A lot frustrated posters here (me included) so thought I'd start a lighter Christmas thread for us all to think about what we can't wait for this Christmas (yes, including it just being over and done with Grin i'll go first.

It's my youngest and final child's first Christmas.
Having a small one this year with just us, BIL and SIL who are bringing half the stuff and staying the night.
Further in-laws coming on Boxing Day, then coming back on New Years eve possibly so us and BIL/SIL (who is my best friend) can go out child free!

What are you looking forward to this year?

A week off work.

DH works in a supermarket and his flipping lovely manager has given him a very early start on Christmas Eve so he’ll be home by 2:30 instead of 7pm. We’ll have home made hot sausage rolls and cheese straws and watch A Christmas Carol and Glass Onion (the new Knives Out film with Daniel Craig) with just the fairy lights on. We might even make it to midnight mass, which is something I’ve been meaning to do for years.

We’re spending Christmas Day with my DB, SiL & baby nephew, which I’m so excited about, especially because we’ve got him some of the toys he always makes a bee line for at his baby group, so I can’t wait to see him smile. I know they won’t have bought each other anything because of finances, so we’ve bought them things they’ll love and wrapped them up from our DN, and we’re close enough for them not to feel awkward about it. I love turkey, and cold meats, pickles and bubble & squeak on Boxing Day is my favourite meal of the year. There’s a big box of Ferrero Rocher with my name on (nobody else likes them). I’ve got a pile of new books to start and there’s a big pile of presents for me under the tree from DH, who is very good at present buying.

@CoQ10 I'm Se Water too, I hadn't heard there were problems, I'd heard about Southerns lack of water. Are you Ok? I'm in a GU postcode, if you're anywhere near you're welcome to come and use the bathroom!

That's so kind of you. What a lovely message. We are TN2 postcode. it's been awful. Bur my parents live 20 mins away in Sussex and so we can shower at theirs.

The CEO of South Eastern Water has said it will be brought back on today but my neighbours and I are all v sceptical.

Sorry to put a downer on this thread. Usually I'd be looking forward to my children's faces when they come into my room in the morning of Xmas day. Christmas is all about the children, isn't it 🩷🩷

Going to Anglesey on Boxing Day to stay in a cottage by the sea. Just me, DH and two dogs.

Some Live NBA basketball, with a glass of Baileys and slice of Christmas Cake 😊🥂🏀

No routine.
Peace (or as much as you can get with 2 kids and animals).
Eating.
Relaxing.
Reading.
Time to just be, I suppose!

@CoQ10 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼You get it back on today 🤞🏼🤞🏼We really do take it for granted!!

at least your parents aren't too far away, but it's an absolute pain in the bum having to go somewhere to shower!

I hope it all gets sorted today & you enjoy Christmas 🎅🏼

Watching DD open her presents. She’s twenty now but I still love this part of Christmas. She has fewer gifts now but I still like seeing her with her gifts.
We may sit and watch Raymond Briggs Father Christmas together on Christmas Eve as we have done in years past.

Cooking the festive meal on Xmas day for 12 and knowing that this year I won't have to clear up or deal with leftovers as me an DH are flying off to Dubai on Boxing Day just the two of us leaving the three "kids" at home until the 29th when as their main present they are flying out to meet us and we will then all stay at Atlantis for New Year.

LanternGhost · 23/12/2022 18:26

I'm just feeling so festive this year, historically I've been a bit of a grinch but I have a child now and this is the first year she kind of knows what's going on. We're hosting both sides of our families for several days, I've got special menus planned for Xmas eve, Xmas brunch and Xmas dinner. Tomorrow we're making cookies and doing a craft and I'll prep for breakfast and dinner so I don't have to cook much on the day of. I'm really excited to give my daughter her presents and actually I spent a lot of time picking presents for everyone and I think they're all winners. We've also got snow right now which is unexpected, I'm thinking about suggesting a family snowball fight.... best wishes to all of you, I hope you have large and small moments of joy, peace and chaos, delicious food and that special Christmas feeling.
