What on earth do you buy a 9 year old girl these days ? They all seem to be into skincare and toys and Barbie's are out the window. I'm completely at a loss .

Skincare - really?! I've a just-turned-10yo and, while she'll occasionally put on a bit of eyeshadow for fun or a face mask with her cousins, I can't imagine her or any of her friend being interested in getting skincare products as a Christmas gift. She likes art supplies, decorative bits for her room, books, clothes, Switch games, and the ubiquitous Squishmallows.

DuesToTheDirt · 25/11/2023 11:24

Why all the squishmallows? I'd never heard of them, looked them up and aren't they just a cuddly toy?

hby9628 · 25/11/2023 11:25

Polymer clay bracelet making set. My girls (9&12) love them. They are great for taking out and about too. You can get loads of different sets on Amazon

FionnulaTheCooler · 25/11/2023 11:26

How about a Loungefly mini backpack? There's a few at good prices just now for Black Friday.

hby9628 · 25/11/2023 11:26

3 in 1 creator is great too. The birdhouse set is on offer on the Lego store. I think the dog set was reduced right down on Amazon yesterday

My dd is a bit older at 11 but some things that have gone down well the last few years
Box of facemasks, lip balms, body sprays and lush bath bombs. (a tailor made beauty box like she sees on youtube!)
A loungefly backpack.
Hama beads (well fake version from amazon!)
Bag full of beads to make bracelets - crystals, letters, gummy bears (shein)
Loom bands.
Giant squishmallow for laying on while gaming.
Fake oodie.
Fleecy blankets.
Amazon echo and Spotify subscription.
Milk frother and selection of hot chocolates/marshmallows and syrups.
Crystals - I got a mystery box from etsy and some carved ones from a local shop.
Wireless headphones.
Heartstopper books.
Games - she loves board games.

We have a family playstation and nintendo switch. She prefers the switch and uses it alot to play animal crossing, legend of zelda. We all play super smash bros, mariokart and I've got Mario party this year.

This year its all about Taylor swift so got her some of her merchandise! Plus more of the above!

They are a cuddly toy but also a bedroom accessory. My DDs use them as pillows, cuddle cushions, travel pillows for long car journeys and they're collectible. They are beautifully soft and squishy to lean on/lie on and also fit in the craze for anything ridiculously cute!

A lot of 9-year-olds love Squishmallows - I have 2 daughters and 6 nieces and they seem to be universally loved by all of them!

Not sure what your budget is, but some ideas...
Fake oodie
Cosy blanket
Funky light for room
LED strip lights
Book like Guiness book of records/Weird but true/ Believe it or not
Tie dye kit
Other craft kit - bath bombs/candle maki g/marbling
A few bits from Lush
...or Claire's
Scarf/hat/gloves
Slippers or slipper socks
Make-up/skincare bag with initial on it

I'm going to also add Lego Dots to my list. They tend to have a bit more of a use once built - pen pots, notice boards, photos frames etc.
And a waffle maker!

oh they are more much more than that they are the holy grail of soft toys 😃

WeightoftheWorld · 25/11/2023 12:51

My niece is 8 and she likes Lego, board games, card games like Top Trumps, she's been learning to sew, she likes baking, she recently got her ears pierced so has asked for earrings too...

stargirl1701 · 25/11/2023 13:13

My 9 year old daughter wants a skateboard or a surfboard.

housethatbuiltme · 25/11/2023 13:58

Have 9 year olds ever liked barbie... I grew out of barbie and dolls at 5 year old.

My uncle use to get me cool and unusual board games (limited edition stuff that no one else ever seems to have heard of) around that age and I always thought they where pretty awesome.

coxesorangepippin · 25/11/2023 14:02

These are great, keep em coming!

WrongSwanson · 25/11/2023 14:08

NoCloudsAllowed · 25/11/2023 10:22

That's a bit sad. What about taking her out to theatre/a show?

Why is it sad ?

(Theatre is a good idea though)

WrongSwanson · 25/11/2023 14:12

My daughter doesn't like Barbie's etc any more but does like
-art supplies /colouring books

  • roller skating
  • board games/card games (uno, rhino hero, Scotland yard...)
  • baking (so baking supplies could be a good gift?)
-squishmallows
  • fun bags /water bottles
Susiesue61 · 25/11/2023 14:13

My nieces are 9. I’ve got them Harry Potter squishmallows and one is getting a foot ball shirt, the other is getting a sweatshirt from Next

Parker231 · 25/11/2023 14:15

I wouldn’t have bought a Barbie set for DD at that age as she hated it.
What about a Lego set or electronic building set where she can make robots work or do actions?

cornflower21 · 26/11/2023 08:59

My dd is same age op and it's a real struggle this year tbh.

She still likes Squishmallows, so she's getting two rather big ones

Apart from that she would like to get bean bag, heelys, fluffy blanket, some fluffy pjs, probably some nice jumper and other bits and pieces.

scrambledeggsonrye · 26/11/2023 09:05

Is she into Smiggle? My 8 year old niece is and wants all the associated gear. Also I second the thought about Squishmallows.

scrambledeggsonrye · 26/11/2023 09:09

Also Air-up water bottles are really popular with that rough age group at the moment!
