Brandy butter and double cream. Then, a nap 😴

festivetinseling · 19/12/2023 19:15

Double cream, because that will go with any other desserts just as well. Eg mince pies, fruit salad, chocolate log etc. We offer cream or custard, and then DH makes some custard if anyone wants that. Brandy butter is just one step too far in this house, you really don't need it. the whole meal is rich enough without it. There's normally some vanilla ice cream in the freezer as well, if anybody wants that.

erikbloodaxe · 19/12/2023 19:17

White sauce. Everything else mentioned is just too rich.

Portakalkedi · 19/12/2023 19:22

I like brandy and I love butter, but don't get the appeal of brandy butter on a 25 billion calorie pudding? On a plain chocolate cake or something less sweet maybe. Cream or ice cream provides a contrast.

TurkeyMalarkey · 19/12/2023 20:50

Extra thick double cream!

GettingStuffed · 19/12/2023 22:13

Brandy butter is the only permissible option

jackstini · 19/12/2023 22:19

Thick cream with alcohol in for me

But custard or brandy/rum sauce also perfectly acceptable

And set fire to it!!

Sharpkat · 19/12/2023 22:21

As a family we had rum butter (my dad's side - weirdly Methodists) and brandy cream (my mum's side - fervent Catholics). Am yet to meet a family that had this combination. It was awesome.

DappledThings · 19/12/2023 22:23

I would only have brandy butter. If that wasn't available I'd have it unaccompanied, no other sauce would be acceptable to to me.
