Present arrived in branded parcel :(

I'm so deflated, purchased husbands Christmas present and it was due to arrive tomorrow when he was out. Text from courier while I was out shopping to say it was about to be delivered today while he was in. Selected safe place but they bloody delivered to the front door and it's in a branded box with the contents plastered all over! So now he knows his big present, so frustrated. He lovessss Christmas and surprises so he's taken it well but I know is so gutted :(

Has this happened to anyone else this year? Make me feel better with your stories!

It is annoying parcels are left on the door step in plain view, you husband will cope though ,no big deal for an adult, I just pretend I haven't noticed if something obvious arrives for me.

propacrimbo · 20/12/2022 16:48

It wasn't Amazon and I've checked the website and confirmation email, absolutely no reference to branded packaging. I've summoned my inner complainer and emailed asking for their reasoning for branded packaging at this time of year. Lesson learned at least and though it's not happened to me before I won't be making this mistake again.

This happened to me last year... but it was a present I had bought for the family myself after many discussions about me really wanting it for months and DH not reaching a decision.

My plan was, it would have arrived whilst he was at work, I would have collected it from the Post Office, and then... ta-dah... a Christmas Day miracle! Everyone (DC & me) would be so pleased and DH would not be able to say anything.

Except his office asked everyone to work from home that day, so he intercepted the parcel. And the box was not only branded, but also had an image on the box.

Feckers.

Yea I've done the same and pretended - even pretended our proposal was a surprise so ever so slightly miffed he didn't just feign ignorance like I would've though that's probably unreasonable of me 😆

I got some Harry Potter socks as a stocking filler and they've arrived in a totally clear plastic bag 😂

I also had this! Bought some knock off oodies for the kids. They arrived in transparent packaging!

Stop repeatedly posting this same question, clearly a lazy journalist

Batshittery · 20/12/2022 16:52

How many threads do you intend asking this same question on?

I posted on chat and no one replied and then realised there was a Christmas topic. Are you ok? V paranoid.

Surely it's now just a double surprise.
A surprise as to what it was and a surprise that he got it on a random day :)

zurala · 20/12/2022 16:55

Amazon did this to me this year. I ordered a waffle maker for my daughter and it came with just an address label on the box, no actual postage packaging, just it's own box. Luckily she was upstairs when it came but the sticker won't come off so it looks rubbish.

Staniel · 20/12/2022 16:55

Mildly annoying. Not a biggie. He's an adult and will recover swiftly, as should you.

Hercisback · 20/12/2022 16:55

He's an adult... I can't believe people get worked up about this.

AriettyHomily · 20/12/2022 16:56

Amazon did this to me with a kids present, it was meta detector and arrived in the original packaging which has never happened with Amazon before.

WetBandits · 20/12/2022 16:56

Ah OP it could be worse. I bought a butt plug off Wish (more fool me) and it arrived with the contents emblazoned on the packaging 🥲🥲

Ocrumbs · 20/12/2022 16:58

I can't stand this. What's the point of choosing a safe space or asking for a certain day etc if they then deliver early/on the doorstep? If you were in a controlling relationship it might be vital to you that something is delivered when you can get to it without partner knowing.

Ineedtocleanmywoodenblinds · 20/12/2022 16:58

This happened in reverse for me a couple of years ago, a parcel turned up for me from DH with branding all over it. I took it to my neighbours and swore her to secrecy and DH picked it up none the wiser.

Moonpies · 20/12/2022 16:59

Isn't most packaging branded? Unfortunately delivery companies (especially due to RM strikes) are overstretched so it's almost lucky that you at least got your package... If you want to avoid anyone seeing the package, click & collect is the way to order.

I knew of a bloke who booked a special surprise weekend in a hotel for him & his wife's anniversary, told the hotel it was a big secret & only to speak to him, etc - & someone at the hotel called the wife to check some details. They weren't popular.

When I worked in a hotel I was told they never did that in case they spoke to the wrong "wife."

and there's the Daily Mail headline. "Mumsnetter horrified at butt plug mishap"

Greensleevevssnotnose · 20/12/2022 17:03

I would much rather there was no outer packaging mostly, but at Christmas time it could be a spoiler. My mum ordered presents from m and s and they came in cardboard boxes
, One said vodka pairing kit, this way up and the other said perishable so I am looking forward to our of date trifles ot a dead poinsettia, the vodka was for oh so I squirreled that away.

Daughters Disney Princess castle was delivered just in it own box, I’d selected for it to go to a collection point but it was delayed so they thought they were doing me a favour delivering it to my house 4 days later. Luckily she didn’t see it and I managed to put it in my car before she did.

I think the key Kerr would be collect from a local drop point like a shop or parcel locker.

Lotsofthings · 20/12/2022 17:08

On the positive side at least it’s here before Christmas.
