Help with dd7 craft trolley.

Dd7 doesn’t really play with toys. We think she’s on the asd spectrum. But the one thing she absolutely loves is drawing and crafts. She will literally spend hours doing, she does it before school and after school. She makes books, bookmarks, cards, little love notes to us etc.
iv decided apart from a new iPad, which she also loves but mostly uses it to watch horse videos/ how to draw, I’m going to make her a crafting trolley.

our kitchen table looks like a bombs gone off all the time, the sooner iv cleaned it away she’s there cutting tiny bits of paper up. Drives me insane lol.

so far iv bought this for the trolley. Could you think of other little bits I may have forgotten? It’s only 3 tiers but I was thinking the top one for paper, her pens and pencils. The middle for paint and brushes, maybe stickers?
The bottom for her craft kits, tape, glue etc.

Felt tip pens
Assortment of pencils
Gel pens
Markers
Coloured card
White card
Paper
Scissors
Ruler
Rubber
Paint brushes
Tape dispenser
Washi tape
*stickers
*glue stick
*paint
Small Sewing kit
Small Card making kit

  • is what I need to buy.

thank you!

It looks like you've got a good selection. You've probably got the trolley sorted, but you can get pots and other accessories to hang on those trolleys to give more space, in case you weren't aware.

If you have space... a corkboard to display her work on.

Pencil sharpener and rubber
A mini dustpan and brush for clearing up mess afterwards

TheGruffalochild · 17/11/2023 11:11

A few extras my dd has in hers that you haven't listed yet:

Little pom poms that she glues on things
Googly eyes
Glitter dispenser with different sections
Silly scent pens
Squeezy glue for when a glue stick won't do the job
Posca pens
Stamps and ink sets
Stencils
Foam paint stamps and rollers
A personalized apron

She also loves her Washimals

Indoorvoicesbluey · 17/11/2023 11:15

Really Useful Boxes. You can get them from HobbyCraft too.

Have a look on the Baker Ross website. Loads of lovely crafty bits and pieces!

Norugratsatall · 17/11/2023 13:00

Ah I miss my kids being this age so I could do things like this. To that list, I would add:

Tissue paper
Foam sheets/shapes.
Scrapbooks

NotFastButFurious · 17/11/2023 13:20

A hole punch then she can make tags or gift cards etc.
Maybe some ribbon or that parcel ribbon stuff that curls?
If you've got somewhere to put a string up with mini clothes pegs on, that could be her "gallery" and once it's full you swap things over to replace with new pieces of artwork.

NotFastButFurious · 17/11/2023 13:21

Have you got a Works bookshop locally? They're often good for kids craft supplies, or even poundland and B&M type shops.

Sunshineandgin · 17/11/2023 17:46

A small folding tray table might be a good addition, possibly can hang on the side of the trolley. It would mean she could easily set up her own workspace even if you were busy with other things on the kitchen table or she can move her project off the table onto her tray to keep working on it later instead of having to fully pack it away.

Beads and clear string. We get ours from Temu and all sorts of places. My dds love the bead spinner and clay beads and make bracelets quite a bit. It's very therapeutic.

My girls are 11 and 14 now but in the past they have enjoyed Hama beads a lot and making fairy houses which you can make out of stuff you find on a walk but the essential item is the £5 glue gun from hobbycraft!!! That's my best recommendation.

They also like air drying clay and fimo.

Also we have sone hand made cards for years - just buy blank cards and loads of stickers etc.

We have also done decoupage which is actually super easy for younger children.

Amimaimia · 17/11/2023 19:23

This is a fab gift and I know because I made one for myself!

I bought a trolley to hold lots of things I’d need for looking after my newborn but he’s 6 months now so I’ve taken it back and using it for my crafting!

I’d suggest;

glue dots, patterned paper like for scrapbooking and punch cutters in all sorts of different shapes and sizes. You can also get little vials with different coloured sequins/ mini buttons / gems etc.

Paint pens are great doesn’t have to be Posca, I also love my set of wavy/zig zag scissors!✂️

you can buy “blanks” from
hobbycraft or wherever - coasters/bags/mugs/t-shirts and loads more.

my crafting is based around the seasons so after Christmas I’ll be looking at valentines and Easter so look ahead for anything with hearts/eggs/chicks etc

CurlewKate · 17/11/2023 19:42

Make sure that you get good grown up scissors. Kids ones are useless.
An eyelet punch and coloured eyelets.
Glue pens as well as sticks.
A folding board.
Some very fine marker pens.

Agree with this about the scissors. You can get yellow handled scissors very cheaply in ikea which are proper ones.

MrsWhites · 19/11/2023 17:29

A messy mat to protect whatever table she is using.
Clay beads and bracelet elastic (temu have an amazing selection really cheap and they come in a little box to store beads by colour).
Paint sticks so she can paint without the mess, need to clean up afterwards etc.
Googly eyes and stick on sequin/gems.
PVA glue.
Coloured felt sheets from hobbycraft, only about 50p each.
Some small craft sets, hobby craft have some lovely window charms and paint by numbers.

LunchWithAGruffalo · 19/11/2023 18:15

How about a couple of the children's art frames that can be opened to add,/change the picture easily.

I think ours were from IKEA but I've seen them in several places.

Bin85 · 19/11/2023 18:48

I'd keep the paper and card separately in one of those rainbow tower storage drawers.

LambriniBobinIsleworth · 19/11/2023 18:50

Amazing idea which I'm stealing.
