Am I a miserable old bugger cus I bloody hate Christmas and everything about it . It's such a farce and anti climax I really don't know what people find to get excited over . The only time I enjoyed it was when my DD was a child and believed in Santa that was magical . Please tell me I'm not the only miserable bugger x

When it comes down to it, Christmas is a lot of fuss and build up over what is essentially a roast dinner.

I don’t hate it (although I did for a number of years after my son became estranged). I don’t like it much though and I’m glad it’s over. I just want things to get back to normal, but that takes two weeks doesn’t it? I love spring and summer. Happily, some if my spring bulbs are already poking through the soil 🙂

Mine too !! The daffodils poked through overnight, couldn't believe it.

GoodnightJude1 · 26/12/2022 21:47

I’m with you OP. I’ve not enjoyed Christmas since I was about 10. The logistics of separated parents and ‘blended families’.
The endless present buying for people that aren’t grateful.
The hours of cooking and food prep while everyone else sits watching tele and stuffing chocolates.
The decorations taking up space and being attacked by the puppy.
The travelling about for hours to visits aunts and uncles that you rarely speak to the rest of the year…

It’s the greed that annoys me the most. Certain ‘entitled’ children demanding what they want. People eating till they can’t move. The grabby nature of some people in shops making sure they get the last 27 pots of double cream. Urgh.

cushioncovers · 26/12/2022 21:48

I never even put decs up. Had a lovely day with family yesterday but glad it's all over now. Just got the credit card to deal with in January. I hate how commercial it has become.

Amboseli · 26/12/2022 21:50

I'm with you. So much build up and an anti climax on the day. Very different when the kids were young, not with older teenagers.

The Christmas meal is always awful, stereotypical overcooked veg, dry turkey, served cold. The only positive is seeing relatives who I don't see very often.

Spellegrin · 26/12/2022 21:51

We gave up xmas about 20 years ago. Go off on holiday often. No forced present buying or jollyment. No cards. Still find it a boring time of year cos so much is closed over xmas but so glad not to be involved in the circus.

anythinginapinch · 26/12/2022 22:00

I love today. We're as far away from next Christmas as we can be ...

Loathe the consumerism. Loathe the greed.

Quite like small babies and new ones being born, so that bit is ok although not many people mention it. (Am an atheist)

Quite like the pagan bit.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 26/12/2022 22:04

I quite like the lawless, lazy days between Christmas and New Year. I don't even mind Christmas Day itself. I can't stand the whole build up that seems to last for weeks beforehand, more traffic, busy shops, school performances, work parties etc.

Yarrawonga · 26/12/2022 22:09

It’s only just started for us. My favourite time of year. It always has been.

Crimbo limbo.

Benjispruce4 · 26/12/2022 22:19

I like Christmas from mid December. We hosted yesterday so today was about relaxing, went on a dog walk this morning then to an outdoor light trail, ate leftovers and now just drinking tea before bed. So glad the shortest day is now behind us. Today was a glorious sunny day for me .

Lost123454 · 26/12/2022 22:20

I don't like Christmas, never have, never will

The main thing I don't like about it is that it's rammed down our throats from around August and it's all just so commercial. By the time it arrives I'm so sick of it

Just like Mother's Day, Father's Day, Easter, Valentine's Day. It's all about getting people to spend money

Come Jan 2nd you'll see Easter Eggs in the shops

katepilar · 26/12/2022 22:21

Oh, I hate it too. Its making me miserable.

Changingplace · 26/12/2022 22:25

The older I get the less I can be bothered with it all.

If I want a thing, I’d rather just buy it myself than tell DH and him buy (probably the slightly wrong version)it.

My in laws go overboard, I sound ungrateful but I just don’t want/need the ‘stuff’ - having a nice meal together would be fun if we could drop all the excess giving, it just stresses me out.

ShadowoftheFall · 26/12/2022 22:26

Hate the commercialisation, the enforced jollity and plastic tat. Love the caring peace and goodwill part, volunteering, donating to charity, thinking about others part. But I loathe, loathe, LOATHE bloody Hogmanay/ New Year with every fibre of my being - on a cellular level.

mincepiesandsomemorr · 26/12/2022 22:27

Can't wait to get back to normality!! I don't even do anything but it just feels stressful. The whole gift buying etc just feels superficial and competitive. It doesn't have to be like this but sadly it is.
Bring on spring!!!

ImAvingOops · 26/12/2022 22:49

I used to love it, when the kids were small and it was about creating magic for them. But the soul has gone out of it now. I still feel enormous pressure to have a good time and be happy though, so I never feel relaxed, just in a permanent state of stress and anxiety and restlessness! Some of this might be peri menopause related though.

I still love the decorations - my pretty tree and fairy lights bring me joy. I have pared down Christmas as much as possible but still managed to spend £££. It just feels like a lot of hard work for not much joy. And weirdly I feel quite melancholy on the day itself.

Boxing Day is my favourite day of the year as it means the Christmas chaos is over and I can start to look forward to lighter evenings .

This!

Richmond212 · 26/12/2022 22:56

I was really looking forward to it this year then I got sick and tested positive for covid Christmas morning. Totally ruined it for me and everyone in the house. I just want my tree and deckies down now and for it to all piss off

Greensleevevssnotnose · 26/12/2022 23:00

Entirely up to you. But there's another bank holiday yet and then New Year so another week yet.

jtaeapa · 26/12/2022 23:23

Christmas has become a crazy beast. YANBU.

maddog1996 · 27/12/2022 09:29

Thank god I'm not alone . I also hate the Braggy Insta and Facebook pics of mountains of presents and the designer shopping bags strategically placed in full view . Why do folk think designer brands make them special 🤷🏽‍♀️. I have a friend who even posted a pic of a pack of vitamins they had been gifted under the tree WTAF

I also hate it. Haven’t really enjoyed it since my son was little. All the greed and consumerism is way over the top . Xmas now starts in October which is also awful . Love the time off work but that’s it for me .

creamwitheverything · 27/12/2022 11:43

I slept properly for the first time in months last night, I feel so much better today (27th) The madness has been done with ,the planning.the stress and I feel calm and relaxed. I had a brill day at home yesterday with nowhere to go ,nowhere to be and nothing to do and I enjoyed it so much. I did my very best for everyone on christmas day and they all loved there gifts and lunch etc but today its been quiet and chilled ,really a top day. Ready for spring and so glad its all done.

Amboseli · 27/12/2022 14:26

@Lost123454 you've summed it up for me. It's rammed down our throats, you feel you have to conform, the enforced jollity and happiness and excitement.

I'd love to just go away somewhere warm and ignore it but we can't afford to go on a summer and Christmas holiday.

Thank goodness it's over. If it was every 4 years like the Olympics it wouldn't be so bad.
