Xmas gifts for a crotchet-ist

Hi everyone I don’t know if I got the name right but I’m looking for a Christmas gift for my sister who has recently started crotchet again something she really enjoys.

My dad suggested needles or a bag for all her crotchet items. Does anyone have ideas of what’s good to buy or where to buy from?

Thank you for any help!

I suppose it depends on what she likes to make but how about a book on amigurumi? www.amazon.co.uk/amigurumi-Books/s?k=amigurumi&rh=n%3A266239

@EversoDisorganised. I was given the Amour Crochet Hook. Suggested above and I can't stand them. Hence my stating I only use one type of hook. It's so personal so telling a non crotchet person to buy hooks to me is crazy..

I wouldn't get needles - she probably has several different sizes already.
A bag would be good but no recommendations - they're all fine.
I'd like a gift certificate to my local yarn shop or favourite online supplier, or maybe something unusual like an Alpaca yarn place?

Yes, I really like the clover amour ones but literally couldn't use the swing hook, it is a very personal choice.

What sort of things is she crocheting? If she's crocheting blankets and big things that would require different storage etc to if she's crocheting toys and little things.

Wool Warehouse has a wide choice of Attic24 yarn colour packs which are great for beginners. The Sungold crochet-a-long yarn pack goes on sale next week ready for pattern release in early January. That would make a lovely gift for a new crocheter.

As a crocheter, the yarn pack is a fabulous idea 😍

I used to buy from Marriners Yarn because the were the best value I found. 100g DK balls started at 99p and they had a huge range of colours. It looks like their site is being maintained, but keep checking it. I'd like a voucher from there 😃

Marriner Yarns provides high quality yarn, knitting wool and knitting supplies such as our double knit wool. Marriner Yarns is Britain's oldest and, arguably, best loved knitting yarn.

Marriner Yarns is no more, they folded a while ago.

I got my friend a jar full of buttons and notions (we are both mainly knitters but it's fairly universal), my DD helped pick and she was delighted.
My DM lives near Wool Warehouse and is annoyed you can't go in any more!

What!!! 😮
I clearly stocked up far too much during covid, that I had no idea they had folded. That is a shame.

I'm another with a yarn bowl I never use. I'm also fussy over yarn itself to be honest so for me, yes a voucher for somewhere with a big range would be great. I do like the Toft stuff and while it's not my thing normally I'd be chuffed to get a kit as a present (not all of them but anyone who'd got that far would know me well enough to know which ones I'm sure).

How about something like a project bag? It doesn't have to be the type you'd find on Google, though it absolutely could be. My tastes don't marry with a lot of what comes up via a quick search but delving a little deeper there are definitely ideas I like and again, someone who knew me well enough would be able to choose.

I second this! I forgot to mention it in my previous post as I've not been using it for my current project (too many quick colour changes!) When you're crocheting a big section of one colour it's fantastic!

I third it! I've been knitting and crocheting for 40 odd years and it is the best present I have ever given myself..... well maybe the 2nd best after my heated throw 😊. The only downside that I can see is that I can't work from the inside of my Scheepjes Whirl cakes - but it may be easier if the cake is a less tightly wound one.

CrochetBug · 23/11/2023 11:12

I sent my wool genie to the charity shop. I didnt understand how it helped at all. Confused

EversoDisorganised · 23/11/2023 13:14

I can't see how it would help either? But I usually crochet on the sofa or bed and don't have a table in front of me to sit it on. Also tend to change colour frequently.

Houseplanter · 23/11/2023 13:36

The wool genie means you never have to pull yarn off the ball. You just keep crocheting and it comes off the genie at just the right pace.. never tight, never trailing over the floor

Genius.

EversoDisorganised · 23/11/2023 13:41

But where do you put it?

CrochetBug · 23/11/2023 13:48

I pull from the centre of the skein/ cake anyway which is why I didn't find it useful
Plus I often take my crochet out and about.

Houseplanter · 23/11/2023 13:50

Tbf you do need a table/windowsill/shelf close by, and preferably slightly higher than your work.

I also pull from the centre if changing colours often because I hate it rolling around everywhere. Not having to pull on long rows (like blankets) is great though.

EversoDisorganised · 23/11/2023 22:27

I don't think it would work for me then, I often crochet out and about as well as bed/sofa. Good idea otherwise.

TurquoiseThings · 24/11/2023 10:35

I get on perfectly well with the wool genie beside me on the sofa! Different strokes for different folks I guess. It's obviously not for using while crocheting 'out and about' and I only use it when I'm doing a lot with one colour. It works great!
