I'm so deflated, purchased husbands Christmas present and it was due to arrive tomorrow when he was out. Text from courier while I was out shopping to say it was about to be delivered today while he was in. Selected safe place but they bloody delivered to the front door and it's in a branded box with the contents plastered all over! So now he knows his big present, so frustrated. He lovessss Christmas and surprises so he's taken it well but I know is so gutted :(

Has this happened to anyone else this year? Make me feel better with your stories!

WE had similiar for DS last year with a huge lego from amazon which just came in the lego box with no box on the outside and he answered the door. Luckily the lovely delivery guy realised what had happened and got DS to go get DH who hid it.

and there's the Daily Mail headline. "Mumsnetter horrified at butt plug mishap"

Xmas Blush

Unless you are married to a 6 year old I'm sure he'll get over the disappointment of father Christmas not delivering it by magic in 4 days time. I could see your point if it'd spoiled a child's surprise, an adult, no.

WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps · 20/12/2022 17:11

@propacrimbo

I don't get WHY your DH is sooooo upset. Confused I can understand YOU being miffed. I would be too, but I don't get why HE is. So, he knows what his 'main' present is 5 days before Christmas. A bit irksome for you, but not the end of the world. It IS a bit annoying to have the branded name on the packaging and it's give it away, but it's a risk you take when purchasing anything online. Next time, pick a pick-up-point, so it doesn't go to your house!

Stop repeatedly posting this same question, clearly a lazy journalist

What kind if boring-ass journalism do you read? Why on earth would a journalist start a thread like this?

Cas112 · 20/12/2022 17:16

Yes it is annoying but I feel like it's a risk you know to take. Some retailers deliver parcels like this some don't. It's not something to get to worked up over

Fenella123 · 20/12/2022 17:18

It's frustrating OP but you can get him a little fun surprise still so that he has "a" surprise.
Don't let it get you too down! Life's too short really!

User478 · 20/12/2022 17:19

Take it out of the box, fill the box with socks and wrap whatever it is so it looks like something else.

Some outlets trawl sites like this for articles. Sometimes threads are started to generate ‘content’.

It might not be a journalist, it might be somone trying to fill a inch in the Daily Wail.

BelaBartok · 20/12/2022 17:20

Nice surprise for him to today then!

I can understand why you are a bit irritated by the branded packaging but the rest...absolutely can't relate to it at all 😁. Admittedly, I am one of those scrooge like people who think most present swaps are ridiculous and don't swap presents with my husband.

Notonyournellykelly · 20/12/2022 17:21

I've had this, with one of those god damned pizza ovens. Turned out, he didn't want it and he sent it back 🙄, so at least we didn't have that reaction on Christmas Day!

Adults are allowed to like surprises too!

Between most married couples, the money's either coming out of the same pot, or things get equalised some other way, and you probably spend similar amounts on each other — if surprises didn't matter, you could just make an agreement to each buy yourself something costing x amount, not bother wrapping it up in paper to hide what's inside, then swap and swap back on Christmas morning. Or have everyone buy what they want within agreed limits and spend Christmas morning swapping receipts and reimbursing each other.

I'm looking forward to Christmas. We're all going to give each other presents that are mostly surprises (there are sometimes things where the recipient really does need to have input, say a new coat or something, but people still go through the motions of wrapping it to hide the contents and saying how lovely the thing is when unwrapping it), even though there'll be nobody there under 35.

whatwasIgoingtosay · 20/12/2022 17:25

My DD, who is currently overseas, has been sending me a few Christmas gifts via Amazon, and I know not to open the packaging. But the box of Ferroro Rocher that arrived today was completely unpackaged - just the see-through plastic box with an address label stuck on it! I know we're all trying to cut down on wasteful wrapping, but this just felt downright uncaring. I won't tell her how it arrived and will pretend to have unwrapped it on Christmas Day.

I think it's the 'tell me YOUR stories' bit. Suggests it MAY be someone fishing for a story for a magazine (online one maybe.)

DailyMailReporterTellMeAllYourSecrets · 20/12/2022 17:25

Yup, to both of us but not our main presents. I’d bought DH a wand and it has noble collection all over it plus was wand box shaped. Then mine turned up and it said Shoe Zone so I knew it was slippers. We just laughed and exchanged gifts. Would have been gutted if it was his main gift though.

speakout · 20/12/2022 17:25

I really dislike when Amazon sends items with no packaging.
The boxes or packs have address labels and stickers that are impossible to remove.

Ostryga · 20/12/2022 17:28

I’ve bought Dd a Barbie dream house and it says in great big letters in the confirmation email that it comes showing what it is. My dad is taking her out for the day whilst it’s delivered tomorrow. I assume they got plenty of complaints and are covering their backs now.

It’s very frustrating when they don’t warn you.

Scotty12 · 20/12/2022 17:29

He’s an adult. This is no big deal at all. For a child who believes in Santa - that’s a real problem!

Dorisbonson · 20/12/2022 17:30

LovelyRachel · 20/12/2022 15:30

Beavertown did this to me

Sounds very embarrassing.

butterfliedtwo · 20/12/2022 17:31

He's an adult. He'll just be pleased.

ChristmasCwtch · 20/12/2022 17:31

One of DH’s presents arrived in a branded box emblazoned with the name of the item. Thankfully it was delivered during the one single 30 min window DH was out of the house this week 😆

Nikii83 · 20/12/2022 17:32

Amazon did this to me last year. Daughters. Barbie dreamhouse came in a marek barbie dreamhouse box. I was like the hulk chucking it up the stairs before she had come from the front room to see who was at the door.

ChristmasCwtch · 20/12/2022 17:32

@speakout heat the label with a hairdryer and it should peel off easily. So annoying when Amazon puts a sticker right in the middle the box 🤦🏼‍♀️

OooScotland · 20/12/2022 17:33

Its happened here twice this week. On the bright side the stuff got here in time (No children here so we exchange gifts on Christmas Eve after a fancy dinner)

I totally agree its annoying OP, but he’s an adult, he’ll cope!
