Xmas gifts for a crotchet-ist

Hi everyone I don’t know if I got the name right but I’m looking for a Christmas gift for my sister who has recently started crotchet again something she really enjoys.

My dad suggested needles or a bag for all her crotchet items. Does anyone have ideas of what’s good to buy or where to buy from?

Thank you for any help!

An ikea trolley for all her supplies.

My 11 year old craft-loving daughter has requested crochet hooks for Xmas. I hadn't expected to pay over £40 though - is it really worth paying so much more for these, and why?

The Scheepjes yarn boxes are beautiful as well & better yarn (in my opinion) than the Attic24 Stylecraft ones. It depends very much what sort of crochet she does though. I like the Scheepjes because I made up my own (baby) blanket design with them, but there are probably too many colours in small balls for bigger projects.

@Morred I agree the Scheepjes boxes are nicer yarn than the SSDK in the Attic24 packs, but the Attic24 packs and patterns are great for new crocheters.

@Scampuss Yes, I've had a couple of the Attic24 packs and they're great. If OP's sister does amiguri or other small projects a Scheepjes box might be just the thing, though.

Very true!

At the end of the day, one can never have too much yarn...

@concernedmumhelp does she already crochet? Because depending on her ability/experience/enthusiasm I'd not buy many/expensive ones

She has done lots of woolcraft clubs at primary school and has made huge quantities of finger knitting and many many pompoms. I got her some knitting stuff last Christmas, though she hasn't specifically made much with it apart from the finger knitting and pompoms. She says she love love loves wool.

Then she only needs a couple to start with.. maybe a 4mm and a 5mm. Hobbycraft own are fine. If you want to buy a 'set' as it's a gift I'd just buy one from Amazon. She's very unlikely to use the very small or very large ones.

Scampuss · 24/11/2023 14:14

Agree, don't bother with a set as she's highly unlikely to use them all. I crochet a lot and the main hooks I use are 3, 3.5, 4 and 5mm. You could get her a 3mm (for 4 ply), a 4mm (for DK) and a 5mm (for Aran) as they'll meet most needs.
