What's your go to Boxing Day breakfast?

We're hosting this Christmas and I have 9 people in total (7 adults, 2 kids, one adult is Gluten-Free) I'm cooking for.

Looking for inspiration for Boxing Day breakfasts - what do you usually do?

Shamelessly hoping I can steal an idea or two.
Currently thinking something simple like scrambled eggs, bacon and toast.
Is it too 'every day'? I'm probably overthinking this way too much - first time I'm hosting this many people and they all arrive on the day we come back from holiday (I'm an idiot - I know Smile)

If we have guests we have scrambled eggs/ bacon / sausage with toast with Fruit juice late morning. A nice walk if dry and then Boxing Day tea.

StarsOnAMat · 08/10/2023 15:15

Selection box.

GettingStuffed · 08/10/2023 15:25

We normally have stollen.

SageRosemary · 08/10/2023 15:32

A slice of Christmas pudding gently fried in butter!

Or, if there's no pudding left over, then my usual muesli (Flavahan's Hi-8)

Marblessolveeverything · 08/10/2023 15:33

We go with a mixed brunch.

Eggs and some of the Xmas ham, roasted tomatoes, potato bread, fried Portobello mushrooms etc. Pop some frozen pastries in oven serve with homemade fruit compote.

Usually keeps everyone going until late when we make the Xmas ultimate toasties for supper... I may have forgotten the 74 million nibbles that seem to appear.

RicherThanYews · 08/10/2023 15:34

Gateaux and Doritoes.

Edited. Just read your OP again, please don't follow my advice and feed 9 people junk food as a special breakfast 😂😂 Eggs Benedict or kedgeree could go over well.

Pancakes/croissants/fruit
or
Bagels/Blinis with cream cheese/salmon/salmon mousse.

maddiemookins16mum · 08/10/2023 15:44

I always do Bubble, bacon and poached eggs. We have it as a brunch usually.

Trifle.

Snap, same here. A massive bowl of the Christmas Day sherry trifle.

lassiedog · 08/10/2023 15:59

We usually do bagels, cream cheese, smoked salmon and scrambled egg and it's done buffet style - grab what you want.

Moonlight222 · 08/10/2023 16:00

Pasties, biscuits, Christmas cake or whatever we all fancy

Favouritefruits · 08/10/2023 17:12

The rest of the panettone left from the day before. I’m too tired on Boxing Day!

cocksstrideintheevening · 08/10/2023 17:17

Bubble and squeak. My favourite meal of Christmas.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/10/2023 17:39

Cold sliced gammon, tomatoes, fried eggs if anybody wants them, cereal, toast, leftover Christmas dried fruit compote (Delia).

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 08/10/2023 17:44

Leftover Xmas pud, mince pies and coffee but I’m not hosting people or they’d think I had disordered eating.

YuliaJollyberry · 09/10/2023 04:04

We host Christmas Day and a lot of people stay over so it’s a bit chaotic Boxing Day morning. As everyone is getting up at different times it’s self service.

I plug the toasters in on the buffet sideboard in the dining room and put out a toastie loaf, wholemeal seeded loaf and a gf tiger loaf, butter, vg spread, fancier than usual jars - marmalade, a curd, a jam or two, chocolate hazelnut spread and peanut butter. For those that don’t like toast I put out the remains of the Christmas Day (tinned) fruit salad, Greek and coconut yoghurts and the jar of homemade oats/muesli. It seems to cover all dietary needs and preferences. For hobbit breakfast there is usually a cake and assorted leftover muffins.
We go through a lot of juice so there’s cartons of orange, pineapple, apple, cranberry, tomato juice (plus the makings for bl**dy Mary’s), cafetière coffee, pot of breakfast tea and herbal teas.

TammyJones · 09/10/2023 04:39

Bubble and Squeak Grin

windysocks · 09/10/2023 04:56

Sherry trifle

DinnaeFashYersel · 09/10/2023 04:59

Square sausage in a roll

itsgettingweird · 09/10/2023 05:02

Yes to fruit, yoghurts, pastries etc.

I'm always full after Xmas day and want to pick

McIntire · 09/10/2023 05:03

If I was staying I would like a self service type breakfast rather than a set time and menu.

Someone to make me coffee would be nice

Bumblebeesince19 · 09/10/2023 06:16

I am hosting the same! GF MIL too! :)
On boxing day we usually just have cereal- it sounds so boring but the kids are just too excited to play with their toys, and the adults are still tired from being woken up by me the kids so early on Christmas day..
We utilise leftovers for a fat boxing day pie for later on- thats where the magic happens :)
Ooo im excited thinking about it!

Snugglemonkey · 09/10/2023 09:40

I do fruit salad, yoghurt, jams and croissants, scrambled eggs, bacon and mushrooms. There is also cereal and toast if people like but no-one ever chooses that.

UnconventionalLife · 10/10/2023 05:36

We usually only host immediate family & we have a tradition of sandwiches - fresh white bread, real butter, turkey, stuffing & Cranberry sauce for me. Cut into triangles & accompanied by fresh coffee, fresh orange juice & a bowl of sherry trifle. Served to me in bed by dh.
I eat it reading new books & it's bliss.
I do 99% of the planning & cooking for Christmas day & he has looked after this breakfast for 20 years now!
It's my favourite sandwich of the year & I think I might even prefer it to Christmas day dinner!
Anyone else in the house is welcome to have the same & that's usually what we all end up having.

There's always eggs, bacon, croissants, bagels, smoked salmon, glazed cooked ham, cheeses, chutneys, pickles, jams, honey, honey, cake, pudding, brandy cream, baileys cream, fruit, sherry trifle & chocolates of many sorts knocking around so people can have whatever they fancy. There's proper coffee, different teas, hotel chocolat hot chocolate selection for velvetizer etc

ThreeRingCircus · 10/10/2023 07:53

What we actually have is pigs in blankets in a sandwich or a baguette with brown sauce.

What I would serve to guests is fruit, yoghurt and pastries with fresh juice and tea or coffee.
