When are you putting up the tree?

I’m much more excited about Christmas this year since DS is getting older and looking forward to it.

I don’t usually put up the tree until around 12th/13th but thinking of maybe doing it earlier this year.

Obviously, I still think it’s very early but want to be prepared so we are going to start getting some new decorations for when the time comes.

So when do you put your tree(s) up?

We used to be 23rd Dec but with DD I now aim for around the 16th/17th. It's up until twelfth night. The position of the tree in our house is awkward so I couldn't deal with the disruption and pine needles any earlier!

End of November, I work in a school and we trim up for the children for 1st December. I wouldn't face doing it otherwise.

MaggieFS · 05/11/2023 08:41

The first weekend of December which is the start of advent.

And it will stay up until 12th night.

Means we get to make the most of it.

FrustatedAgain · 05/11/2023 08:58

Around 1st Dec, we have an artificial tree.
If you have a real tree do you need to do it later so it lasts?

dontforgetme · 05/11/2023 09:15

1st December as I don't work Fridays and be a nice surprise for the kids when they get home from school. I actually can't wait Grin

dontforgetme · 05/11/2023 09:16

@WaitingfortheTardis same here! It's so late this year.

notforonesecond · 05/11/2023 09:26

Last weekend in November but I’d do it earlier if I could get away with it.

It’ll stay up til about the 2nd Jan or something like that.

1st Sunday in December. Last year we lost 2 relatives in quick succession right before Xmas so I didn't even bother with a tree.. just stuck up some lights and a few bits of tinsel. But this year I've bought a posh, new 6ft artificial and a load of vintage baubles and with a 4 year old GC, getting oh so excited, I'm actually looking forward to it forbthe first time since before covid

Mustbethemulledwine · 05/11/2023 09:41

Last Sunday in November usually

Soffii87 · 05/11/2023 09:42

Start of December. The kids enjoy and it’s too much hassle to only have up for a little bit lol

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 05/11/2023 09:46

Around the 12th December because we always have a real tree. We haven't taken the Halloween decorations down yet but will do today. I love Christmas decorations but I don't want them up for 2 months.

Yourebeingtooloud · 05/11/2023 09:50

First or second weekend in December probably. Depends when we’re free. We go to a place where you chop your own tree down so it turns into a bit of an event.

JustACountryMusicGirlInCowboyBoots · 05/11/2023 09:53

Thank you for this thread as it's reminded me to email the garden centre to reserve our trees. The Christmas tree is my favourite part of Christmas prep.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 05/11/2023 09:55

Start to trickle other stuff out from now as it’s quite a lot and much of it is more ‘winter’ than explicitly Christmas. The main tree is last up first week in Dec.

Tisfortired · 05/11/2023 09:59

We get a real one so first weekend in December for us. It’s one of my favourite days of the year, going to pick out the tree and usually let DS choose a new ornament from the garden centre. It’s my youngest first Christmas this year and I can’t wait to see his little face when it’s done 🎄

RoseMartha · 05/11/2023 10:14

Sometime after the 1st December but usually in the first week. I take it down usually on 1st or 2nd Jan.

SomeFiggyPudding · 05/11/2023 10:43

We’re always weekend closest to the 1st December. Can’t wait!

AuntieStella · 05/11/2023 10:47

After a family birthday in mid-December

And we keep it up for the full 12 Days of Christmas (don't like cutting a celebration short!)

Timeforchangeithink · 05/11/2023 10:50

Upon 18th down on 4th. Would rather put up earlier and take down earlier.

Tulipvase · 05/11/2023 10:53

Was Christmas Eve as a child. I put mine up sometime around the 16th ish. Depends when I can face doing battle with the lights. We have a 6/7 ft real tree with approx 1000 lights, I love decorating the tree, except the lights!

Normally 1st December but we'll be away at centre parcs this year so I think I'll put it up before we go so it's nice and festive when we come back!

We’re going the following week, it is the perfect time of year to go!

Ours has just gone up. I’ve never done it this early before, normally it’s some time in December, but we’re with my in laws over Christmas and away for the first week, so I want to enjoy it for as long as I can. And I was treated to some new decorations and didn’t want to wait.

Nineteendays · 05/11/2023 11:29

First December ish. And it will go down before NYE- I don’t like the idea of going into new year with all my Xmas decs still up for some reason!

mondaytosunday · 05/11/2023 11:31

First weekend in December.

noname846 · 05/11/2023 11:34

Ours goes up mid-December and comes down on Twelfth Night (or as close as possible - it somewhat depends on when the council kerbside tree collection is).

I really dislike the trend in recent years to put trees up early and take them down early. It's sad to see trees discarded on the streets in the period between Christmas and New Year!

Aaaaarrgghh · 05/11/2023 07:59

First weekend in December 🎄

Me too! DH and i usually get the decorations out and put the tree up when the kids are I'm bed on the Friday night (big artificial tree that takes an age to set up 🙈) then we decorate the tree with the kids and put up the rest of the decorations on the Saturday
