Eh? How does wrapping it in bacon make the juices poisonous?

Kind of wondering that myself ..

I will book train travel for the work Christmas do the moment they announce the date, so that I can get First Class.

I will try to avoid organising 'joint' gifts as I find it awkward then asking for the money. Unavoidable really though if everyone is to get a gift. Bah.

I'm ditching the turkey next year. It costs a fortune and I don't think the meat is all that special. In fact bog standard chicken is nicer. I'm thinking of a lovely rib of beef next year

Benjispruce4 · 27/12/2022 15:04

My turkey cost £16 from Lidl. Had beaten more expensive birds in a blind taste test. Fed 6 for dinner plus a BD buffet plus turkey sandwiches today, plus a turkey soup. I’d say good value.

MerryChristmasToYou · 27/12/2022 15:07

Is that all you got from it @Benjispruce4 , we had an organic free-range quail from Mortnum & Fason and it fed 12 on Christmas Day, and we had leftovers for 8 on Boxing Day. The rest is going in a risotto for 4 of us this evening. Wink

😂

I had bought a reduced turkey last year and it was fine but took up a lot of room in the freezer so won't do it this year

Next year will make sure my freezer is much emptier beforehand so I can prep and store as much as I can

100% do this. It made life so much easier to run the freezer down before Christmas as much as possible. It also was so much easier to use up batch cooked stuff in the freezer in the weeks before Christmas when there was loads of stuff on and we needed a quick dinner.

I have taken to buying a bunch of frozen party food before the end of November too, so having the space to fit this in, is great. Between Christmas and New Year is officially left overs and beige buffet season in our house. This means I can cook as little as possible. Having beige buffet and left overs on boxing day also clears the freezer for the 27th, which means there is magically space do take advantage of the supermarket reduced stickers (am I liking the supermarkets deciding to close on the 26th now).

First couple of weeks in January should be sorted now if I mix it up with veggie chilli.

Cheaper, easier and a lot less hassle. I'm one of the least organised people going, but I can do my Christmas organisation ok. I have a plan from August and it works well.

We will take dsd and family out for dinner instead of doing a whole entertaining day on the 27 th and stressing about having enough food etc so will go out for a lovely dinner somewhere local and not have the stress and we can all enjoy it.
We will repeat the theatre for everyone on 28th as we had a blast.

Quizzed · 02/01/2023 13:59

I won't be booking a Christmas day out so far in advance. I booked a lovely day out for me and ds but the trains went on strike so I couldn't get there and they wouldn't refund me.
I will be finding a job where I don't have to work over all of the christmas period and every weekend in December.

Stay at home by myself and have an enjoyable time.
