Christmas tree

I'm looking for an artificial Christmas tree. About 7ft. I'd like one quite bushy but also life like. I've been buying real and the price is creepin up and they haven't been that great in recent years. I've looked at balsam hill but they are out of my budget at the moment.
Any suggestions?

I got mine from balsam hill in the sale a few years back and love it.

Westiegirl3 · 03/11/2023 10:33

I also treated myself to a beautiful tree from Balsam Hill 2 years ago, it's a pure delight and I would totally recommend

RedderThanABeet · 03/11/2023 10:38

Honestly? I would make do with a real tree this year and buy a Balsam Hill one in the sale next year, just keep checking their website. Put it in your calendar to remind you, I did. I bought a BH I think 5 years ago and it is a thing of beauty. It has paid for itself considering the cost of real trees.

chuffachuffchuff · 03/11/2023 11:29

Argh! I'll have a look now. Any recommendations for a BH one??

Next has a few on their website but not sure how they look in real life.

Firsttimecaller · 03/11/2023 11:45

Price-wise Everlands are really nice and a very small step down from Balsam Hill quality but a lot cheaper than BH prices. I got mine 8 years ago and it still looks amazing. Therefore, the price per year so far has been £8.50 and the longer I keep it the better the return.

Broodywuz · 03/11/2023 11:50

I got from Homebase a few years ago, it's huge, i think maybe 8ft (but you can make it slightly taller or shorter) and looks really good. Definitely cost effective over the years, however I absolutely HATE putting it up, genuinely takes a whole evening to get all the branches puffed out and looking good! I get the tree out and set up one day and decorate it the next because i'm so done by the time i get the bloody thing set up!

Morghulis · 03/11/2023 13:43

We got ours from White Stores and it’s really good. We originally looked at Balsam Hill but they were all too wide for the height we wanted.

chuffachuffchuff · 03/11/2023 14:07

Never heard of white stores! I'll have a look

I have a discount code for Balsam Hill 40% off I think

GHEXTRA10

Not tried it but worth a go if you want one.

chuffachuffchuff · 03/11/2023 19:36

@Travelcrazy thank you so much

I know it doesn't help you but my Balsam Hill tree is a thing of beauty- still looks great with kiddos decs ordorning it!

Like others have said , make do until you can get one. Once mine is up I stare at it non-stop throughout the Christmas period. I have a slim Fraser Fir, it's still wide! I actually wanted the nordman but weren't in stock at the time (so my advice for you to wait becomes somewhat redundant 🙈).

Floralnomad · 03/11/2023 21:00

We have 2 Balsam Hill trees and I’ve not seen anything better in any garden centre , JL etc . When you look at the cost over a number of years it’s not too bad .

Amermaidandaman · 03/11/2023 21:24

What is a decent price for a balsam hill tree? I’m looking at the Nordman fir at 7ft and it’s about £550, with sale and discount. Would I be better off waiting for jan or Black Friday or is this as good as prices get?

Floralnomad · 03/11/2023 21:41

We bought ours in July and they were about 40/50 % off , but that was a few years ago .

I'm on Christmas number 6 with mine and it looks as good as new. Hasn't aged aswell. But, if I could buy again I'd get the BH Nordman, it was out of at the time. My Fraser Fir is still Beaut-I-Ful!

Mumaway · 03/11/2023 22:07

I bought a 7ft random one in Tesco January sale 2 yrs ago, had been about 80, bought it a lot less than that and it is amazingly good for the money

Illumicrateme · 03/11/2023 22:47

I highly recommend selecting a pre-lit one. It saves so much time and effort on such a tall tree. I actually got mine from Homebase and was surprised by the quality. Much lower price point than BH. I've never seen BH in the flesh so can't comment on the difference.

7Worfs · 03/11/2023 22:49

I got a Balsam Hill one as well - 7ft, bought four years ago and still in top condition. Go to their website and browse - see what kind of tree catches your eye.

lightelmqueen · 03/11/2023 22:55

I got a lovely tree from whitestores last year. It looks extremely realistic and wasn't too expensive

Housebuyer22 · 04/11/2023 07:13

BH have upto 40% off at moment.

My husband loves a real tree, I hate the mess!

So keep trying to convince him to buy a great quality artificial one!

This one - keep an eye out for offers....you need to be a costco member but ask around and you will find people who are.

I think membership of costco online is £15 https://www.costco.co.uk/membership

John Lewis have some very realistic trees
plus you can go and see them for about 250
I got mine last January for £40 from £379
it’s an amazing beautiful tree. You could get a real Christmas tree this year and then go to John Lewis to check out their Christmas sale after Christmas.

Stressedoutmammy · 04/11/2023 08:17

Following this as I am in exact same position, and we’ve recently renovated and will be using back room for Christmas so I want two this year but not got the spare cash. Anyone got the Canadian blue from BH?

please let me know what you go for OP.

Cyclistmumgrandma · 04/11/2023 08:49

Second the idea of looking just after Christmas in sales. Our artificial tree looks very real, the sort that are eye wateringly experience normally. We bought it as an ex display with no box for peanuts 35 years ago. It's still going strong.
