Am I a miserable old bugger cus I bloody hate Christmas and everything about it . It's such a farce and anti climax I really don't know what people find to get excited over . The only time I enjoyed it was when my DD was a child and believed in Santa that was magical . Please tell me I'm not the only miserable bugger x

I enjoy it but reading these replies I’m worried that’s only because I have a small child.

@Lost123454 you've summed it up for me. It's rammed down our throats, you feel you have to conform, the enforced jollity and happiness and excitement.

I'd love to just go away somewhere warm and ignore it but we can't afford to go on a summer and Christmas holiday.

Thank goodness it's over. If it was every 4 years like the Olympics it wouldn't be so bad.

Me and DH would go away if he could get the holidays ... I don't blame anyone doing this it must be lovely

We’ve had visitors staying for 9 days and I feel like an unpaid employee in a hotel. Haven’t worked so hard in ages 😂 They are my DC and partners but bloody hell I’ll be glad to do minimal cooking and the odd TV dinner after all this.

My ex asked me for a divorce on Christmas Eve and always tries to start an argument around Christmas time, so Christmas has been a bit tainted for the past few years. This year I got a new job and the first thing I was asked to do was arrange the Christmas party. It helped bring back some Christmas cheer but I'm glad it's over. Tree is gone and my room is back to normal.

I always enjoy the build up but find the actual day itself a bit of an anti climax.

I was brought up not celebrating it . I felt very deprived and couldn’t wait to have my own family so I could ‘enjoy’ Xmas. I loved it for years but now I hate it. I find it immensely stressful and exhausting. I start dreading it in September. I’ve stopped sending cards and get the decs down as soon as I can. If I didn’t have to do it for family I wouldn’t bother with it at all. It’s an over hyped, commercialised nonsense.

Exactly how I feel. Everyone else apparently deserves a rest. Never mind me.

I can't say I hate it these days because I cut all this nonsense out. I tell people not to buy me presents, and only send cards/presents to people if I feel like it. If I want to get together with people I will.

There is too much obligation and 'proof' involved. If people could just chill out about it not feel obliged and only do things because it makes them happy to I think we'd see a lot more actual 'xmas spirit'

Yes - in-laws taken back home today and I’ve comprehensively de-christmassed the house. Tree standing behind the garage waiting for DH to take it to the recycling tomorrow. Feel unreasonably pleased by the whole thing!

VeronicaFranklin · 28/12/2022 23:53

I love Christmas but I'm glad it's over, I think it just starts far too early these days in the shops (from august onwards!) and people start putting their decs up in early Nov so by the time it gets to Boxing Day I want it all over and done with.

Just switched my tree lights on. This is the best bit with no expectations. I’m in education so I’m home and can wake up at leisure, go for nice dog walks, eat Christmas leftovers and chops, watch films and read.
