What's your go to Boxing Day breakfast?

We're hosting this Christmas and I have 9 people in total (7 adults, 2 kids, one adult is Gluten-Free) I'm cooking for.

Looking for inspiration for Boxing Day breakfasts - what do you usually do?

Shamelessly hoping I can steal an idea or two.
Currently thinking something simple like scrambled eggs, bacon and toast.
Is it too 'every day'? I'm probably overthinking this way too much - first time I'm hosting this many people and they all arrive on the day we come back from holiday (I'm an idiot - I know Smile)

Traditionally in our house it’s leftover trifle 😳.

When we have a houseful I always stick to the same method - large sourdough loaf, lots of crispy bacon and pots of tea and coffee.

Waitrose do a gluten free sourdough that DF seems to enjoy.

Toast

Bubble and squeak with a fried egg 🤤

DH does a big fry-up late morning/brunch time, including bubble and squeak patties. Then it's buffet for dinner and Christmas cake... almost prefer it to Christmas Day. Almost 😊

Bacon and cheese turnovers

sheets of puff pastry (gluten free option available) cut into squares
Bacon goes in each one diagonally - use streaky as it cooks the same time as the pastry - and cheese on the top
fold the 2 sides in to meet and brush milk over outside to help stick
small sprinkle of cheese on top and into the oven for 20 minutes
Can be made a couple of days in advance
Alternatively - buy the ones ready made from the frozen aisle at Aldi!
We serve them with additional options of coffee, fruit juice, yoghurt croissants and jam

Hear me out....

Turkey stuffing and mayo in a toasted sandwich and a cup of tea 😍

CrapBucket · 20/11/2023 22:05

Trifle of course. All the other replies are clearly from monsters who want to ruin your Boxing Day.

Pigs in blankets sandwiches, or bacon sandwiches at a push. The leftover butties are for later 🤤

I went to the in-laws a few years ago and the fruit breakfast was so sad 😞 Some croissants or pastries alongside would have been lovely. I always offer to cook/bake/prepare the boxing day breakfast so I try to ensure there's enough choice.

We usually have visitors on boxing day. I shall disappoint: muesli, Yoghurt, honey, apples and satsumas if wanted, toast and marmalade.

In the kitchen, I quietly and secretly have white toast with turkey jelly and dripping. It is divine. Only me and my late grandma have ever agreed about this. Everyone else is wrong.

I asked similar but for Christmas morning here - there might be some ideas for you - strata for example.

ChicagoBears · 20/11/2023 23:19

We do a little help yourself situation:

  • homemade granola
  • flavoured luxury yogurts
  • fruit compote
  • croissants / Pain au chocolat
  • fresh fruit salad
  • cereal
  • good coffee and a selection of good quality juices
  • honey/jam/ Nutella

We tend to serve fillet for lunch so we keep it relatively light for breakfast.

If I was hosting and wanted an easy life -
Toast
Large omelette cut into wedges

Fruit, Jam, Cheese on the table

Summertimesunshineandfizz · 20/11/2023 23:43

Toasted panettone with homemade mandarin marmalade (and trifle, of course)

imnotalpharius · 21/11/2023 08:06

@RosesAndHellebores turkey dripping toast is our boxing day breakfast! Absolutely divine and I will never be told otherwise 😂
