Presents under the tree

Lisa221987 · 09/12/2023 11:07

I love to see presents under the tree! Usually I place our presents under the tree christmas eve night.

Anything that comes from others grandparent's etc is placed under the tree when received.

Interested to see what others do?

On another forum in America a lot of people put presents under the tree once wrapped. I guess it depends on if you have small children that still believe

If we get given gifts just before Christmas, they go under the tree.
Otherwise traditionally (for us) everything gets put out on Christmas Eve.

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 09/12/2023 11:50

My youngest still believes in Santa so the only thing under the tree is gifts from school friends.

Think we've only got one more year of Santa do after that they will go under the tree.

Lifesariotwithspyvspy · 09/12/2023 11:53

We used to put presents under the tree on Christmas Eve night from Santa and then add family presents before lunch on Christmas day.
Now as DC are much older,Santa disappered 20 years ago for the youngest, and we have a puppy who loves paper, they'll be handed out from Chritmas bags this year.

I have fake presents under the tree so it never looks bare and they match the colour scheme of the tree. I just like it to look pretty. Any other presents get added to them. Most presents are handed directly to the children by the giver at other houses. Stocking is for Father Christmas to fill (my youngest child is 17!) and it put up Christmas eve and then they get a sack of presents that come from us but they don't have those under the tree until Christmas morning. Just the way we have always done it.

Under the tree once wrapped.

Father Christmas never brings all the presents. Only some, so family gifts are under the tree.

alloalloallo · 09/12/2023 11:59

All presents under the tree once wrapped/received.

Father Christmas only ever brought a stocking of small presents - colouring stuff, new pants, hair clips, etc. Everything else was from us/grandparents/etc

Bootskates · 09/12/2023 11:59

DD doesn't believe so could get away with putting them under once wrapped but still do it on Christmas Eve. Occasionally have "outgoing" presents for family and friends under there though in the period of time between me wrapping them and taking them to the recipients on the run up to Christmas.

Kendodd · 09/12/2023 12:02

I have a puppy.
Nothing is going under the tree until Christmas eve night when she's in her crate. Grin

SgtJuneAckland · 09/12/2023 12:05

Usually under the tree when wrapped, only stockings come from father Christmas here.. However this year the kitten has already attacked the tree on a daily basis, going to do the first lot of wrapping tonight so we'll see how that goes....

Morred · 09/12/2023 12:08

My cat is weirdly obsessed with wrapping ribbon/twine so anything with that round it has to be hidden away until opening time, or she will sit and chew the ribbon.

SqueakingSnapfish · 09/12/2023 12:11

Nothing under the tree here.
All delivered by Father Christmas, for a brief period when we had left home but before they had grandchildren my parents put presents under the tree. It looked so odd to me.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 09/12/2023 12:18

We've always put the presents under the tree once they are wrapped. For us, Father Christmas only brings the little bits and bobs that go in the stocking. Everything else is from the person who bought it.

CoodleMoodle · 09/12/2023 12:19

We put grown up presents under the tree once wrapped. I put the DC's presents under on Christmas Eve otherwise they'd mither me about them constantly! DD is 9 and fairly sensible, but I don't think even she could resist poking at them. And we won't even talk about 5yo DS...

Tree presents are from family in our house, Santa just does the stockings.

GettingStuffed · 09/12/2023 12:20

We put ours under the tree Christmas eve night. Unfortunately people scout houses to see who's got a big pile under the tree and break in and steal stuff

MrsWidgerysLodger · 09/12/2023 12:20

Santa only does stockings in our house so presents go under the tree as and when wrapped.

mynameiscalypso · 09/12/2023 12:22

Father Christmas presents go in the stockings on Christmas Eve. Wrapped presents from family/us go under the tree once they're wrapped. Which is generally Christmas Eve too.

sep135 · 09/12/2023 12:25

Sorry, not a very festive story but we were burgled last year a couple of days before Christmas. They took every single present under our tree (despite our police-monitored burglar alarm, cars on drive, lights left on and CCTV).

I've always been a bit nervous about a pre Christmas burglary so had left some of our presents for the kids on the top floor under a blanket, not under the tree. That transpired to be a small consolation as there wasn't enough time to replace the other presents. Although my tree looks a bit bare with only a couple of presents underneath it this year.

ForbiddenColour · 09/12/2023 12:25

Presents from family and friends under the tree. Santa presents on the sofa at some point on Christmas Eve.

greengreengrass25 · 09/12/2023 12:28

Always under the tree

greengreengrass25 · 09/12/2023 12:29

You are right about burglars though

housethatbuiltme · 09/12/2023 12:30

All presents under the tree are from us so I put them under the tree bit by bit throughout advent so the pile grows slowly.

I think the tree looks really bare without anything under it.

Nonplusultra · 09/12/2023 20:23

Under the tree, as they’re wrapped, in perfectly coordinated paper which gradually changes to a mismatched hodgepodge as we exchange gifts.

…except for the Santa gifts of course which are delivered by flying sleigh from the North Pole on Christmas Eve.

PurBal · 09/12/2023 20:27

Presents from everyone go under the tree wrapped as soon as received or wrapped. Father Christmas comes on Christmas eve and filled stockings by the fire (was end of bed growing up but I lost that one).

socks1107 · 09/12/2023 20:30

I put presents received under our tree and then gifts from us Christmas Eve (they are 20 and 17 and I still do stockings 😀 and pretend it's Santa even though they know it's not!)

Tinkeytonkoldfruit · 09/12/2023 20:33

Father Christmas only brings stocking presents so all the other presents go under the tree once wrapped.
