Well driving home today and a house had its Christmas tree up all decorated and lights on in the front bay window!! It’s only the 30th October the clocks only went back yesterday, I mean it’s Halloween tomorrow , bonfire night at the weekend. Is it only me that think why?

And why not. This dreary world needs some pretty lights and baubles. Good for them.

ruby1234 · 31/10/2023 08:54

We put our tree and decorations up in March one year.
My DS was serving in Afghanistan and had been away for Christmas so we did it all again in March when he came home.
Best Christmas Day ever - and it snowed!

I'd be tempted to knock on and ask what the fuck are they playing at.

well I thought this was funny : love a little irony here on amazing Mumsnet

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 31/10/2023 11:01

Although I think it’s a bit bonkers, and our tree doesn’t usually go up until about mid December, I can’t get worked up about it. Unless it’s e.g. in September, I like seeing other people’s cheerful lights and decorations, especially on dismal grey days and dark evenings.

AnOldCynic · 31/10/2023 11:23

Thanks @ThelmaBorden! I couldn't even be arsed responding to those taking offence.

Beckafett · 31/10/2023 14:50

My girls always want ours up in November as they love Xmas. My dad their grandad has recently passed away so after his funeral it's going up.
Can't see how that or even putting it up in September will or should offend anyone and if it does I suggest you get a hobby.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 31/10/2023 14:55

Maybe they do a Halloween tree. I've seen quite a few of these in restaurants.

I don't see the harm, personally. I would put mine up early if it wouldn't be so in the way.

EasternStandard · 31/10/2023 14:58

You also win first tree of the year thread, it’s inevitable : )

Dianalouise · 31/10/2023 15:03

One of the neighbours in the block of flats next door has had their tree up all year…it’s clearly visible from the front street. They look like students so I suspect it’s just a bit of laziness or clinging to childhood but it always gives my kids a good giggle (and then the inevitable begging for us to put our tree up!)

stargirl1701 · 31/10/2023 15:08

It's awful. I think before Remembrance Day is just awful.

We are Christmas Eve here!

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 31/10/2023 15:11

Outside stuff like lights go out early here, although many don’t actually get switched on. When it’s likely to be minus stupid at Christmas, no-one is messing around with fiddly shit with bare hands.

Quite a few people here have strip lights on their guttering, which can be colour changed according to the time of year/holiday/whatever takes your fancy.

SpicedAppleAndFreshCider · 31/10/2023 15:12

Are you sure it wasn't a Halloween tree? I've seen these online and even know someone who has one.

jlpth · 31/10/2023 15:14

There is christmas decorating content on youtube (from this year!) so I think people do it

dudsville · 31/10/2023 15:16

It's not only you, but I think it's weird to get annoyed by other people who aren't you doing things they enjoy, and I know I'm not alone in this position either. A lot of things that other people do are not things I would enjoy.

BitofaStramash · 31/10/2023 15:19

It's too early

But then again they might have reasons.

There are worse things happening in the world.

justalittlesnoel · 31/10/2023 15:21

I've got four trees up already 😂 I love Christmas and dislike Halloween! It takes so long to decorate the house, I like to get started early 😬

JaneJeffer · 31/10/2023 15:33

You have no idea what is going on in someone else’s life or the reasons why they have their tree up so early

And that's why you have to ask what the fuck they're playing at

rockinginarockingchair · 31/10/2023 15:50

I dont do any of the holidays to much faff but thats me.
Its up to others what they want to do no one knows whats going on in their lifes.
Or maybe they just love xmas and want to start now.
Some call me sad or the grinch but like others i enjoy my life without xmas being a part of it or any of the other holidays just another day to me.
I dont go around judging people but im sure you would judge me.

Mrsfussypants1 · 31/10/2023 18:06

Not spotted a tree yet, it's a wee bit early for me. I do enjoy spotting them though, what I notice more is the ones that I spot that are down Boxing day, each to their own I suppose. I have however watched my first Christmas ad of 2023 (Argos).

Hibernatalie · 31/10/2023 19:59

They're not hurting anyone.

Bobsledgirl · 01/11/2023 00:01

Someone said there is no Xmas tree law…….there not but there definitely should be imho!

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 01/11/2023 00:21

I usually initially think it's a bit bonkers, but then think they maybe have a really good reason. Someone who might not make it to Christmas so they've decided to celebrate early, or someone in the armed forces (or similar job that will take them away for the festive season) so they want to do something as a family before the person goes. Or maybe they just want cheering up. It doesn't matter really.

Jewelspun · 01/11/2023 00:31

Maybe someone in the house has a life limiting illness so they are celebrating early.

Screamingabdabz · 01/11/2023 00:51

Of course it doesn’t hurt anyone but it’s still bonkers to decorate for a celebration that’s 2 months away! It’s good to keep things seasonal and relevant for the time of year. We’ve not even had bonfire or remembrance yet.

MabelQ · 01/11/2023 00:53

I promise whoever lives there has an excellent reason!

Ours is going up tomorrow, Lord willing; our sons enjoy it so much and our December is often so full of appointments and obligations that I don’t feel I get to enjoy it once the whirlwind hits.

But this year I have added motivation - I’m heavily pregnant, due just a couple days into February, and slowing down more and more every day now with chronic hip/pelvic pain. I’d like to have the fun of decorating the house for Christmas before I’m flat on the couch, and will want it down if possible the day after Christmas so we feel more ready for baby to arrive.

So that’s why you’ll hopefully be able to see ours in the window this week! It just makes sense for our family. And it’s snowing tonight anyways, so…!
