She's 10 so feel like she should be too old to be crazy excited but she woke up at 4.30 and can't go back to sleep 😩
she's on her tablet in bed and I've told her we can't wake DH until 6am. It's going to be a long day!!

Me and 8 month old ds are waiting for everyone else to get up, we've been up for an hour. I've had a shower and put my make up on but don't want to sneak back upstairs for clothes. DD16 will be hoping her 4 year brother has a bit of a lie in. He was up at 530 yesterday but is still sleeping at the minute. I think I'll get the potatoes peeled.

Cuwins · 25/12/2022 06:46

My 10m DD woke me at 6am which is unusually late for her but we were up for 2.5hrs in the night! We will wake my partner at 7 as he was also disturbed in the night and on top of that isn't well. But that's just to do stocking, tree presents will be opened later

SquigglePigs · 25/12/2022 06:58

I'm lying in bed waiting for my just turned 4 yr old to wake up! She's usually up by now so it's actually amusing me that of all days, today is the one she's still asleep on!

I'm pleased though because her Grandparents are here and want to get up when she does so they can share in her excitement and at least this means they aren't being woken up at stupid-o'clock!

Ladybug14 · 25/12/2022 07:14

Angry because a child is excited on Christmas day?

Give your head a few thousand wobbles

🥺

ChristmasSparkleTastic · 25/12/2022 07:23

I woke up then too. So tired and can't get back to sleep. Gave in and went downstairs to make tea. Now sitting in bed with the dog having a cuddle & a cuppa ☺️. Everyone else is sleeping after a big family meal last night. Kids amazingly still asleep. God I'm tired!
🙈🤶🏽🎄

LindaMo2 · 25/12/2022 07:32

When my children were 5 and 7 ‘Santa’ forgot to switch the burglar alarm off before creeping around with stockings 🤭. Woke everyone up at 2 am - including the neighbours 😵‍💫😵‍💫

At 10 she should 100% know better than to come in to you at 4.30, I'd be so angry with that.

She's 10, it's Christmas. Surely the waking time rules don't apply for Christmas Day! Or maybe I'm just a big kid too.

Totally agree with this, it's Christmas Day for Christ's sake.

Wow! Merry Christmas to you as well Xmas Hmm

hiredandsqueak · 25/12/2022 07:43

I'm up enjoying the peace, don't expect to see ds and dd for a good while yet. Mine have never done the early mornings where I get up and prepare the dinner and potter around until they do.

GrumpyPanda · 25/12/2022 07:43

Am I glad we do presents after dusk on Christmas eve 😂

liveforsummer · 25/12/2022 07:44

Dd is 10 on just over a month, she woke up at 1 for a pee (never gets up in the night for the toilet). I'd been asleep half an hour at this point. At 3 she woke her sister to open stockings with her and she's been pestering me since 5 to get up - I gave her an absolute earliest if 7 and she was through the second the minute hand hit the hour. Everything now open and was charging around being hyper so I've herded her in to the shower 🙈😴

MummyInTheNecropolis · 25/12/2022 07:45

My 17 year old was up at 5.30! We came down at 6.30 to open presents. I love the fact that she still wakes so early with excitement!

nothingleftttt · 25/12/2022 07:46

10yr old up at 1.45am this morning. Autistic and sleep difficulties anyway so we usually have a 2/4am wake every few weeks. Normal wake up is 5am
Once awake there is no going back to sleep. Luckily enough today they only woke me and not the whole household. Last yr they woke everyone as I was trying to shush them and say it's too early and they got very agitated

Deathraystare · 25/12/2022 07:50

As kids, we knew what time we were allowed up but at 5am we always opened our stockings. Mum used to lie awake listening to my brother and I telling each other what we had got!

Deathraystare · 25/12/2022 07:52

Forgot to say. Our other presents were opened at 11am and tree presents (anything smaller) was opened after the Queen's speech. Every year my Aunt (RIP) joined us and every year she pretended she just did not know what was happening!

nancydroo · 25/12/2022 08:05

4am here. They are going to be so bored in....right about now! 😆

AbsolutelyNebulous · 25/12/2022 08:12

My pair are STILL not up, I can’t believe it! They’re 13 and 11 so obviously don’t “believe” but they were very excitable last night and still whispering and giggling when I went to bed well after 1. That’s probably why they’ve slept in, meanwhile I woke at 5.30 🙄 I think I’ll give it another 20 minutes and then I’ll start making a lot of noise 😃.

With a 5yr old? No. With a 10yr old? Absofuckinglutely.

If you want to wake up batshit early that's fine, but I'm assuming you haven't woken your DH and DC. If you had, that'd be a dick move

Falalalalaaaaa la la la la

Isittrueornot · 25/12/2022 08:26

This is why one present always goes on the end of the bed! So they can open it and play with it when they wake up, giving parents an extra 30 minutes or so to sleep.

m I thought that was parent code and everyone did that!!

gogohmm · 25/12/2022 08:31

Top tip for parents of 6+'s next year if you want a lie in - sign them up to be chorister's. Mine were always so exhausted from singing midnight mass I dragged them out of bed at 10am for church! We did presents after lunch.

I miss those days now despite the driving on Christmas Eve ... all grown up and one is away at her boyfriends

Equimum · 25/12/2022 09:38

To whoever's 10 year was old ridiculously early, our eldest (nearly 10) came in at 3.30 to see if was morning yet. He normally sleeps until 7-7.30. He didn't get the warmest reception but certainly wasn't my told off. He was sent back to bed, but our 7 year old got up at 4.15 and they both came in. We agreed they could open their stocking then go back to bed, which they did. We eventually got up at 6.30.

@MolliciousIntent 🤣 No, of course I didn’t wake them when I woke up - but I’m an excited 32 year old and I have slightly more self control than an excited 10 year old 😂
I did wake DH the second our 2 year old woke up though 👍🏻

RedHelenB · 25/12/2022 20:25

My 16 year old was up at 4. Granted he didn't cone into my room until 6 though. It's Christmas, of course they're excited, it shows you do Christmas well.
