Not turned up for dinner

refuge123 · 25/12/2022 20:51

I recently came to a womans shelter then got moved into temp. The workers asked me if I want to go to a christmas dinner tonight I agreed and they said that theyd collect me. Theyre uncontactable, no ones phoned/texted and its now Its now 10 to 9. Ive got no other plans. Is it fair to assume ive been forgotten about? ☹

Are you sure they didn’t come and you didn’t hear them? Do you have a buzzer?

IScreamAtMichaelangelos · 25/12/2022 22:20

I'm sorry OP, that sucks :(

Azulocean · 25/12/2022 22:25

I’m thinking someone’s gotten Ill. There’s so much going around at the moment, they just fell ill and with the chaos of trying to cover it’s a mixup. Sorry it’s happened. I’ve just found #joinin on Twitter, so many people alone today x

refuge123 · 25/12/2022 22:27

To be honest the hot water doesnt work and neither does the heating. Emergency numbers arent going to come out because its christmas. Its been the worst one ever.

No chance of that as ive got a buzzer and they could have rang/texted/knocked

Do you think they would honestly invite you and deliberately or maliciously not turn up?

Really?

I'd guess miscommunication or something has happened.

Twinlife2 · 25/12/2022 22:33

Oh no OP, real feel for you. So sorry this has happened on today on all days.
Sending you virtual hugs and hope for brighter days ahead x

userxx · 25/12/2022 22:33

That's really shit.

RegularNameChangerVersion21 · 25/12/2022 22:36

I'm so sorry OP. That's genuinely shit. Have you got anything remotely nice you could do for yourself today? Like a hot chocolate to make, packet of biscuits? Favourite film to watch? Did you want to have a chat on here? We're listening if you do.

C'mon, the op's been in a refuge which tells me she's been through a whole heap of mind fuckery. It's pretty easy to think the worlds against you whilst walking in those shoes.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 25/12/2022 22:38

Next year will be better x

OldFan · 25/12/2022 22:39

If you ever don't hear from services when you're expecting them then give them a ring @refuge123 .

Also contact repairs or someone about the heating/water. Even in the holidays the council/landlord have a duty to make sure you have those and there are emergency repairmen on hand.

Are you certain it's tonight? It's just it would be an unusual arrangement, to go for dinner with colleagues on Christmas Day.

No, it wouldn’t in this line of work.

The OP was in a refuge, which will be staffed 24/7 and the staff working do make Christmas dinner or book a restaurant for the service users on Christmas Day/evening.

It sounds like the OP recently moved out of the staffed service into temp accommodation but was invited to go back for Christmas dinner.

Findyourneutralspace · 25/12/2022 22:45

So sorry to hear this. You must feel very deflated but do try and keep moving forward. You’ve come so far already.
As my amazing son likes to tell me when times are tough, ‘next week we’ll be millionaires’.
Im sure it’s a mix up. I hope you have a better day tomorrow.

Fair enough, just trying to think of a logical reason.

Have you tried to contact them? Are you able to?

momager1 · 25/12/2022 23:12

OP I am so sorry. I own a restaurant and every year we do NOT HOME ALONE for seniors in our small city. before covid we had them in the restaurant..but now we deliver free turkey dinners with all the trimmings... apple pie.. dinner rolls and butter. LAST YEAR we missed one. I was horrified. made up names...but the real names were so similar that we counted them as one.. they even lived on the same road. so ...picture..oh have you got john blacks ready?... white road.. I look down...yup...why is he here twice and struck the other one off. I drove the next day with a meal for him and also a bunch of freezer meals . this year I phoned EVERY person this morning to make sure we would not screw up again...now almost 6 pm here in canada and 30 seniors that live alone have dinner

Maybe something happened (no executor not contacting you though, I HATE when people do that).
Sorry Flowers

I thought you were assuming they’d died!

allboysherebutme · 25/12/2022 23:15

Can you not make your own way there. X

Squeakybits · 25/12/2022 23:20

Get a taxi/call duty/call one of the others

Squeakybits · 25/12/2022 23:20

Bit too late now if it was tonight!

NewBootsAndRanty · 25/12/2022 23:21

I think Xmas dinner is likely to be over by 11pm @allboysherebutme

It's right there in the OP that they're uncontactable.

This is so lovely. And yes you must have felt dreadful to miss someone.
op im so sorry for you. I made enough food and was tempted to ask neighbours if anyone was alone and wanted a meal but then felt like it could be very awkward so didn’t. I’d love to share though.
they’ve missed you off their list op. That’s very hurtful but I hope you make something nice out of the day / night.

Spookysparkles · 25/12/2022 23:29

I’m so sorry, that sucks.💗
onwards and upwards- I would order a takeaway and watch whatever you want to on the telly. Next Xmas will be better, make 2023 your year ✨
